    1. To an extent,we must be wary.
However we have a mesorah that 3 strikes in klal & you're out.
A leading defender mentioned in recording has already 3(or more) strikes, yet plans on forging agead

    2. This is not baseball Cohen and you are not an Umpire either way.
I suggest you keep quiet about a Great Talmid Chacham who is the child and grandchild of Gedolim, lest you pay the price as per Rav Gershon's wanring

    3. Being the child and grandchild of gedolim doesn't give someone the right to play fast and loose with haalcha.

  2. Where is the discussion about Rav Wein zatzal? Besides being a wonderful historian, a phenomenal, captivating lecturer with over one thousand cd's, etc., and about 25 amazingly written books, he was first and foremost a Talmid Chochom of note who gave semichah hundreds (long, handwritten tests covering those parts of of YD, etc.) and a Rav for many years in many places (and head of the OU for 10 years). A great loss for the Jewish people.

    1. He's not yeshivish enough for the chareidim to allow themselves to recognize all that

      Delete
    2. Unfortunately, you're right; though people will have a hard time finding anything negative about such an impactful person, who was such a great asset to the Jewish people on so many fronts and was a great spokesman for frum yiddishkeit.

    3. Good man but don't get too carried away.An avid Chicago sports fan, zionist, among other things

      Delete
    4. His sentiments on Eretz Yisrael are based on a thorough knowledge of Tanach be-iyun, in which he was proficient as a young man already, and all Midrashei Chazal, which most yeshivahleit are ignorant in. And nothing wrong with knowing what's going on in sports. He did not "follow" sports at all, but used it to reach people. And he was eminently successful.

    5. You're an obssesed fan of his,& nu, that's ok.
      R'Chaim Epstein wasn't.

His weltenshuuang was broad but it wasn't incisive
btw when confronted with facts which conflicted with his predilections he would just bend or dismiss that fact.Perhaps that may apply to most of us,but he wasn't unbiased

      Delete
    6. Furthermore,
He would subtly [or less so] take sides among Disputes of the ages. Generally, though predictably enough, he would lean towards the wrong side

      Delete
    7. So he wasn't a fan. Rav Wein was great enough to argue with him. It makes no difference to me, or to most normal people, who appreciate the many gifts with which Rav Wein enriched general yiddishkeit.

    8. There is no such thing as an objective historian, but he came as close as possible.

    9. Anon at 10:58: "The wrong opinion" in the opinion of a few ignorant yeshivah guys who never left their cocoons. Maybe provide a few examples of his "wrong" opinions. I'll wait.

    11. 12:07,
Can't answer for your lack of background, but mine is likely way better in the field than yours.
Our connection to RBW goes back before you, before his tapes & before any claim to fame

      Delete
    12. Wrong. He wasn't a 'low brow" anything. He was a brilliant, intellectual Talmid Chacham, a mechaber sefarim, a great author, and orator, who had much to impart in many different areas even to contemporary "lamdanim atzumim" who know a few blatt and a few pesukim and who think R' Baruch Ber lived during the Crusades.

    13. 1:42. I knew Rabbi Wein for more than 50 years and read all his books, heard many of his outstanding lectures, and learned some of his his sefarim, which I doubt you did. I don't 'lack any background' with regard to R Wein. Unless your in your 70s, which doesn't seem so from the way you write, your not in the parashah and therefore shouldn't try to discredit others.

    14. 2:20 et al,
How cute.Since everything you presume is a reflection of your prior bare vacuous level, your enthusiasm comes across as natural.
      4:11
Nobody is 'discrediting' him.The original posts were so beyond, they demanded a healthy dose of cold water
To quote RBW: "wasn't writing for scholars.Couldn't if I tried"

      12:07
      Have several available offhand.
But they are way above your league to discuss with you and yours

    15. Since time immemorial, those who can't answer cogently or intellectually, people like yourself, resort to bitter, resentful and personal attacks that have nothing to do with the issue at hand. "They are above my league." You don't know a hundredth of what I've forgotten in learning 30 years ago, and are not worthy of being my disputant in any area. And you also need a beginners course in writing

Since you're soo blithely sure of yourself,go Let's have a joust.Be my guest. Make sure you prepare a nice mat to land on.
Also,It isn't proper in polite company to project either .There was nothing bitter in my previous posts.'twas all in good informative spirit

  3. What’s Rabbi Ribners agenda here with the Bais Havaad? I understand there are family ties with employees there, I have not found a single surporter of the the Bais Havaad who is some way did not gain from them. For instance a choshuva Talmud chochom in Lakewoods grand daughter got full custody of a child through the Bais havaad by the bais havaad believing a very dubious report on the husband. So yeh that grand father is very happy with them. And trying to help them, so sad

    2. You would be hard pressed to find any Talmid Chacham in America that didn't benefit from the BHV, because yes, they did and do incredible work for the good and for Harbatzas Torah.

      Delete
    3. Here is,behold, myself.
That is even though some of those running the BHV used to be friends of mine, though rather unimpressive
THE RCA;NCSY;OU;YU make virtually the same claim

  4. The contentions raised were valid & we must be wary

On the other hand we have a mesorah that in klal 3 strikes & you're out.
A leading protagonist has already had his share of strikes. Yet he plans on forging onward & upward unfortunately

    1. Can't have it both ways, he's either a malach or a galach. I'll stick with rav dovid finstein's ruling about him.

    2. Where did this mesorah come from? Isn't it a funny coincidence that your 'mesora' coincides with the rules of baseball? Weird how things end up.

But, in this case, nobody struck. A machlokes in halacha is not a 'strike'.

And the contentions raised by people who weren't interested in the answers are never 'valid'.

But if three strikes was the way to discard people and their opinions, you might want to check the mirror.

      Delete
    3. Absolutely right, we have no mesorah for three strikes, the gemera says you're out with just one.

      It so happens
12:49 you're rallying for your chief out of desperation

    6. To Anonymous September 10 10:38:
You are correct . The remarks
Rks about Rabbi Wein are not here. But if you go to Rabbi Ribner's site, you will see it. Just google Rav Gershon Ribner. Unfortunately, however, you will be disappointed after you listen. Rabbi Wein, in those remarks, is not recognized for the adam godol , Rosh Yeshiva, or talmid chacham that he was. Extremely disappointing.
      That's all I'll say.
