Will the Super Ads run again

This past summer Some Lakewood publications enacted a policy to not accept for publication any advertadvertis showing pictures of shaites or hair locks. The policy was in  compliance with the request of many leading Lakewood poskim. There is no such policy for extravagant gashmiyus ads published weekly.

Will the same policy be enacted for super bowl related ads? Do poskim have an issue with חוקותיהם?
Every year leading up to the big game ads scream of super Sunday specials for those hosting superbowl parties, listing finger food, buffalo wings and other specials. Mainstream frum publications stopped running superbowl related ads. Will lakewood publications do the same.

The issue is not about following sports,  its about making it accepted and a kosher Jewish event. Yes,  it's easy to argue that following it sports is a kosher outlet and there are bigger issues to worry about, does that mean that it becomes mainstream and children will grow up thinking it's another yom tov event.

  1. Do the jewish owners of the billboards in town have a legal right to turn down a prespective traif eatery ad request?

  2. Two points:
    1. I share your concern about how these publications effect the basic standards of our families. Opulence, once reserved for the 1%, are thrust in the faces of naive children, leading them to have an entirely warped perspective on what constitutes "normal". I have been around a little and very few bathrooms, bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms actually look like those depictions. It is for this reason that none of these publications are found in my home. We try hard to provide enough healthy reading material for our children to compensate for the loss.

    2. I don't believe that the criticism of Rabbonim is warranted. Most healthy Rabbonim don't read these publications. The letters that have appeared in the past regarding specific issues are brought about through the efforts of self appointed askonim. If you, or anyone, is serious about stopping the Superbowl ads you would be well advised to copy the same methods of those self appointed askonim.

  3. I don't allow any of these publications into my home. Why should our innocent children be exposed to over the top gashmiyus page after page. Why introduce them to foreign hashkafos and concepts that we work so hard to shield them from.
It's amazing how our phones and computers must be filtered but the print magazines and weeklies can just enter our homes with no oversights.

  4. Seems that everyone has their own agendas and priorities. Some people look to give a lot of publicity to investors that come to town and hope to bury some other retailers on the way to their hopefully being Matzliach

    1. Agreed. Super Bowl, which is far from our Ruach and hashkafa, is vilified and the publications do not accept overtly super bowl ads. But pushing for the outsiders who are determined to destroy the Ehrliche local businesses, that'd all kosher and yosher. Frankly, that is more nefarious and insidious than watching a couple of human ... chasing a ball and then eating hot poppers
