Lakewood Students to Participate in National Walkout

Lakewood High school students will participate today at 10:00 am in a national walk demanding an end to Gun violence in schools. The district  will not discipline the students and will provide safety and security for the walk out by the LPD. "The District and High School Administration, with the assistance of School Security and the Lakewood Police Department, will take all precautions necessary to ensure safety of the students. The School district released the following statement:



Dear Parents/Guardians:
As you may or may not know, a national walkout is currently being planned in high schools
throughout the Country for March 14, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. and last for 17 minutes in
remembrance of the 17 victims of the recent tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Approximately 185,000 students nationwide are expected to participate in the event.
The students of Lakewood High School have expressed an interest in honoring those killed, and
to express their frustration against gun violence on this date and time. Therefore, an organized
expression of frustration, in regard to the proliferation of gun violence has been planned.
Due to the widely publicized date and time specific call for this event, District and High School
Administration, with the assistance of School Security and the Lakewood Police Department,
will take all precautions necessary to ensure:
 Students are gathered away from the general public.
 They control access to the gathering site (Members of the Public are not invited).
 That the site will be checked in advance for any safety and security risks by the
Lakewood Police Department.
 Sufficient Security Personnel (Lakewood School District Security Specialists &
Lakewood Police Department).
