Haforah of Parshas Kedoshim Will Be read 1st time in 27 years

For the first time in 27 years the haftorah of parshas Kedoshim "Hasishpot" will be leined in shul according to minhag Ashkenaz. That is because the parshiyos of Achrei Mos and kedoshim are usually combined and although when you have a double parsha you lein the haftorah of the 2nd one, when it comes to Achrei kedoshim the minhag is to read Haftorah of Achrei Mos.

Even in years that Achrei and kedoshim are seperate, the shabbos of  Achrei falls out many times on erev Rosh chodesh which the haftorah of Macha chodesh is read, or when Achrei falls out on shabbos hagadol, the haftorah for kedoshim  the following  week is that of Achrei Mos.

Although not the common custom, there is even an old Yerushalmi minhag not to ever read the haftarah of Kedoshim; and even when the Parshiyos are separate, Acharei Mos’s haftarah is read two weeks in a row. Dayan Rav Yisroel Yaakov Fisher ZTL would lock the Aron kodesh in zichron Moshe shul on shabbos Kedoshim to not allow access for anyone to lean the haftorah from Yechezkel.

The reason for the uncharacteristic change is that the haftarah of Parshas Kedoshim, ‘Hasishpot’, from sefer Yechezkel, includes what is known as ‘To’avas Yerushalayim,’ referring to a revealing prophecy of the woeful spiritual state and the terrible happenings that will occur to the inhabitants of Eretz Yisrael for not following the word of G-d.

BDE: The Biala Rebbe Zatzal

האדמו"ר מביאלא זצוק"ל, זקן אדמו"רי מועצת  גדולי התורה , בעל ה'מבשר טוב' וזקן חברי המועצת שחיבר למעלה ממאה ספרים

Hamodia: The Torah world in general, and the Chassidic community in particular, was plunged into mourning on Friday morning, with the news of the petirah of the Biala Rebbe, Harav Betzalel Simcha Menachem Ben-Zion Rabinowitz, zy”a, at the age of 89.

In recent months, the Rebbe had been hospitalized several times, and was hospitalized this week in a serious condition. His situation took a sudden turn for the worse on Friday morning, and the Rebbe’s pure Neshamah returned to its Maker.

The Rebbe’s levayah is to be held Friday afternoon in Yerushalayim with kevura on Har hazeisim.

The Rebbe was born in the city of Siedlce in Poland, on 8 Adar I, 5695/1935, the youngest son of his father, the Chelkas Yehoshua of Biala, zy”a.

His mother, Rebbetzin Chana Fesha, a”h, was the daughter of Harav Eliezer Bernholz, z”l, who was a Biala Chassid from the city of Voldova.

When the Nazis conquered Poland, and among other places, they arrived in Biala, they began their destruction by abusing the Rabbanim and Admorim. Then his father fled to Barnovice, which was then under Russian rule. In Barnovice, the Koidanover Rebbe, the brother-in-law of the Chelkas Yehoshua, resided. When they wanted to return to Poland, the Koidanover Rebbetzin, who was childless, lo aleinu, pleaded with the Biala Rebbetzin, a”h, to leave her at least one child of her children in her care, so that at least one memory of the family would remain.

In the end, it turned out that the family members were transferred to Siberia as part of the rescue operation from Barnovice, after all the Jews who remained in Barnovice or in Biala were killed, and the Rabinowitz family remained for refuge, b’chasdei Shamayim.

With time, they managed to obtain approvals from the Polish government to leave Siberia and arrived in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, not far from the Persian border, closer to Eretz Yisrael.

His father, the Chelkas Yehoshua, made sure that his young son and his brother and sister left for Eretz Yisrael, via Tehran, Iran, where they stayed for several months.

Eventually, they arrived by buses through Transjordan to Eretz Yisrael. The journey was full of immense difficulties, and the fact that they managed to overcome the great turmoil, under the conditions prevailing at that time, was in itself a miraculous feat.

In Eretz Yisrael, he initially stayed in the Battei Avos, established by the Ponevez Rav, and later with his great-uncle, Harav Yosef Zvi Kalish, zt”l, Rav of Bnei Brak, where he stayed for two years while his father, the Chelkas Yehoshua, was still in Poland and he maintained contact with his father through letter exchanges.

Already in his youth, the Rebbe was recognized as one of the greatest and most diligent bachurim of the Ponevez Yeshivah. His vast knowledge in all areas of Torah was dazzling. He was an outstanding talmid of the Roshei Yeshivah, Harav Elazar Menachem Shach, Harav Shmuel Rozovsky, and Harav Dovid Povarsky, zt”l.

Agudath Israel of America Statement on the White House’s Unprecedented Decision to Cease Supplying Certain Arms to Israel
