  1. In light of recent discussions surrounding ShopRite and its relationship with the Lakewood community, and maybe d'rabonen over a deorasia of suporting a yid I believe it is essential to reflect on where we direct our patronage. Supporting businesses that align with our principles fosters a stronger community connection. I appreciate your consideration of these points as we move forward togethe

    1. What were the “recent discussions” ?

    2. Fostering a stronger community connection has no mekor in halacha or mesora. Tosfos in Brochos says that geirim extend the galus, because they introduce non-jewish, but socially popular concepts into our way of lives.

    3. ab,Megaleh panim beTorah with your extraordinarily novel interpretation . Whatever may be the case here,in general supporting businesses with the right principles is Kavod Shomayim

    4. I was not encouraging the support of foreign owned stores, rather pointing out that creating new socially positives tropes and bending it into yiddishkeit is what tosafos is referring too. We should be supporting frum owned stores. But many have a chumra not to buy chomets that was sold over pesach, and I don't see the stores making an effort in that regard, rather they stock up before, so they will have "sold" product after pesach. In fact many distributors will focus their new stock after pesach in chasidish areas because most of Lakewood doesn't care. The "baked after pesach" products arrive to Lakewood last, and only in recent years with the influx of chasidim. So the "right principals" are not in line with what the public is wanting.
The halacha in hilchos tzedaka says to buy from a jewish owned store, even paying up to 1/5th more. Nothing to do with "fostering stronger community connection".

  2. You write "I" but you don't tell us who you are as you seem to take a position in Halacha

    1. Makes no difference. People are crazy, need their pizza fix, need one right away. Or two or three slices.

    2. Isn't this the required KCL policy of all the stores?

  4. I dont remember growing up having a mass shopping going on. I dont think in those days people sold all the chometz. Is this a new thing that people do?
