Communism also did good. At least the very beginning. It destroyed the crushing very unhealthy class system that existed before.
[Somewhat similar to what we might need here.]

  3. The CI stated re: Zionism. His biggest fear of many re: Zionism is: we ( the Frum) may someday come to appreciate and like it

    1. we want Zionism to collapse so the shmad ends and we live in peace and learn and daven in peace

    2. Who do he say it to? When I was growing up it was widely believed in the Chareidi world that the Chazon Ish had said the state of Israel can not last for more than 40 years. He probably told both to the same person...

    3. 7:23,
50 was what it was. However nb's quote was the other possibility & came to pass instead.Thereby the other was nullified

    4. 7:43 That is revisionism. I actually remember when the quote of the Chazon Ish went on extension from 40 years to 50 years but then it couldn't get anymore extensions so a new version was created.

    5. The Chazon Ish quote was certainly forty years. He allegedly compared the state of Israel to being in the midbar and said that it too would not last for more than 40 years. The midbar part which was dropped later on would make no sense if he said 50 years. Either way there is no credible source that the CI ever said it.

  4. I didn't listen to the last speech, but the title is telling.
'Prestigious position in the Rabbinate isn't synonymous with erudition'.
So inheriting a large real estate empire that led to a Moetzes position has nothing to do with erudition, understanding, or leadership qualities.
    Are they admitting it?

  5. He's basically saying that zionism has a redeeming factor, and communism does not. Which is why zionism lasted so long.
Someone has been voting for WZO. He isn't sufficiently anti-zionist.
We need to bring the Hefkervelt bot here to set him straight.

  6. Most the people reading this site have benefited tremendously from the esrablishment of the State of Israel. From sending their sons to Yeshivos, daughters to seminaries, and for the more pleasure minded, Sukkos in EY . So please, being grateful to H-shem, is also appreciating that He has given Israel a tekuma. Yes, its heartbreaking and infuriating that there is such open hatred from some limited quarters in the population. But overall, it is THE bastion of ameilus Ha'Torah today. And therefore we daven for the protection of EY. And we are proud and grateful for what H-shem has provided the Yidden after the terrible Churban.

    2. So if I go to Miami for vacation I need to be endlessly grateful to Hashem for the acquisition of Florida from the Spanish in 1821
And also for the founding fathers for establishing the USA and now we can learn torah in the yeshivos of the US

    3. "And also for the founding fathers for establishing the USA and now we can learn torah in the yeshivos of the US". Actually, yes. You should be grateful, because America is a great country that offers religious freedom on an unprecedented level and that is why Torah can flourish here too. For those who are terribly nostalgic for pre-war Europe, there was nothing closely resembling the sheer numbers and accessibility of yeshivos we have today.

From the interstate system (inspired by the Autobahn) driving a car (invented by Karl Benz) to preparing Yom Tov meals with a Bosch mixer. So please, being grateful to H-shem, is also appreciating that He has given Germany a tekuma. Yes, its heartbreaking and infuriating that there is such open hatred from some limited quarters in the population. But overall, it was THE bastion of ameilus Ha'Torah in the times of the Rishonim. And therefore we daven for the protection of Germany. And we are proud and grateful for what H-shem has provided the Yidden after the terrible French expultion of 1394.

The destiny of Judaism contains far more to it than just bare vacuous numbers.
There are way more of a lot of things.
There's way more druggies than there was pre-war

    7. 745 -- under the mandate, yidden will still not be allowed in Palestine (means a very small Mir and Brisk and other yeshivot, many yidden will still be living in Poland and Russia and Hungary.). Lita will be completely shmad (for our NKer who falsely claims Tzahal shmad and intermarried.

Yerushalyim will still be a small town, only in western (not even half).

Parsim will still be living in Iran, morroco Iraq Egypt Syria and Lebanon Jews will still remain there.

Real estate values will be small fraction of current values, how will parents marry off their children?

  7. I do see tremendous Yad Hashem in the fact the state of Isreal stuck around for so long but even if didn’t I don’t see the question of why as being so difficult to answer. Firstly , the kingdom of the Aserer Hasvotim was a lot worse than the Zionists but they managed to stick around for over two hundred years, despite having plenty of enemies who were a lot stronger than them and frequently being at war. As Hashem indicated to Eliyohu HaNavi “we are not dealing with the Dor Deah of the Dor Hamidbar who can be punished in that generation with such obvious cause and effect punishments anymore” That aside (I’m surprised Rabbi Ribner did not mention this) Chinuch Atzmai, Shuvu, Ma'ayan etc would never have been so successful outside the state of Israel) Thirdly and to ask another question what zchus do Israel’s adversaries have that they should be the ones to win? Communism did not fall to a group of even worse rashayim. When you consider what blood thirsty Rashyim those who fight Israel are , it is not a surprise that Hashem is not on their enemies side.

    1. the Aseres hashevatim comparison, though frequent, is never authentic, as the original foundation was legit. cf Divrei Hayamim comm.{radak}

      Delete
    2. What does their original foundation have to do with their rishus? And it is not so simple that they were legitimate anyway . Tosfos and other Rishonim argue about whether someone like Achav had any halachic legitimacy to his being king. He inherited his father who became king through a military coup after (causing) the suicide of King Zimri who became king by assassinating King Baasha who became king by assassinating King Nadav, the son of Yeruvam. Does halacha really consider them legitimate kings? The Rishonim didn't all think so.

    3. Debatable.Less black &white But even if so,the kingdom itself was legitimate.Founded by a navi.
Even if it was supposed to be only be short term

    4. Mr Cohen. I'm not getting your point and defense of the ten shevatim. What is debatable ?And the same Navi who founded it also said afterwards that it will be destroyed due to it's rishus . But that did not happen until more than 200 years later.

    6. He is as a respected masphia? I had no clue. Where? And what is his full name? My apologies if that is correct. I always assume that if someone is hocking online then they can not possibly be a respected rabbi. Unless it is a halacha or non controversial haskafa site. But I apologize once again if he is in fact a respected mashpia

  8. I don't know about Rabbi Ribner but I would be furious if someone I was going out withheld information they knew I would say no because of because they can't picture not marrying me. By that logic anyone can justify lying about anything when going out.

    1. The halacha of not presenting damaging information at first is quite well established.

You being furious is more a product of your sense of entitlement than any real halachic or moral claim.

    2. Rabbi Ribner was not talking about the first date, he was talking about someone who had gone out six times with someone and even then only heard from a third party about the issue.

    3. Halacha at first date is well established.

It's hazy enough that people (parents) ignore it altogether (with rabbinic dispensation.)

In some things they alot worse {though dancing at Nova wasn't any less}.In many things they were significantly better.

    1. Considering that all those who destroyed the kingdom of the ten tribes only resettled them elsewhere in their own kingdom and the posuk make no reference to any other acts of violence on their part, yes, they did act like Tzadkim compared to way today's Arabs would . This is how the posuk describes the destruction of that kingdom. No October 7th type behavior.

    2. Most arabs would also be content if the yahuds were just resettled elsewhere

      Delete
    3. Most arabs would also be content if the yahuds were just resettled elsewhere The Nazis said that too. And completely irrelevant as a comparison to those who destroyed the aseres hasevotim because the latter group resettled the Jews in their OWN country. They did not kick them out and say "go back to Poland" like is said by the "moderate" Arabs today. And if you can view the Arabs that way you can bend over backwards to be dan l'laf zcus other Jews too. Even if they are "Zionists"

      Delete
    4. An old debate how much Nazis meant it. We can make a similar new debate re:Hamas & the like.
Based on my experience in a couple Arab countries ,for most other arabs it's a fact

    5. If the Arabs in other countries were really so willing to accept Israeli civilian refuges then they would not have thrown out the Jews who were already living there with zero evidence that they actually were "Zionists"

If you have a nice dignified beard, you'll probably manage well in some Arab countries.( If you're swindled for some bucks it's nothing personal;it's embedded in that culture)

      Re: refugees
Way more complicated than the public official record.
      eg
Aliyah bet undercovers will definitely involved in instigation of some of the riots

      Delete
    7. Those aliyah bet undercovers must have had a LOT of power in countries like Iraq, Syria, Lebanon. Libya, Eygpt etc. if they were able to engineer riots, showcase trials, firing or all Jewish government employees, confiscation of assets etc. all while remaining completely anonymous and on foreign enemy territory. How did they do it? How do you know they did? There were in fact two Jews who were accused of throwing bombs at shuls and Jewish owned businesses in Iraq. Even if they were guilty (1) that was AFTER Iraq had already placed in many anti-Jewish measures (2)at that point in time the state of Israel was not committed to and uncertain about accepting the Jewish Iraqi refugees. On the grounds that they as a country of 600,000 facing such shortages that they need to even ration food they do not have the ability to absorb over 100,000 penniless Iraqi Jewish refugees. (the Iraqi government made the forfeiture of all property to the government a condition on Jews leaving)

      Delete
    8. 10:51,
These are all fair questions. But questions aren't the same as refutations

Fact:the non-zionist territorialists had at least eight options of refuges for the Jews of Europe besides Palestine eg British Guyana, Western Australia, Rhodesia,a section of Alaska, and they were all insidiously subverted by zionist organizational operators

  10. Why is it that nonsense like zionism always gets so many responses? It's almost as if people are looking for distractions, that they look at things that are as irrelevant to their lives as possible to be busy with.
