- Knesset Passes Bill Freezing Arrests of Yeshiva Bochurim and youngeleit
The Knesset voted 58-54 to approve a coalition-backed law temporarily halting the arrest and prosecution of ultra-Orthodox men who are considered as evading military service.
The law grants tens of thousands of Yeshiva students immunity from arrest until November 30, extends that protection to newly eligible recruits, and suspends ongoing criminal proceedings, effectively removing the threat of arrest and significantly reducing Charedi enlistment during that period.
Yesh Atid and Yisrael Beytenu parties both petition the High Court of Justice against a law banning arrests and prosecution of Haredi draft dodgers, effectively freezing most Haredi enlistment, moments after it passed in the Knesset, accusing the coalition of advancing “mass Haredi draft evasion” while “trampling the principle of equality in bearing the burden.”

-A bipartisan Bill Would Make Standard Time Permanent Nationwide. A bipartisan group of lawmakers has introduced the "Sunshine for Our Kids Act of 2026," which would make standard time permanent across the U.S., ending the twice-yearly clock changes. Supporters say permanent standard time would improve children's health, safety, and sleep, while the House is also considering a separate bill to make daylight saving time permanent instead.
-If you dont like an early shkiah on shabbos in the winter Congress may finally have good news. A Trump-backed bill that would allow states to keep Daylight Saving Time year-round is moving closer to a full House vote after advancing out of the House Rules Committee.
President Trump celebrated the move, calling the twice-a-year clock change a "ridiculous" ritual and urging Congress to pass the measure
If the house bill is enacted, it could significantly affect the frum Orthodox community. In some areas, netz would occur after 8:00 a.m. for roughly two months, making davening vasikin far more difficult while many children would be traveling to school before sunrise. An advantage would be a later shkiah on Friday in the winter.
So far, frum organizations have largely remained silent on the proposed legislation.

ReplyDeletethe Eidah is correct but I dont understand why BMG is not joining in?
ReplyDeleteI agree!
DeleteBMG should use the profits of their new buildings to pay for tickets for all talmidim, past present and future, to go to EY to protest the draft.
After all, since the Kollel budget has been taken over by outsiders, nobody knows where that profit is supposed to go.
