- President Trump makes a major promise at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas: $5,000 for every adult U.S. citizen if Republicans win both the House and Senate in the midterms.“I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000.”

- Israel media report Rav Shalom Ber Sorotzkin, rosh yeshiva of Ateres Shlomo, is expected to spend Rosh Hashanah this year in Uman, Ukraine, after a major American donor pledged a multimillion-dollar contribution to the Ateres Shlomo institutions on condition that the rosh yeshiva spend the Yom Tov with him there.

- Lakewood officials finally question hazardous busing disparity After years of ignoring the issue, local elected officials spoke out at tonight’s Lakewood BOE meeting about thousands of yeshiva students who live along hazardous routes and have been paying for LSTA busing.

The question raised was straightforward: If hazardous-route transportation is being provided to non-mandated public-school students, why isn’t the same transportation available to non-mandated private-school students?

Under New Jersey law, officials questioned whether the district can provide hazardous transportation to one group of non-mandated students while denying it to another based on whether they attend public or non-public schools.  The NJ statute says that if they don't provide courtesy busing to public school they can't provide hazardous busing to non public. Yet there was some conflicting interpretation between the  state monitor and school attorney.

The school district attorney acknowledged that the regulations and district policies are complicated and called for a committee to review and clarify the rules.

Officials also asked the Township to update the list of hazardous roads which could directly affect which students qualify for transportation.

-Today the Lakewood Board of Education will have a special meeting on hazardous bus transportation. The agenda includes a resolution authorizing up to $14.88 million for the Lakewood Student Transportation Authority (LSTA) to provide hazardous route  transportation for eligible nonpublic-school students. The funding is based on up to 12,642 students at a maximum of $1,177 per student, with the final amount subject to verification. - New Jersey residents receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits will see higher maximum monthly benefit levels beginning October 1, as new federal cost-of-living adjustments take effect. The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently released its SNAP benefit levels for the 2027 federal fiscal year. The annual adjustment increases the maximum allotment available to households in New Jersey and the other 47 contiguous states, as well as Washington, D.C. Under the new amounts, the maximum monthly SNAP allotment for a one-person household will increase from $298 to $306, while the maximum for a family of four will rise from $994 to $1,023.
