Heavy rain and severe thunderstorms are expected to hit New Jersey on Tuesday with the potential for “life-threatening flash flooding,” damaging winds and tornadoes. A flood watch has been issued for 18 counties starting at 8 a.m. and continuing into Wednesday.

- Giyus: High Court Freezes Law Protecting Bnei Torah. Israel's Supreme Court, sitting as a nine-justice panel, has temporarily suspended a newly passed law that halted the arrest of bnei Torah who have not registered for military service. The decision follows petitions claiming the law was passed through an improper legislative process. In an unusual move, the government did not defend the law. Instead, the Knesset's legal adviser argued that the legislation was enacted unlawfully and should be invalidated. The court also allowed attorney Natan Rosenblatt to speak on behalf of the chareidi community, despite not being a party to the case. He argued that recent court actions have unfairly targeted the community and said the draft places bnei Torah in conflict between Torah guidance and state law. Justice David Mintz questioned his argument, suggesting it reflected a sectarian viewpoint. TJV

- New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill says the New Jersey Division of Elections has begun removing more than 4,500 people who were improperly registered to vote, while the remaining 2,100 registrations will be sent to county election officials for further review.

- A large fire broke out Tuesday morning at the Agri Star meat processing plant in Postville, sending heavy smoke into the area. The company said the fire will cause disruptions to normal production and delivery schedules as operations are affected

- Traffic, despite bein hazmanim schedule: Lakewood Police are advising drivers of two roadwork projects beginning today. Route 9 between 2nd Street and Route 88 will undergo upgrades for about two weeks, while Cedar Bridge Avenue between Hurley Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive will have gas line work for about one week. At least one lane in each direction will remain open during both projects, with police assisting traffic as needed.

Representatives of the Knesset’s legal adviser and the attorney general both said that the law should be annulled, with the former arguing that the manner in which the legislation was passed severely violated Knesset procedure, and the latter asserting that the law creates unconstitutional discriminatory enforcement in the criminal justice system.
