Update: מעבדות לחירות B"H The Bachur was released before Yom Tov in Eretz Yisrael thanks to the help of Rav Shmuel Rabinowitz and MK Aryeh Deri. He will return to prison following the first day Yom Tov and finish the 20 day sentence.
While the frum knesset members remain silent, in a last minute attempt to free a Lakewood boy from IDF Military Prison for Pesach, Knesset Member Dov Khenin of the Communist party penned a Letter to the Defense Minister Avigdr Lieberman on behalf of the boy to set him free. He writes there is no question this boy is not fit to serve in the IDF due to his health conditions and other personal issues. He was acting on advice of his Rabbis not to enlist or go to the Recruitment center. There is no reason he should not be freed and be able to spend the Seder night with his family. There is no reason that this young bachur should be a target of a national political debate especially considering his health and current emotional state.

השבוע ביום שני 26.3 נעצר הבחור אהרון .... בן ה-18 בנתב"ג שהיה בדרכו למשפחתו בארה"ב באשמת אי התייצבות בלשכת גיוס. הנער הצעיר משתייך לקהילה החרדית והוא לא התייצב בהוראת רבותיו וכחלק מהמאבק החרדי נגד גיוס בני ישיבות. אמש פורסם כי הוחלט להשאירו במעצר גם במהלך חג הפסח וליל הסדר. על פי העדויות שהגיעו לידי הבחור מסרב לשתף פעולה הן עם רשויות הצבא והן עם הגורמים ועורכי הדין שהתגייסו לטפל בנושא. הנער הצעיר סובל מבעיות בריאותיות ואישיות שניתן להבחין בהם בשיחה עמו. אין ספק שהנער אינו מתאים לשירות צבאי, כך עולה משיחות עם מכריו ובני משפחתו. עושה רושם שהצבא משתמש במעצר הבחור כדי להפעיל עליו לחץ, ואולי אף על בני קהילתו המוחים נגד הגיוס ואינם מתייצבים בלשכת הגיוס, ואינו מתכוון לגייסו לשירות צבאי. אני פונה אליך שתשתמש בסמכותך כדי לבדוק את הנושא וכדי לפעול שהנער הצעיר ישתחרר ויוכל לחגוג את ליל הסדר ב כאדם חופשי. לא יתכן שוויכוח פוליטי שעומד בלב החברה הישראלית ישמש בכדי לפגוע בנער צעיר שאינו בקו הבריאות, ולהתעמר בו

This is a boy who clearly has emotional issues and would be exempt from the army in no time at all, if he would what the Chazon Ish and Rav Shach told everyone to do -- register and get a ptur.
ReplyDeleteInstead, the status quo was changed for the peleg, and the peleg rabbis instructed their followers to stop registering. A communal suicide pact.
Yet, no one cares. Not one peleg leader called for demonstrations on behalf of this troubled boy, even though this boy was clearly the face of the previous protests.
The peleg leaders have backstabbed their boy.
Or maybe they didn't to have demonstrations during bein hazmanim and take away the bochrim from their precious bein hazmanim activities, since we all know that bein hazmanim activities protect us from all harm. As soon as the zman starts again, and the bochrim are back in bais medrash, perhaps the demonstations will begin again. Who knows.
