Israel At War Fdiday August 8

Israel at war day 672

- The Political-Security Cabinet approved the Prime Minister's proposal to defeat Hamas.
The IDF will prepare to take control of the city of Gaza while providing humanitarian aid to the civilian population outside the combat zones.

The cabinet adopted by majority vote the five principles to end the war:
1. Disarm Hamas.
2. Return all hostages - both the living and the dead.
3. Demilitarize the Gaza Strip.
4. Israeli security control over the Gaza Strip.
5. The existence of an alternative civilian government that is neither Hamas nor the Palestinian Authority.

- An overwhelming majority of cabinet ministers believed that the alternative plan presented to the cabinet would not achieve the defeat of Hamas nor the return of the hostages.

- Germany will not sell arms to Israel until further notice over Gaza City takeover plan

- The operation that the IDF is currently preparing in the first stage is in the city of Gaza. The goal is to evacuate all residents of the town of Gaza towards the central camps and additional areas by October 7, 2025. A siege will be imposed on Hams militants who remain in the city, while the IDF maneuvers there. The Prime Minister and the Defense Minister have been authorized to approve the IDF's final operational plan.

- Smotrich unhappy with Netanyahu’s Gaza plan, believes it to be a ploy to bring Hamas back to negotiations

- Hamas says that Israel’s decision to approve a plan to take over Gaza City is proof that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government are disregarding the lives of the hostages, as they know that expanding the military operation “will lead to their sacrifice.”

- Six said injured in Gaza City after airdropped aid package lands on balcony, collapsing it onto waiting crowd

- China expresses “serious concerns” over Israel’s plan to take control of Gaza City, urging it to “immediately cease its dangerous actions.”
“Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people and is an inseparable part of Palestinian territory,” a foreign ministry spokesperson tells AFP in a message.

-Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office dismisses as “complete fake news” an NBC report alleging that the premier fought with US President Donald Trump over the humanitarian situation in Gaza during a fiery phone call late last month.

- Following the expectation of an expansion of the campaign and the political echelon's demand to occupy the Strip: IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir cancels a trip he had planned to the US this evening for a farewell ceremony for CENTCOM Commander General Kurilla, as well as for a series of meetings with senior officials in the Pentagon and the American security establishment. The IDF Chief of Staff was supposed to fly to the US this evening for a short visit, but according to IDF sources, he made the trip conditional on the existence of a ceasefire. Since there is currently no such ceasefire, and due to the difficult situation with the hostage issue, the Chief of Staff decided to cancel the trip.

- Axios: At least 13 Democratic members of Congress signed a petition calling on Trump to recognize a Palestinian state, and at least one legislator is preparing to submit a resolution to recognize a Palestinian state.

- Eli David, brother of Evyatar David (the hostage in the hands of Hamas), to ABC: "We saw a human skeleton in the video. Doctors said Evyatar only has a few days to live. We must get him food and medical treatment as quickly as possible to save his life."

- Aircraft from Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Germany, Belgium, and — for the first time — Canada, airdropped 120 pallets of humanitarian aid in the northern and southern Gaza Strip today, the IDF says.

- US Ambassador to Israel Huckabee added: "I tell people all the time: America has many friends, we have quite a few allies - but we only have one true partner, Israel. G-d chose the Jewish people, he gave them a place - a tiny strip of land, perhaps the most disputed piece of land in the entire world. And he said: This is yours."

- In response to the Israeli demand for the exile of several senior Hamas military leaders, the sources said that Hamas has informed the mediators of its agreement to exile a symbolic number of senior military officers, in exchange for a "comprehensive deal" - which includes the cessation of the war in the Gaza Strip and a complete Israeli withdrawal from all Gaza territories to the borders before October 7, 2023

-The Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Johnson, visited Judea and Samaria in the city of Ariel. This is the first-ever visit of a House Speaker to Judea and Samaria. The Council organized the visit, and he met with senior members of the Council during it.

Bein Hazmanim Begins in Lakewood for Summer 2025

As the summer of 2025 begins, the kollel yungeleit of Lakewood and bochurim of BMG are entering their well-deserved bein hazmanim break. This short vacation offers a time to recharge before returning to the shtender for the upcoming Elul Zman.

Of course, limud haTorah continues throughout the community, with many local botei medrashim offering special bein hazmanim programs for bochurim and youngeleit staying local as their wife's are working
Still there's a noticeable shift in pace. During these weeks, Lakewood is often filled with a sense of calm and serenity, as families take time to relax or head out on vacation.

While in the past the streets would noticeably quiet down and traffic would ease during this time, the recent growth of surrounding neighborhoods and nearby towns means that the peaceful, empty roads may soon become a thing of the past.

World reacts to Images of Israeli hostages shown starving and forced to dig their own grave by Hamas

-President Trump was deeply moved he shedded tears when he saw a recent video featuring Evyatar David, a hostage held captive. He urged immediate action to secure a hostage deal & expressed strong sentiments regarding the situation.

The Trump administration has grown weary of ongoing efforts to secure partial hostage deals. The U.S. is now taking a firm stance: either all hostages are released, or there will be no agreement. If this condition is rejected, Washington is prepared to fully support Israel in achieving a complete victory over Hamas.

PM Netanyahu in a message about the hostages' videos: “Hams does not want a deal. It wants to break us through these horror videos, lies, and propaganda, but I am determined to eliminate Hams and free our kidnapped sons.”
European foreign ministers following the videos of the hostages: The hostages must be released immediately and unconditionally. Hams must disarm.

Minister Netanyahu: "The cruelty of Hamas knows no bounds. While the State of Israel allows the entry of humanitarian aid to the residents of Gaza, Hams terrorists deliberately starve our hostages and cynically and maliciously film them." "Hamas terrorists also deliberately starve the residents of the Gaza Strip and prevent them from receiving aid, while echoing a false propaganda campaign against Israel." "The countries of the world must take a clear stand against the criminal Nazi-like abuse by the terrorist organization Hamas."

Menu For Shaleshudes This Week

The Gemara in says מסכת תענית
דתניא זתשעה באב שחל להיות בשבת וכן ערב תשעה באב שחל להיות בשבת אוכל ושותה כל צרכו ומעלה על שולחנו אפילו כסעודת שלמה בשעתו

On a year   when erev Tisha B"A v falls out on shabbos not only that there's no סעודת המפסקת but one can eat meat and drink wine like the Seuda of Shlomo Hamelech in his prime.
What's on the menu?
People try to traditional foods that are eaten before a fast to help you stay hydrated.

This year stores are advertising "Sushi salad"as a trend for a  staple  and many will be eating.

Here are Some tips offered for an easy fast by n betweencarpools

It’s not good to have protein before a fast as protein uses more water to digest and can actually dehydrate you. It’s best to have complex carbs.

Adequately salt your food. A lot of people think they need to cut out salt before a fast, but salt actually helps draw water into the cells and helps with water retention (you obviously don’t want overly salty food, but as much salt as you’d usually use is fine!)

Here are a list of ideas from readers on what they would have for Shalosh seudos before Tisha  B'Av

- Trump: Too Little, Too Late. Jerome “Too Late” Powell is a disaster. DROP THE RATE! The good news is that Tariffs are bringing Billions of Dollars into the USA!
"Jerome 'Too Late' Powell, a stubborn MORON, must substantially lower interest rates, NOW. IF HE CONTINUES TO REFUSE, THE BOARD SHOULD ASSUME CONTROL, AND DO WHAT EVERYONE KNOWS HAS TO BE DONE!"

- Trump: The Russia, Russia, Russia HOAX is now TOTALLY  UNDISPUTED! THE FACTS ARE ALL THERE, IN BLACK AND WHITE. It is the biggest scandal in American History. The perpetrators of this CRIME must pay a big price. This can never be allowed to happen in our Country again!

- Jonathan Turley on the Russia collusion : “It appears that everyone was in on the trick: the U.S. government, the media, even foreign governments. The only chumps were the American people. Now they are about to see how it was done...”
This week, Washington was rocked by new releases in the declassification of material related to the origins of the Russian investigation. The material shows further evidence of a secret plan by the Clinton campaign to use the FBI and media to spread a false claim that Donald Trump was a Russian asset. With this material, the public is finally seeing how officials and reporters set into motion what may be the greatest hoax ever perpetrated in American politics. There never was a Russian collusion conspiracy. This is the emerging story of the real Russian conspiracy to manufacture a false narrative that succeeded in devouring much of the first term of the Trump Administration.

- Delaware officially launched legal recreational marijuana sales on August 1, 2025. This marks a significant milestone in the state's cannabis legalization efforts, with adults aged 21 and over now able to purchase cannabis products from licensed retailers.

- Trump: I have just been informed that almost 20,000 Russian soldiers died this month in the ridiculous War with Ukraine. Russia has lost 112,500 soldiers since the beginning of the year. That is a lot of unnecessary DEATH! Ukraine, however, has also suffered greatly. They have lost approximately 8,000 soldiers since January 1, 2025, and that number does not include their missing. Ukraine has also lost civilians, but in smaller numbers, as Russian rockets crash into Kyiv, and other Ukrainian locales. This is a War that should have never happened — This is Biden’s War, not “TRUMP’s.” I’m just here to see if I can stop it!

At the kinnus gedolei yisroel in Bnei Brak last night on Gezeiras Giyus bnei Yeshivos

This Should Be The Last Fast of Tisha B'Av

Another year, we find ourselves once again sitting on the floor if Mashiach has not yet arrived.

Chazal teach us:
"כל המתאבל על ירושלים - זוכה ורואה בשמחתה. ושאינו מתאבל על ירושלים - אינו רואה בשמחתה."
"Whoever mourns for Yerushalayim will merit to see her joy, and one who does not mourn will not see her joy."

We hope and pray that this Tisha B'Av will be the last. We await the Geulah and long for the day to be transformed into a moed a time of celebration speedily in our days.

Perhaps this should be the last Tisha B’Av not only because of our longing for redemption and geula, but also because we’ve forgotten what we’re truly mourning, and how to mourn.

We live in a time where the weight of Tisha B’Av has sadly been diminished. Sitting on the floor, reading Kinnos in shul, is no longer the experience many of our children are growing up with. The day has been diluted taken over and, at times, even misused.

Ask a child today what Tisha B’Av means, and too often the first thing that comes to mind is “movie day.” Marketers target the date for high-profile video production releases, premiers, and sometimes even ideological agenda driven messaging. What was once a day of national grief has, in some circles, become a day of distraction.

Yes, modern technology allows us the comfort of our homes to hear inspiring shiurim and live-streamed drashos. And many of these messages are filled with sincerity calling for ahavas chinam, addressing the dangers of lashon hara and sinas chinam. But perhaps the emotional preparation and internal reflection these messages encourage should begin before Tisha B’Av, in the days leading up to it.

Tisha B’Av is not a day to anticipate it is a day we should long to transform. Not into a day of digital programming, but into a Yom Tov. משום דאיקרי מועד.
May we merit to see that day soon.
