Execution of Iranian Jew Postponed For a Month

Rabbi Moshe Margaretten of the Tzedek Association reports on Twitter:

"Excellent news! The court system in Kermansha Iran, has granted a temporary reprieve to the wrongly accused Jewish man, postponing his execution by approximately one month. We remain hopeful that justice will ultimately prevail, leading to his timely release and exoneration"
The family urges the Klal Yisroel to continue Davening for Irvin Netanel Ben Sonia Tziona.

NY Post reports: The case has sent a shockwave through the tiny Jewish community in the Islamic Republic, and Iranian Jewish expats and others in the Jewish community in New York and Israel are sounding the alarm that it is a clear miscarriage of justice.

Arvin Ghahremani, 20, was working out at the gym in the Iranian city of Kermanshah, about 500 miles outside of Tehran, in November 2022 when he was ambushed by seven men, one of whom was a 40-year-old man who owed him money, said Rabbi Danny Yiftach, who translated Iranian court documents for The Post.

The purported victim, identified as Amir Shokri by Iran Human Rights, pulled a knife and stabbed Ghahremani, the Rabbi claims.

The Jewish man fought back and disarmed Shokri then fatally stabbed him.

 - Will there be a pro palestine rally in Jackson on Sunday?
The New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations said a township counter-terrorism police officer went to an organizer’s home and told them a permit was needed for the protest. “Their treatment of protestors as threatening and dangerous is harmful and puts them at risk. By telling the community to remain vigilant in the face of peaceful assembly creates the harmful rhetoric that pro-Palestinian protestors are dangerous, violent and even implicitly criminal," CAIR-NJ said. A statement from the mayor Mike Reina on Thursday morning said that CAIR-NJ is trying to create a controversy that doesn't exist. "If they wish to hold a rally in support of a terrorist organization like Hamas that is their right, but they will have to comply with the township's requirement for a permit just like everyone else," Reina said.

The mayor also took a swipe at Gov. Phil Murphy  "I would hope that the Murphy Administration and Attorney General Platkin, who were quick to sue Jackson Township to allege anti-Semitism, will act just as quickly to insure CAIR’s 'rally' is not used to target Jackson’s growing Orthodox community," Reina said. - Assemblyman Avi Schnall interview in NJ monthly Magazine
Q: Donald Trump won in Lakewood by 65 points in 2020, his best performance in the state. Yet  you won there as a Democrat with 86 percent of the vote. How do you explain that?
AS: Lakewood is unique in that people don’t go down the line like sheep. We may vote one way on the national level, but on the local level, we’re willing to change. You have Sean Kean, a Republican assemblyman who got 36,000 votes while the mayor, Ray Coles, is a Democrat. There’s frustration in the status quo, and when there’s frustration, people come out to the polls.

Q: Not long ago you were a registered Republican. Why did you run as a Democrat?
AS: As I’ve gotten involved in politics, I’ve built relationships on both sides. Some of our Republican representatives couldn’t produce over the years; many Democrats have been there for us.

- Giyus Update:  Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu advances the previous version of the charedi conscription law that passed its first reading during the Lapid-Bennett government's tenure in January 2022. The announcement came on Wednesday, after weeks of negotiations between haredi representatives and the prime minister's office and just a day before a final deadline for the state to update the High Court of Justice over its plans to conscript military-age haredi men. Pundits  say this is just a ploy to stall time as opposition leaders will not accept this. As expected  Benny Gantz soon rejected the move and called it a "political maneuver." The bill that passed its first reading in 2022 was intended as the foundation for a broad "Israeli Service Plan" in which all sectors of Israeli society would need to conduct national service of some form. However, the bill itself, which passed in 2022, was "not enough then" and is "irrelevant to the reality after October 7," Gantz said in a post on X.

Agudath Israel’s New Jersey Office Statement on Cancellation of IHRA Committee Hearing

Agudath Israel of America’s New Jersey’s office is shocked to learn that bill S1292, which proposes the adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism within the state of New Jersey, will not be heard in committee due to “safety concerns.”

While we acknowledge the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals involved in the legislative process, this decision impedes crucial discourse during a time when we are experiencing an alarming rise in antisemitic incidents across the state, as was detailed in the recent report from the Attorney General’s office, which noted that once again, in 2023, Jews were the most targeted religious group in the state.
