NJ Gas Tax will rise 4.3 cents a Gallon this Fall

New Jersey's gas will rise another 4.3 cents per gallon on Oct. 1, Gov. Phil Murphy's administration announced Thursday. This latest hike comes just two years after motorists were stung with a 23-cent-per gallon increase. It previously was unchanged since 1988.
The 4.3-cent increase brings the total state taxes to 41.4 cents on each gallon of motor fuels pumped in New Jersey, and 48.4 cents on each gallon of diesel. (NJ.com)

Mesivtas in NJ May be Required to Carry Narcan Drug Antidote

Mesivtos and Bais Yaakovs will have to have Narcan drug antidote on hand.
Governor Murphy of NJ signed  legislation on Friday requiring public and private high schools across NJ to carry life-saving antidotes As New Jersey continues to grapple with an opioid addiction epidemic.
NJ.com reports The bipartisan legislation requires public and private high schools  to have Narcan or a similar substance on hand. It will allow school nurses or other trained employees to administer the antidotes to anyone on school grounds.
 The Garden State is on pace to see more than 3,000 people die from overdoses in 2018, the equivalent of the entire population of Saddle River.

Matzav - Burglars Go On Break-In Spree in Somerset Walk in Lakewood

Matzav.com reports- Overnight, two burglars wreaked havoc in Somerset Walk in Lakewood, NJ, breaking into and stealing from over 70 vehicles in the neighborhood.
The housing development, located of off Pine Street adjacent to Pine River Village, was the target of two thieves, who, between 2 a.m. and 2:48 a.m. rummaged through vehicles up and down Canary Drive, Raven Lane and the other streets and alleys of Somerset Walk. Any car that wasn’t lock was opened by the burglars, who took what they liked.  A 2018 Lexus LS 500 was stolen, but was later found on nearby Martin Luther King Drive. read more at Matzav.com

Tidbits for this weeks Maftir and Haftorah

Have Kavana for Zechiras Amalek
This week the maftir  Parshas Ki Seitzei is about Zechiras Amalek what we read yearly on Parshas Zachor. The mitzva is to remember about it once a year. Since  this coming year is a leap year it will be 13 months from last Shabbos zachor to the coming parshas Zachor. The Chasam Sofer explains that the annual reading suffices. The reason for this is that human nature of forgetting after a year does not depend solely on the elapsed time, but even on the passage of the seasonal events that pass us by yearly.
Nevertheless, The Maharam Schick (Mitzvos, no. 604) writes that the Chasam Sofer himself  ordered his disciples on leap years to have intention to fulfill the mitzvah of remembering Amalek with the torah reading of Ki Teitzei. This ensures that a twelve-month period will not elapse without a reading of the chapter.

As for the Haftorah we will read 2 of them first רני עקרה which is the 5th Nechama followed by  עניה סוערה. Since we skipped  עניה סוערה it on shabos Rosh Chodesh Elul we make up for it this week. Its important to not skip any of the seven haftoras of Nechama.

How do you designate over 6000 seats for the Davening on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur?
 In BMG the seating arrangements and requests has begun. Computer kiosks are set up for Talmidim and alumni to reserve their seats. They have to reserve it yearly there is no chazaka from previous years if you don't daven the tefillos both days rosh hashana. The yeshiva has 5 large minyanim  across botei medrashim the largest one with 1100 seats.  A special computer program is used to keep track of each seat if it will be available to accommodate new Talmidim.

Lakewood elementary boys school started this week for the new year after the summer vacation. Existing yeshivos added primary classes to accommodate the growth. This year a few new schools have opened primarily catering to the new chasidishe communities that have relocated to the Lakewood area. Sanz Klausenberg cheder opened yesterday with 3 classes, a new school, Toras Yisrael is opening with all classes from k- 9 catering to families with older children. Some schools arranged private transportation  the LSTA buses will begin in September.

Pole fire Causes Power Outage in Jackson and Lakewood

 A utility pole fire on East Veterans Highway was the cause of a  power outage to hundreds of customers in Jackson and Lakewood on Sunday night at 9:30 pm. Power has been restored to some areas those still affected can expect a restoration by 12:30 am according to JCP&L. Current outages are in the James street and Cross street Farady area of Lakewood and Brewers Bridge rd in Jackson.

Elul Zman 5778 Begins Motzei Shabbos in Lakewood

The Boys are back from Camp, the shofar will sound Sunday morning  and so will the kol Torah. Elul Zman 5778  officially begins this Motzei shabbos Parshas Re'eh in Bais Medrash Govoha with a short Chavrusah tumul on Sunday. The yeshiva will be learning Maseches Gittin. The other yeshivos and Mesivtos in Lakewood are starting Sunday night or Monday. The hustle and bustle is back as the quiet days of summer vacation are coming to an end.
Boys elementary schools will be starting the following week on different days. Girls are in camp for another  2 weeks and many families are planing last minute vacations to Lancaster and elsewhere.

NEW YORK - Hundreds gathered Thursday morning to mourn the petirah of Rebbetzin Sheila (Chava Sarah) Feinstein, a”h, the wife of, ybl”c, Harav Reuven Feinstein, shlita, who was niftar on Wednesday night, 28 Menachem Av. She had been hospitalized for the past two weeks following serious injuries suffered in an automobile accident. The Rebbetzin was in her late 70s.

At the levayah, held at the Yeshivah of Staten Island, Rav Reuven spoke of his late Rebbetzin’s great dedication in her essential role in enabling his own growth and decades of harbotzas haTorah.
“She supported me … she was mechazek me and took care of the whole olam hazeh part of my life,” he said.

With a commanding and regal presence, joined with exceptional intelligence and wit, Rebbetzin Feinstein’s dynamic personality propelled her to be one of the pillars upon which her husband’s yeshivah stood, and to be among the most trusted and loyal assistants to her revered father-in-law, Harav Moshe Feinstein, zt”l. At the same, she was a highly respected educator for many years in New York City’s Public School system and later in several mosdos haTorah.

BD"E Tragedy In the Catskills

The Levaya and Kvurah will  take place 10:30 AM Friday at the Lakewood Bais Hachaim corner 7th and Ramsey.  Shiva at the in laws (Gottlieb)1450 Walden Avenue, Lakewood, NJ.

A  3 year old child was struck and killed R"L this evening in the Catskills.  Shmuel Gelis Z”L, son of R' Moshe and Batsheva  from Toms River, NJ, was struck by an ice cream truck and went into cardiac arrest. The accident took place at Birchwood Estates,  in Monticello, NY.

Matzav.com reports Catskills Hatzolah were quickly called to the scene and made attempts at resuscitation. The victim was later transferred to Catskill Regional Medical Center where he was nifter r”l a short while later. It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rebbetzin Miriam Jurkansky a”h of Lakewood, NJ. Rebbetzin Jurkansky was the wife of Rav Avrohom Jurkansky, longtime senior member of Bais Medrash Govoah and one of the noted talmidei chachomim and marbitzei Torah at the yeshiva. Rebbetzin Jurkansky was a daughter of Rav Dov Schwartzman zt”l, late rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Bais Hatalmud of Yerushalayim.

Poll: Overwhelming Support for Trump Among Orthodox Jews

This poll reflects Lakewood's support for Trump at 90%

In the first known effort of its kind, Ami Magazine commissioned a poll of Orthodox Jews in the tristate area about their views on President Trump’s performance. The pollsters surveyed 263 people over two weeks and asked them four questions.

The strong support for Trump in the Orthodox community was evidenced by the finding that 91% of participants gave a “Satisfactory” or “Very Satisfactory” review to the president, and a total of 82% would vote for him again in 2020. (While not directly comparable, Rasmussen’s daily tracking poll for July 30 showed a 47% approval rating among the general public.)

Jackson BOE To Bus Lakewood students

The A Jackson Board of ed sent letters to parents of children enrolled in Lakewood schools and eligible for busing, that they will be busing them instead of giving aid in Lieu for their own transportation. This is great news to parents who were car pooling making multiple pick ups and drop offs. Jackson BOE has its own fleet of school buses that will transport the students. Smaller schools that are located near each other will combine students on the same bus. by law any student who is eligible received a check of $1000 as aid in lieu but the parents had to arrange their own transportation or the LSTA serviced some of the stops at the Jackson Lakewood border. This will also potentially free up more routes for the LSTA and can potentially reduce the time students sit on the bus. The measure is also expected to be a cost savings to the township.

Heat Advisory for NJ Heat Index 100-104

The National Weather Service has issued A Heat Advisory now in effect for much of NJ, southeast PA, and northern DE for Monday, as the maximum heat index will be between 100 and 104.
The advisory runs from noon until 7 p.m. for most of the state. In Essex, Union, Hudson, Passaic and Bergen it runs until 8 p.m., the National Weather Service said. Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Salem are not under a heat advisory and cooler temperatures are expected along the Jersey Shore.

Small Plane Crash at Lakewood Airport

A small plane crashed into the trees short of the runway Saturday at a New Jersey airport, the FAA said. The Bellanca plane was trying to land at Lakewood Township Airport at 1 p.m. when it crashed into the trees, according to the Federal Aviation Administration

Lakewood Fire Displaces 41 people

Lakewood News Network — A two-alarm structure fire at 6th Street and Lexington Avenue last night at around 11:25 has left 10 families without a place to sleep. The Fire is being investigated as a possible arson.
The New Jersey Red Cross division is currently assisting the displaced families.

Matzav-The Rebbetzin Needs rachmei Shamayim is in serious condition All are asked to daven and learn as a zechus for Rebbetzin Sheila Feinstein,  Chava Sarah bas Itta Devorah. who was in a car accident a week and a half ago together with her husband, Rav Reuven Feinstein, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva of Staten Island. In the accident, the vehicle in which the rosh yeshiva and rebbetzin were traveling hit a tree. The rebbetzin underwent a couple of procedures since then, but is in need of further rachamei Shomayim.
