  1. Nice idea, I joined a health sharing group this year, but don't think it will work in the Jewish Community. You need a large group to pool resources to start with, and Frum families tend to be large which can be very costly. They may be able to pull it off for less than the $15k insurance charges, but don't see them being able to manage at $500 per month for a family, like the other groups can

  2. How in the world could it work in a place like Lakewood where the average family is having a baby every 1-2 years?

  3. They're not allowed to start to sell this unless they have actuaries who figured it out, so if they could sell plans at that price, that means they could afford it.

    1. Just because they hired actuaries, doesn't mean the actuaries considered the specific demographics, which is unique.

  4. Also, you need to be careful because this is NOT considered insurance. So if you need to go on regular insurance afterwards for any reason and had developed a condition, you will be considered having a preexisting condition.

    3. There is a machlokes among accountants as to weather it is considered insurance for tax reasons. As far as the Obamacare exemption, it is insurance(all though that is now a mute point).

If by working it out with insurance companies, you mean that this is not actual health shares, but insurance, that seems strange, insurance are in the business of making money not losing.

As far as pre-existing conditions, as of now, insurances are required to accept people with pre-existing conditions, and there is no will in Congress to change that.

    1. At some point that is going to end. It has been subsidized by people who are paying $15 to $10 k per year for insurance. People can't afford it and are dropping insurance and going to health shares. The dominoes will fall.
