Professor Against Trump in Impeachment Trial Spent Elul Zman in Lakewood

Harvard Law Professor Noah Feldman, a witness for the Democrats impeachment inquiry against president Trump, spent a few days in Lakewood yeshiva for Elul zman in 2013 at the Bais Aaron Bais Medrash . He tweeted a photo of the yeshiva (see below)  Though he has written articles critical of Yiddishkeit against frum Jews and the Modern orthodox schools he went to, he wrote a more favorable article in Bloomberg news about his experience in BMG  "Where Jewish Life Thrives in America"

But BMG matters. It matters for the future of Jews in America precisely because it matters for the future of Judaism in America. By privileging ideas and thought over identity, it proudly stakes out a position of genuine durability "Only 5 percent of BMG alumni become congregational rabbis. And 25 percent become educators. The rest are engaged in study for its own sake. They will enter the workforce when they are done; armed with skills of logic, formal reasoning and a type of critical thinking, they largely succeed after training in a professional field or going directly into business. "

Tonight in Chutz Laaretz ותן טל ומטר לברכה

Tonight Thursday evening December 5th 2019  Yidden in Chutz Laaretz begin to say ותן טל ומטר לברכה in Shmoneh esrei. Since this coming year will be a civil leap year it is said on December 5th instead of the 4th.
Tal umatar in chutz Laaretz is said 60 days after the tekufa which is September 23.

in the 20th century – the day which would have been September 23 according to the Julian (Shemuel’s) calendar is October 7 of the Gregorian calendar, and the 60th day following October 7 is December 5. Since we begin Tal U-Matar during the Ma’ariv service, it turns out to be said beginning with the night of December 4. Every fourth year, however (in the Jewish year divisible by four), the Tekufah will begin after tzeis ha-kokhavim on October 7, so the 60th day on those years will be December 6, and Tal U-Matar will commence on the evening of December 5.

Halachos if one forgets to say during the winter:

Rabbi Yaakov Perlow, Novominsker Rebbe and Rosh Agudas Yisroel, noted that in certain ways Klal Yisroel’s growth is phenomenal. “There are more bochurim and yungerleit learning in Lakewood today than in all the pre-war yeshivos of Lita put together.” This was echoed by Rabbi Moshe Tuvia Lieff, Rav of Agudas Yisroel Bais Binyomin, in the Shabbos Mini-Keynote, who shared the podium with R’ Sholom Kamenetsky, Rosh Yeshiva Talmudical Yeshiva of Philadelphia, in a session chaired by Rabbi Yeruchim Silber, Director of New York Government Relations for the Agudah. In that session, Rabbi Lieff noted that Klal Yisroel has grown, in both Gashmius and Ruchnius, It should fill us with pride to be ehrliche yidden, he said, and if we can show that pride in our homes and to our children, it will help us raise the next generation to even greater heights.
