Once again some of the Lakewood newspapers have published advertisements of special deals for Superbowl parties this coming Sunday. Its not the first time, as these ads were already running previous years but the ads have gotten much more brazen. While in previous years there was an attempt to hide and hint to it, that is no longer the case. The ads now scream Super Sunday specials listing finger food, buffalo wings for the big game. One store only called it "super specials" cleverly camouflaging their ad that went into all the papers. The issue is not about following sports but its about making it Kosher like its a Jewish event.
A sign of the changing demographics of Lakewood. Years ago you couldn't get a Hashgacha if there was a seating area it was take out only, now you can advertise for the superbowl and be proud of it.

Article in Mishpacha about Rabbi Mordechai Berg a"h from Monsey
Are you happy with the changing demographic that is causing Lakewood to grow farther and farther from the vision of R' Aaron? Bchiya L'doros as the veteran Lakewooders are also moving outwards being led by the outsiders who have been koneh shvus in town.
ReplyDeleteThis is worse than sports it's going to a level of chukas hagoyim and a chillul Hashem of how low klal yisroel has stooped.
ReplyDeleteIf we want mashiach to come and the tzaros to come to a halt them we need to live up to it and show Hashem that we are ready and are YEARNING for Mashiach. Sadly that is not the case today. (I'm sure if your child really yearned for something you would get it for him. At the relationship of love from a father to son. So does Hashem love each his as a child from a father to son)
Lakewood ir Hatorah should be embarrassed from other from communities who don't publish these ads in their local papers. Parents work so hard to keep outside influences from their homes and you get these free weeklies delivered to your door for kids to read.
ReplyDeleteParents who work so hard to keep outside influences from their homes have long ago stopped receiving the weeklies.
DeleteLakewood is NOT Ihr Hatorah. Until you get that through your head you’re going to be riddled with anxiety. A Rav and a leader needs to be conscious of actual facts not fantasies.
DeleteThis is what Lakewood is. It’s become the capital of gashmius. Stop already with this Ihr Hatorah fantasy. It’s ridiculous.
And no New York doesn’t look anything like Peter Stuyvesant imagined it to grow either. The works is in constant flux and inky those in tune with reality will accomplish anything.
i beg to differ with you LKWD IS IR HATORAH but its definitely changed and evolved over the years
Deletebut you still have the largest yeshiva in the world with the largest number of yungerleit who devote their lives as well as their families being raised bedachkus in order for them to continue learning full time
yes their are many who have moved here or stayed here after leaving yeshiva and some may even watch a game but it doesnt take away from the fact that a sizable amount of our kehilla DEVOTE THEIR LIVES TO FULL TIME TORAH STUDY
for you to come and say forget it lkwd isnt ir hatorah your the one who is living in fantasy please walk into any of the lkwd botei medrash full of bochurim and yungerleit learning behsmodo rabba toiling and swimming in the yam hatalmud
perhaps its time for you to see what lkwd is really all about
the rest is all "suviv lamachne" sure those who arent involved in learning torah full time will need their restaurants, shopping and game specials
but it doesnt take away from the 1000's who are living a life of ruchnious and dont need the gashmeiuos being sold and advertised
these corrupt politicians & VAAD people etc... with the builders are what changed this town from being a city to only come to if you are ready to devote yourself to a life of simplicity & torah-which is now the city of cleveland-if the rabbonim & leaders would have remained strong keeping like Rav Aharon ZT"L did with no fancy restaurants & gourmet exquisite clothing stores THEN YES LAKEWOOD TODAY WOULD STILL BE A IHR HATORAH & if anyone would want these fantasy's they would need to move to 5 towns or brooklyn etc....
DeleteBUT THESE JEWISH CORRUPT PEOPLE LET THE GELT$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ GET THE BETTER OF THEM "kesef yaaneh es hakol".... they will need to face Hashem & answer for a destructive impure city today.
watched the purity leave the lakewood city slowly year by year..... welcome to Sedom NJ
If these ads were run in Monsey, the offending publication and businesses would be put in cheirim...
ReplyDeleteThen again the midwinter mishigas is scheduled not to conflict with the SB
The Amudim video on the scoop and other websites is even worse. No reason kids had to be exposed to a video that even TV shows would not show.
ReplyDeleteThe reality is that kids do look at the frum news websites.
Nor do we have to see patients on stretchers lying in the street.
DeleteIt's all about money and clicks no morals.
Right . And you really think the language used on this, and other so called heimish blogs is,really good chinuch for our kids?
ReplyDeleteThere's a big difference between a paper that's supposed to be kosher and family oriented vs the Internet specifically blogs.
ReplyDeleteA blog that is not good chinuch gir children ,has no business complaining about others in this respect
ReplyDeleteEveryone's happy with the ads for all types of luxuries, for everything from groceries to fur coats to houses. But that's ok because it's hymishe gashmiyus.
ReplyDeleteBut we must put our foot down on superbowl ads, because that's non-hymishe gashmiyus.
feh.
very good point
DeleteYou're wrong is chikas hagoy to make a sideh
DeleteEither watching/following the game is also chukos hagoyim or else none of it is. If you hold the game isn't because its an enjoyable thing not an unknown reason so we not choshesh for avoda zara, the party is the same thing its just something to have fun. I'm not saying its a good thing I think it is 'mius' but that doesn't make it assur
DeleteThe problems has nothing to do with gashmiyes
ReplyDeleteI was Zoiche to hear Rabbi Berg zt"l speak a few times when I visited his shul. He was a supremely honest and true talmid chochom. His sincerity and knowledge was palpable when he spoke.
ReplyDeleteI will never forget a speech he gave once. He was asking his shul to please give to the Kupas Tzedaka that helps struggling members of the shul that come to the Rov for help. He reminded his members that we are required to help our neighbors first, before giving to charities outside our community.
He said that we all know that "poverty will never be eradicated from the earth". We know that hashem made it that there will always be poor people. And since there needs to be poor people, When one dies he must be replaced. He then said it is therefore in a rich persons best interest to make sure that he take care of our poor, lest they die and maybe they will be replaced by him.
Rabbi Berg was a future gadol and unfortunately we weren't zoiche to have him guide us for very long.
