Camps close Registration While Kids Still have No School for Next Year

Mid February, the local summer camps are in full registration mode for the summer of 2018. Some camps already closed registration and there are no slots left. The local papers came out with their camp sections forcing all camps to open registration. Another pressure parents must face rushing to sign up their children before registration is full. The system of competing and chapping before yenem continues to plague us. What is more sad though is that many children are still not accepted into a school for the upcoming year. How do these parents feel waiting daily for answers or hoping to get in somewhere while their neighbor is already enrolled in day camp. Yes camps need time to plan but it should not be before the school registration is complete with every child having a school to go to.
Camps should open registration after Pesach.

  1. If people would pay for school tuition like they pay for camp then we would have many more schools with smaller classes and no issues .

  2. Unfortunately there are parents who pay more fir a childs 2 months in summer camp than yhey pay for tuition . People haggle to get the lowest tuition ,but for camp they pay whatever is asked .

  3. They don't really have a choice not that they get much choice with regard to tuition either.

  4. what does one have to do with the other , camps are camps and serve a need in the summer, schools serve us 10 -11 months a year and the challenge of acceptance etc.. is real but has nothing to do with registering for camp, if your neighbors register for camp that doesn't effect you in any wy

  5. The schools are billing for a 12 month cycle and give service for only 10 months so really the schools should provide the summer program which is billed regardless. People have no choice they have to place the kids somewhere since the parents have jobs to cover their tuitions plus camp fees

  7. The schools bill you for 12 months instead of 10 to make it easier for you to pay. And you you really think that they owe you 12 months worth of services?

    1. Many people think that the schools should pay them for the privilege of having their kids attend .
