Lakewood Committee votes on Municipal Budget tax Increase

The Lakewood township committee (Only 3 members were present) voted on a tax increase with the 2019 Municipal budget an increase of $48 dollars for every $100,000 of assessed property value. This is only for the municipal portion of your tax bill which is about 30% of  your bill the other 50%  goes to school tax and the rest for  fire tax and county tax.
The BOE Raised taxes as well this year.
See Video replay HERE
Officials said there was a $5 Million shortfall from last year, and refuted the claim that more housing means more taxes for services. They admittedly could have raised taxes last year but it would have been minimal (a resident asked if it was done so the committeeman who ran for office last year can say they did not raise taxes.)

To see how much your taxes went up for the municipal portion:
Divide your assessed home value by 100 than times that number by the new mill rate which is .6402 (last years was .592)
For example a home assessed at $500,000 divide it by 100 which is 5,000. Now times 5000 by .6402

Home assessed at $100,000 you will pay an additional $48 for a total of $640 that you will pay in taxes this just for the municipal portion.

$200,000 you will pay an additional $96 for a total of $1280
$300,000 you will pay an additional $144 for a total of $1920
$400,000 you will pay an additional   $192   for a total of $2560
$500,000 you will pay an additional   $241  for a total of  $3201
$600,000 you will pay tan additional  $289 a total of   $3841
$700,000 you will pay an additional $337 for a total of $4481

Matzav.com Update on Flag story "Rumors Swirling"

Matzav  exclusive report : An Israeli flag outside the South Side Sandwich Shop in Lakewood, NJ is still flying above the store on Cedar Bridge Avenue, despite efforts to  take the flag down.

Matzav.com confirmed that claims that the KCL would pull its hashgacha from the establishment if the store did not adhere to the request are false. “The KCL agency would not pull one’s supervision for this reason,” the source confirmed, refuting claims on websites and social media to the contrary. “Rumors are swirling, and they are all false. No one bothered corroborating them.”

In addition, those opposed to the flying of the flag, Matzav.com confirmed, are not “anti-Zionists,” per se, as they’ve been painted on social media and the web, but felt, as mentioned before, that being located in an area of bnei Torah, the flag was better left not flown in front of the popular smokehouse.

Tax Increase Vote on 2019 Lakewood Municipal Budget

Lakewood Township committee will have a public hearing and vote on the 2019 municipal budget tomorrow night, with a 3.5% increase over last year's final appropriations. The tax rate, for every $100 your home is assessed, will increase from $0.592 to $0.6402. In simple words, this will increase the "average" home assessed at $500,000 by $250 this year, to cover the municipal portion, not the school and other taxes.

The township anticipates a surplus of $19 Million dollars toward the budget despite the tax increase.

New construction and additions from last year added $233,615,743 in assessed  property values and new ratables brought revenue of $1,383,434 to the tax rolls.

The Municipal budget is at $95 Million dollars and $64.5 million will be raised by taxation.

Agudath Israel Commends US Support for Israel’s Self-Defense

STATEMENT FROM AGUDATH ISRAEL OF AMERICA

Hamas has fired 600 rockets into Israel from Gaza since the start of the Jewish Sabbath. Three Israelis have been killed and 131 Israeli civilians are being treated for injuries. The rockets have hit a kindergarten, a factory, and homes. Hundreds of thousands of Israelis are in shelters.
The Israeli airstrikes to defend its citizenry from indiscriminate aggression by bloodthirsty sworn enemies is the legitimate response of any responsible government.
We mourn the loss of life and offer our prayers for the injured and the traumatized.

We commend the Trump Administration’s support of Israel’s right, and duty, to defend its territory and its populace.
