Article: Lakewood youth boom forcing New Jersey to think a bout the future
A lesson for the rest of the country
The case of Lakewood is, in many ways, a laboratory for the future of other American cities that will see similar patterns in the coming decades. Localities like Spring Valley, New York or even some growing areas in Texas are closely watching how this city manages the pressure on its resources. Lakewood’s ability to maintain social cohesion while dealing with sustained demographic growth is, arguably, its greatest achievementù
Satmar account on X frew criticism from comments after they initially met with Mamdani as a candidate.
"We're horrified by @NYCMayor Mamdani’s decision to veto Intro 175, legislation that would have mandated clear safety plans around our schools and Yeshivas. Our children’s safety should always be a top priority! This veto clearly doesn’t defend rights! It puts the safety of every student in NYC in harm’s way."

ReplyDeleteWe need an Estihana here!
ReplyDeleteAll this talk about Lakewood having the youngest population and a high birth rate doesn’t reflect the reality on the ground. Many young couples who are having children are living in basements or small rental apartments, and after 7–10 years they move out. Lakewood is no longer affordable for a growing family to live in and buy a home. Its infrastructure is already stretched to the limit, and the town is essentially maxed out.
ReplyDeleteA large number of primary school–aged children connected to Lakewood families are actually living in Jackson and other nearby towns. What’s likely to happen is that government funding will continue to be directed toward Lakewood because of the statistics, but in reality, that support isn’t reaching or helping the families who are increasingly moving out.
Lakewood in unaffordable. Coventry used to be a good starter home and now they go for $400k. Duplex 1.1 million. Not sure how anyone is paying the mortgage, tuition , food , utilities car insurance.
