- The suspect in the shooting outside the White House Correspondents' Dinner, told law enforcement following his arrest that he wanted to shoot Trump administration officials, two sources told CBS News.

-D.C. Police Chief Jeffery Carroll said “an individual charged a Secret Service checkpoint” at the White House Correspondents' Dinner armed with a shotgun, hand gun, and multiple knives. He said the suspect was not hit by gunfire but was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated. Police said they believe the man, a 31 year old from Torrance, CA, was registered as a guest of the hotel.
Jeanine Pirro, the D.C. U.S. attorney, said the suspect is being charged with two counts, using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon.
Pirro said the arraignment is Monday and more charges could follow.

-President Trump evacuated from White House correspondents dinner after a shooter charged the magnetometer closed to the front door at the White House Correspondents Dinner at thקe Washington hotel and shot at a uniformed Secret Service agent. Secret Service returned fire. Conflicting reports as to the condition of the shooter.
The suspect in the attempted assassination of President Trump has been identified as 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen, from Torrance, California.
Trump wrote on truth social: Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely. The shooter has been apprehended, and I have recommended that we “LET THE SHOW GO ON” but, will entirely be guided by Law Enforcement. They will make a decision shortly. - Lakewood Yeshiva Bais Medrash Govoha buildings off 7th st were briefly evacuated early shabbos morning around 10:00am after a man made some sort of threat. Lakewood police ordered everyone out of the Yoshon bais medrash who were in middle of mussaf and another minyan was taking place downstairs. Mispalelim continued the tefilos in neighboring shuls while police with K-9 swept the building and found no credible threats or danger. The building was cleared, and the suspect was taken into custody and the bais nedrash was opened again. No official statement hava been released by authorities.

I remember when Rav Ovadia was giving a shiur in Lakewood and the Satmar chevra called in a bomb scare. Rav Schneur was livid!
ReplyDeleteIt was actually much more complicated than that. The yeshiva would never allow a rav harashi רב הראשי speak. But r shach called r shneur and asked to make an exception for r' ovadyah because he was potential, and he can accomplish a lot. He did mention some hashkofas... In the end he was invited to speak in the dining room. Which wasn't the same as the bais medrash. (Today it's different the dining room is very large and is used whenever we have a huge gathering and there's not enough room in the beis medrash). There were those that cut the microphone in middle of the speech. (Not a bomb scare). And yes r shneur was upset, not so much what was done, but that his decision was ignored. There's more but this shall suffice
ReplyDeleteThere may have been more than one "event" but the one that I personally witnessed was a weekday and a bomb scare called in. The police arrived and Rav Schneur was red in the face and told the Satmar guys "The "Tate" had no less yiras shamayim that your Rebbi and he invited him to give a shiur in Yeshiva"! Those were his exact words.

ReplyDeleteI was there. (I was a Lakewood Cheder kid back then). It was a weekday afternoon and they let us out of class to attend. He spoke in the dining room as a compromise since there was some opposition to him speaking in Yeshiva. Satmar bused in a bunch of guys from Williamsburg, first they protested outside then they came in to the dining room and started screaming. The bochrim fought back and pushed them out. Rav Shneur Z”L went outside to try to calm things down and the Satmars attacked him and one of them even slapped him in the face.

DeleteI knew that online this would quickly be blamed on either Trump or Israel or both (as it was) but I wasn't expecting people who read hefkervelt to be so influenced by that crowd as to repeat it. I guess I held hefkervelt posters to too high of a standard.
