Railroad-crossing repairs announced
for Route 9/River Avenue in Lakewood. If your walking take Cedarbridge instead of rt 9.
Necessary safety work will require road closure and detour
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require the closure and detour of Route 9/River Avenue in Lakewood, Ocean County.
Route 9/River Avenue is scheduled to be closed to traffic in both directions at the Conrail (CSAO) Southern railroad grade crossing next to Lake Manetta, between John Street and Central Avenue / CR528 from 5 p.m. Friday, November 6, until 7 a.m. Sunday, November 8. The following detours will be in place:
Route 9 northbound
Route 9 northbound traffic will be directed to Oak Street, New Hampshire Avenue / CR623, to Ocean Avenue/ Route 88, and then back onto Route 9 northbound.
Route 9 southbound
Route 9 southbound traffic will be directed to Central Avenue / CR528 which becomes New Egypt Road, to Cross Street, and then back to Route 9 southbound.
The traffic detour will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly.
In order to provide a safer and smoother railroad crossing in Lakewood, the existing crossing will be replaced with a new concrete crossing and new asphalt approaches. This project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information
