Assemblyman Avi Schnall voted against the bill A2218 , after consulting with the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of America according to a press release sent to  frum media outlets. The official voting roll  callbhas not yet  beeen published.

Critics argued the bill is broad enough to potentially expose religious leaders, faith-based organizations, counselors, and others to legal consequences for expressing or acting on sincerely held beliefs regarding abortion or gender-transition procedures.

The New Jersey Assembly has passed A-5324, which would require certain employers to pay an annual fee for employees and their dependents who receive health insurance through the State Medicaid program. For employers with 500 or more employees, the fee would be $725 per covered individual. For example, if a business or yeshiva with 500 or more employees has 200 employees enrolled in Medicaid (with no covered dependents), it would owe $145,000 annually under the bill.

NWS Upgrades Extreme Heat Watch to Warning for Much of New Jersey

:Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Most of New Jersey Through Fourth of July Weekend. The fast of 17 Tamuz is Thursday  with temps at 104.

New Jersey is bracing for what forecasters say could be the state's most intense heat wave in 15 years, with the National Weather Service issuing an Extreme Heat Warning for much of the state from noon Wednesday through 8 p.m. Saturday.

The warning covers Eastern and Western Monmouth, Middlesex, Somerset, Ocean, and Southeastern Burlington counties, along with many other areas across New Jersey. Heat index values are expected to range from 100 to 110 degrees each day, with the hottest conditions forecast for Thursday and Friday.

"The intensity and length of the extreme heat will exacerbate impacts to both people and infrastructure," the National Weather Service said. Forecasters added that this could be the hottest stretch of weather the region has experienced since July 2011.

Adding to the danger, overnight temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-70s to low 80s, offering little relief and increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses over several consecutive days.

- Joint statement to PM Netanyahu and Defense Minister Katz: As part of the operation, the IDF has just destroyed the underground terror infrastructure of the Hezbollah terror organization in the Majdal Zun village area in southern Lebanon. The route, over 200 meters long and more than 25 meters deep, contained hundreds of weapons and several launch shafts intended to target the territory of the State of Israel and its citizens. Israel informed the US and the American representative in Lebanon in advance about the destruction of the infrastructure.

- The US and Iran have agreed to stop mutual attacks in the Strait of Hormuz and to hold a meeting on Tuesday in Doha

Extreme Heat Watch Issued as Dangerous Heat Coincides With Fast of 17 Tammuz

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for Ocean County and surrounding areas from Wednesday afternoon through motzei shabbos, warning that dangerously hot conditions could produce heat index values of up to 110 degrees, with the most intense heat expected Thursday and Friday. Thursday also coincides with the Fast of 17 Tammuz, when many members of the Jewish community will be fasting from 4:20 am until 9: 20pm. נחש הנחושת The International Symbol of Medicine

This weeks Parshsa discusses the נחש הנחושת.
The symbol of the serpent on a pole is used as the international symbol of medicine. It is used today in modern times as the symbol of medicine and healthcare. Commentators have interpreted the symbol to mean many different things. Some attribute it to the Rod of Asclepius of greek culture or other. However, the origin most likely comes from the נחש הנחושת the Nehushtan that we read in this weeks parshas chukas. Where hashem commands Moshe Rabbeinu to build a "serpent of bronze" that was used to heal those who looked upon it (Numbers 21:4-9).

- Vaad L’Mishmeres Shatnez recommends that all rekelach, bekeshes, and of course woolen coats, regardless of brand, be properly tested and not presumed to be free of Shatnez. The belief that these garments cannot contain Shatnez is incorrect and should not be relied upon by a Torah Jew who is careful about Shatnez. Additionally, proper guidance from qualified experts is essential, and assumptions regarding kashrus—whether in food or clothing—should not replace proper verification, oversight, and adherence to the standards required of a Torah-observant consumer.

- New Jersey American Water. A mandatory conservation notice has been issued for customers in Monmouth and Ocean Counties to reduce water usage due to ongoing drought conditions. Customers must limit all non-essential outdoor water use until further notice, including limiting outdoor watering to twice per week or less if it rains. 

- Rav Dov Landau issued a public call Thursday night urging the public not to participate in street demonstrations or protests. His remarks came just days after Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch expressed support for the nationwide protest vehicle convoy held across Israel. Rav Landau delivered the message during a gathering at his home in Bnei Brak attended by dozens of Roshei Yeshiva intended to summarize the historic fundraising trip by keren Olam HaTorah. He said "All kinds of other protests that we did not hear about from our rebbeim Zatzal in previous generations are not our way,, "Very often these protests cause serious damage to the charedi public's image. We must remember that the most important thing is dedication, and ameilus baTorah. Strengthening Limud haTorah within the bais medrash is what will help counter these decrees and difficulties."

- Lakewood schools tried to stop New Jersey from taking it over on Wednesday.

In front of Administrative Law Judge Susan Scarola, Lakewood school board attorney Joshua Forsman sought to have the intervention halted in the first hearing related to the state Department of Education's hostile takeover of the school district. At yesterday's Lakewood Township Committee meeting, routine business was conducted, with the most noticeable change being Mayor Ray Coles' new beard. There were no public comments. The committee defended its continued use of virtual meetings, highlighting that Committeeman Menashe Miller was able to participate remotely from Germany while on military assignment.

The meeting did not address the possibility of adopting a hybrid format holding meetings in person while allowing remote participation via Zoom a model used by many neighboring municipalities. Critics argue that Lakewood's continued reliance on virtual meetings has limited public accessibility since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Iran Israel Updates Friday June 26

- Senior US official: The US military is striking Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz 

- CENTCOM announced that they attacked Iranian missile and drone storage sites and command centers.

- Israel and Lebanon have reached a framework agreement for the IDF to begin partially withdrawing from southern Lebanon, a source familiar with the matter tells The Times of Israel. 

Israeli forces will pull out of two areas located inside the six-mile-long buffer zone the IDF has established in southern Lebanon. The Israeli troops will be replaced by members of the Lebanese forces, the source says.

- Major Diplomatic Breakthrough: The trilateral framework constitutes a major achievement for Israel, which completely rejects Iran's attempt to force a unilateral withdrawal from southern Lebanon and denies Iran and Hezbollah any role whatsoever in Lebanon. Following a long negotiation between the US, Israel, and Lebanon, representatives of the three countries signed a trilateral working framework aimed at leading to future agreements between Israel and Lebanon in order to end the conflict between the countries and reach a peace settlement. Israel will maintain its security zone along the Yellow Line border in Lebanon until the day Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations in Lebanon are disarmed and no longer pose a threat from Lebanon to the territory of the State of Israel.

- PM Netanyahu Announces Lebanon Security Agreement right before Shabbos 

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that negotiations in Washington between Israel, Lebanon, and the United States have resulted in a new security arrangement.

According to Netanyahu, Israel's key achievement is maintaining its security zone in southern Lebanon, which will remain in place as long as Hezbollah remains armed and continues to pose a threat. He also described the agreement as a significant setback for Iran, saying Israel, Lebanon, and the U.S. made clear that Tehran has no role in Lebanon through Hezbollah or any other terrorist organization. As part of the agreement, the Lebanese Army will begin taking control of two pilot areas on the recommendation of the IDF—one south of the Litani River and another in a limited area north of the Litani that the IDF says is no longer operationally necessary. Netanyahu stressed that Israel will continue to enforce its original security zone beyond the range of anti-tank missiles and will not allow Hezbollah or civilians to enter it, concluding: "Israel's security comes first."

- Trump accuses Iran of foolishly  firing 4 drones at ships in Hormuz. 

Trump: The Islamic Republic of Iran shot at least four One Way Attack Drones at Ships transversing the Strait of Hormuz. One of the Drones solidly hit the upper deck of a large and very expensive Cargo Carrying Ship. Damage was done, but the Ship was able to proceed on its way. We knocked down three other Drones. - Bloomberg: Oman has informed European parties that there is no possibility of returning to the pre-war situation in the Strait of Hormuz, and that ships passing through the strait may be required to pay tolls.

- Iranian media: A "communication line" has been established between Iran and the US in the Strait of Hormuz.

- An Iranian source told the New York Times that Tehran is furious with Oman for allowing ships to pass through an alternative route in the Strait of Hormuz without coordinating with the IRGC. In response, Iran launched a drone at a ship in the strait to damage the passage and completely halt maritime traffic in the area.

-Four IDF soldiers, including two officers, were injured in a clash with a Hezbollah terrorist in southern Lebanon on Thursday night, the military said Friday, as Israel and Lebanon were set for another day of direct talks in Washington.

- The Israeli Air Force struck and killed seven Hezbollah operatives in southern Lebanon this morning, after they were identified transporting weapons near Israel’s buffer zone, the military says.

- Israel Defense Minister Katz posts a response to Qanni’s threats: “The commander of Iran's Quds Force, Qaani, has recently been issuing numerous threats toward Israel. It seems the image of a collaborator suited him much better than this ridiculous barrage of threats. Either way, if Iran attacks Israel, it will be its biggest mistake yet. Here, no Hormuz or firing at the population will help it. Nothing will stop us. Our forces are prepared to finish the job.”

-Israel and Lebanon on Thursday wrapped up a third day of US-mediated negotiations in Washington without an agreement on a partial Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, although the sides agreed to extend talks for an extra day.

‘Zos Chukas HaTorah’ There is no mention in the Gemara of the week of Parshas Chukas being one of tragedy, nor is it mentioned by the Rambam, nor Tur, nor Shulchan Aruch! Not even in the Siman where tragedies and proper days to fast are mentioned, Orach Chaim 580! In fact, most are wholly unfamiliar with anything specifically attributed to this week. Yet, the Magen Avraham, citing the Sefer HaTanya, tells of a terrible, albeit fascinating, historical tragedy. on Erev Shabbos Parshas Chukas. On that day, in the year 1242, 20 wagonloads (other versions state 24) filled with Gemaros and Talmudic literature, were burned in Paris.

- Giyus: Mir  Yerushalayim Yeshiva will hold a public atzeres tefilah and protest at Kikar Zaks near Zhville this coming Sunday in response to the arrest of a bochur who is a talmid in Mir at a enlisting office in Beer Sheva when he went to arrange a deferment. The atzeres will officially be a public machaah but no other form or protest If the bochur is not released by Sunday the atzeres will proceed

The two Charedi parties have denied the existence of a deal, despite widespread reports on its details. The survey finds that 62% oppose the agreement, while just 23% support it. Organizers say landlords have been exploiting the local housing shortage, placing a heavy financial burden on kollel families. The new committee will now set and oversee rental price guidelines for kollel apartments in the area. Under the new rules, kollel or yeshiva students who rent without the committee's approval risk losing their right to study at participating yeshivos and kollelim. The notices are signed by numerous rosh yeshivas and kollel heads who say they will enforce the regulation among their talmidim
