A respomse on LinkedIn  to the Lakewood vaad member who posted about Lakewood traffic:
"I’m sorry, but I never heard of something so ridiculous in my life. Do you think that the people wasting literally hours of their lives each week are happy about the extremely poor developmental design of Lakewood, for which you surely have had some degree of influence from your position? I’m wondering how many people would agree with your sentiment were you to actually take a poll of Lakewood residents and drivers. Your statement reeks of complete disconnect at best, and of elite condescension at worst. Just remember that an election was just won by a landslide over those who tried to gaslight the masses into believing that everything bad for them was good and vice versa. People are smarter than you think."

    2. That is a very old non-Jewish quote and the way it actually goes is “It might be lonely at the top; but the view is Amazing.” If AK ever quoted it he must have meant it in the context of quoting any other famous expression or quote.

  2. Sadly the vaad did a good job manipulating public opinion especially those without access to social media and that's how they win elections using the threat of daas Torah and targeting clueless bochurim and youngeleit.
Last year they managed to get 12000 votes for a Mexican lady on to the township committee who no one In Lakewood even knows her name
She hasn't even shown up at all and some committee members and askanim have privately spoken about their dissatisfaction with her
this is how the self appointed vaad keep on playing games and fooling the tzibbur

Shame on us that we allow this to go on

    5. I work hard to pay their salaryNovember 17, 2024 at 1:14 PM

      Anon 12:26, You’re behind times.

The 5 committees men used to get approx 13K + benefits till not that long ago. But they decided to perform a service (“l’toeles harabim” of course) by voting themselves huge salary raises and bigger benefits over each of the previous few years.

There is no other town committee in the entire region that rewards themselves with anywhere near the salary level our asskanim gave themselves.

I guess they feel that they’re mamesh oisek betzarchei tzibbur with such trust and emunah that they actually deserve such a big chunk of our tzibbur’s property tax dues.

      🤮

    6. Who are they trying to foolNovember 17, 2024 at 1:26 PM

M&M are such big tzaddikim that they haven’t already awarded themselves a salary of 150K. They’re doing us all a gigantic favor by not ripping us off even more than they are.

This sounds just like the Democrat Governor of NY explaining how much of a tzadeikes she is by only forcing NJ commuters to pay a new and outrageous $9 congestion fee for the privilege of driving in Manhattan, because the mechasheifa could’ve decided to charge us $15!!

    1. Shame on you for trying to justify the rishus or perpetuating corruption ruining the town by using the name of the mashgiach to something that is totally irrelevant to what the vaad has become while it was the vaad in self admission that they were no longer respected or trusted by people in Lakewood

    1. Not at all, a vaad that represents a town must be chosen and elected by the people according to shulchan aruch
Was there a public vote by the mashgiach appointing these individuals?
Who were they appointed to represent?
Mordechai Levy the gabbai was the representative of thousands of kollel guys yet not one youngeman voted for him
A website owner was appointed by the self appointed vaad to join them does that make any sense??

This vaad is self appointed and never elected by the people who pay taxes
vaad members never publicly disclosed their financial dealings with the township when leaving phone calls telling taxpayers who to vote for.

The vaad was for the Yeshiva not for the town
The only thing they can do is resign in shame
And BTW why don't they listen to the roshei yeshiva in regard to Chemed
They only play daas Torah when is suits them??

  7. The shtik shown by saying 'Mashgiach zatzal' is well-spun.

This 'mashgiach zatzal' could be Reb Yeruchem Levovitz, Reb Nosson Wachtfogel, Reb Yehuda Jacobs, or Reb Matisyahu Salomon. Then again, it could be Reb Hersh Feldman, Reb Elya Goldschmidt, or Reb Yankel Cohen.

The word 'created' is another meaningless word. What did this nameless mashgiach do? How does that make their actions his decisions?

And was it done בהסכמת חכמי העיר? Were the great Talmidei Chachamim of town consulted? If not, why should we care for any of these mashgichim?

    All part ofa day's propaganda.

  9. I don't care if it was moshe rabbenu who created the vaad. The question is whether their endorsements are ltoeles hatzibur or not. As they are not everything else, including if they were originally or currently backed by "daas torah" is irrelevant.

  11. Very related to this conversation is an article by Yaakov Wenger in this past week's Lakewood Shopper, where he stands up for the kavod of the Lakewood Rabbonim, who have not endorsed or been involved in the selection of the candidates that the Vaad told the entire Lakewood to vote for, but their name is being used as if they have given an endorsement.

I cannot agree more with his article. I wish there was a way to help the broader Lakewood community get the real truth on the Vaad's independent endorsement of candidates.

We are paying way too high property taxes, which does end up also causing higher rentals for young couples (and their parents that support them!), and inflation of prices in many local businesses due to their increases taxes and rentals.

Which Rav would not want to support those new BOE candidates and Reb Aaron Lang who is working tirelessly to help Lakewood get its fair share of funding to lower all our taxes?

I also question which Rabbonim are actually aware of the lack of governance in this town, where the roads are a mess and we are missing so many basic side streets that cause way way too much traffic on the main roads and so much wasted time. The zoning laws are not enforced, paper streets are discarded, and the planning board is run by friends of the developers that help them build with waivers such as narrower streets, less parking, less thru streets etc, saving the developers' money at Lakewood's long term expenses. Which sensible Rav isn't open to bringing in new voices and ideas into the Lakewood community given the many issues in this town!

It was completely misleading and lack of ehrlichkeit (maybe sheker!) for the Vaad to send out a mailing to the Lakewood community as well as to all students of Lakewood schools to vote in the incumbents saying that they are giving over the daas torah of the Lakewood rabbonim on who we should vote for. Most of the Lakewood community blindly voted for whomever was on that paper, as I saw many people bring it with them to the polls. They simply have no idea.
