After getting knocked over in a windstorm a new bus shelter was replaced at tenth and Madison near the Aisle 9 supermarket in Lakewood. Cost was $4,450 paid by insurance to the township.

Route 9 expansion, not so fast

A meeting was held last week in Lakewood attended by officials from the State, NJTPA, Local township, BMG administration, and the Voice of Lakewood. The local residents will first have an opportunity to give their advice and recommendations at a meeting planned for July, once the plan has already been recommended.  Several recommendations were made by officials who do not live or reside in Lakewood, among them providing Left turn lanes along Rt 9, diverting traffic to Cedar bridge and have RT 9 be a one way street for the stretch of roadway parallel to Cedarbridge Avenue. Alexander Rebbe came by Helicopter to Lakewood

The Alexander Rebbe from Eretz Yisrael arrived in the US on Lag Baomer at JFK airport. The Rebbe was on his way to a chasuna in Lakewood where he was to be mesader kiddushin. Since the Chupah was to take place before shkiah and time was short, a Helicopter awaited the Rebbe upon his arrival and he made it to Lakewood in time for the chupah. The Rebbe will be in the US for a few weeks.

Justice Dept investigating Toms River zoning laws

APP  reports The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating Toms River’s zoning laws affecting religious land uses, including the Board of Adjustment’s requirement that a rabbi obtain a use variance to continue operating his Church Road home as a house of worship.

“Our investigation will focus on the Township’s zoning laws affecting religious land uses,” Sameena Shina Majeed, acting chief of the Justice Department’s Housing and Civil Enforcement Section, wrote in an April 28 letter to Mayor Thomas F. Kelaher. “We are also reviewing, as part of our investigation, the Township’s requirement that Rabbi Moshe Gourarie obtain a use variance in order to engage in religious worship and educational activities at 2001 Church Road.”

Rav Rabinowitz previously served as menahel of Yeshiva Ner Yisroel in Toronto. About a decade and a half ago, he moved to Lakewood, where he assumed the position of menahel at Keren Hatorah, which is led by his brother, Rav Mendel Rabinowitz.

Lakewood BOE to vote on new busing pilot plan could cost another $4 million

APP reports the pilot plan  which was introduced to give the private schools more control of the entitled busing could end up costing more.  LAKEWOOD - Legislation meant to ease Lakewood’s chronic busing woes could cost the school district an extra $4 million or more per year, district officials say. 
The analysis, which one legislator disputes, coincides with mounting local opposition to a pair of bills introduced in April that would give local Orthodox Jewish yeshivas and other private schools greater autonomy to work out transportation arrangements for their own students — using public funds.

(my alma mater where I received my first Rabbinic ordination.)It was particularly wonderful to introduce the guys to the Rosh Hayeshiva, Rabbi Yeruchem Olshin who officiated at our wedding nearly 18 years ago! After having seen him once since 2000 he remembered me by name despite being dean of a Yeshiva of nearly 7,000 students! We also had lunch with a great visionary, Rabbi Aron Kotler, President of the Yeshiva. We are returning to Plano physically exhausted, spiritually enriched, inspired and having bonded as a group of not just friends but as nine brothers!!

Summer Zman begins

Residents enjoyed the quiet as being hazmanim comes to an end, now the hustle and bustle returns as the Ihr Hatorah begins the new zman. Bochurim and Kollel guys will be returning to the shtender in their respective Yeshivos. The sweet sounds of Torah learning will be heard in the Various bote medrashim throughout Lakewood. The fsmous chavrusah tumul begins in BMG Monday morning.

An Atzeres zikaron will take place this evening commemerating the 10th Yartzheit of the Rosh Yeshiva of Beer Yaakov  Harav Moshe Shmuel Shapiro Zatzal. It will take place at the Bais Hamedrash at 613 Madison Avenue, Lakewood, NJ at 8:30 pm.

Two Lakewood health clinics receive $1.4 Million in awards program

Health Infrastructure Investment Program Awards to NJ 6 awards totaling $4,780,203 to serve a projected 23,531 additional patients. Of the 6, two are located in Lakewood. $1,000,000 going to (LRRC) Lakewood  Resource and Referral Center and $430,203 to (OHI) Ocean Health Initiatives. click HERE for more. The money is for facility renovation, expansion, or construction. Health centers will use this funding to increase their patient capacity and to provide additional comprehensive primary and preventive health services to medically underserved populations.

TD Bank sued over penny-pinching counting machines

NJnews12  ROSELAND - Penny Arcades, the popular coin-counting service available at TD Bank, are now the focus of a nationwide class-action lawsuit.

The suit was filed last week and argues that coins were inaccurately counted and customers were short-changed when using the machines. The suit also argues that TD Bank officials knew or should have known about the problem. Bruce Nagel, the attorney who filed the suit, says that he estimates that thousands of people were affected by this case. He estimates that the damages will be tens of millions of dollars because the Penny Arcades pro TD Bank released a statement that said in part, "We have launched an
