40 dogs rescued from abandoned Lakewood home

LAKEWOOD - Rescue crews found 40 dogs in an abandoned home on Spruce Street in Lakewood Thursday. According to rescue group Husky House, the dogs were found inside a house that was covered in feces and urine. They say Hazmat crews even found some dogs living in the walls of the building. The owners of the home have not been found. The dogs are being taken to a veterinarian to be examined.
 Update from Husky House
Today's rescue mission began early in the afternoon and continues as we speak. The dogs Husky House rescued from the Lakewood hoarding house are currently being bathed and shaved to help get rid of their terrible matting. This is likely to continue into the morning hours. They will be seen by our veterinary specialists tomorrow for full work-ups. People may have treated them poorly in the past, but they will never know anything but love and respect from this moment forward. A big thank you goes out to everyone that jumped in with Lorraine when we put out the SOS call. Thank you to the first few people who went into the home this afternoon before everyone else got there, truly not knowing what was ahead of them, but knowing that the dogs needed their help. Thank you to our volunteers who sprung into action to take care of our pups already at our facility. Thank you to two AMAZING groomers who dropped EVERYTHING to get to Husky House immediately to try and provide some relief to the dogs. We will post updates as they become available. Our selfless volunteers are some of the best people around!
