This year, the first day of Pesach falls on Sunday, which means that Erev Pesach falls on Shabbos. This changes many Pesach observances. Below is a simplified guide to the practices of Erev Pesach that falls on Shabbos.

Thursday

Since Erev Pesach is Shabbos, the fast of Taanis Bechoros is pushed earlier, to Thursday. A bechor or the father of a minor bechor is obligated to fast on Thursday, but he can discharge his obligation by making or attending a siyum. They balance demanding jobs with growing families.

They’re up early for minyan, racing through traffic, juggling meetings, bills, bedtime, and Daf Yomi.

And they’re not doing it for applause — because there usually isn’t any.

There’s no plaque, no public recognition.

Just quiet perseverance. A daily grind that takes everything they’ve got.

And on top of it all — they carry the pressure of frum life:

Yeshiva tuition, Yom Tov, expectations, and a constant feeling that you have to keep up.

They do the utmost hishtadlus — pushing themselves to the limit — and many still get paid far less than what their effort is truly worth.

It’s a heavy load. And not everyone talks about it. But we should.

Because these are the real warriors.

The ones who keep showing up, even when no one thanks them.

Who stay committed to their values, even when the system doesn’t make it easy.

They pray with deep trust in Hashem, believing that their every action is supported by His boundless care and direction, knowing that He desires only the best for them.

They don’t make headlines.

But they deserve our deepest respect.

This year 5785, the first day of Pesach falls on Sunday, which means that Erev Pesach falls on Shabbos. This changes many Pesach observances. Below is a simplified guide to the practices of Erev Pesach that falls on Shabbos.

Thursday

Since Erev Pesach is Shabbos, the fast of Taanis Bechoros is pushed earlier, to Thursday. A bechor or the father of a minor bechor is obligated to fast on Thursday, but he can discharge his obligation by making or attending a siyum. If attending a siyum is not a viable option because of COVID safety concerns, please consult with your LOR (=local Orthodox rabbi) as to whether you can attend a siyum online.

The mobile payment app Zelle no longer allows users to send and receive money transfers. However, the platform's services remain available. Person-to-person money transfers are no longer available through the Zelle standalone mobile app.

Users must be enrolled in one of the "more than 2,200 banks and credit unions" that offer Zelle to utilize the platform.

- Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ) has reintroduced legislation aimed at easing the financial burden of K–12 education for families in New Jersey and across the country. His bill, the Education Achievement and Opportunity Act (HR 2097), would provide substantial tax relief to parents seeking to send their children to the school of their choice.

HR 2097 proposes a tax credit of up to $10,000 per child per year to help cover the cost of tuition and fees for students enrolled in Jewish, private, parochial, religious, charter, or public schools through 12th grade. In addition, up to $1,500 of the total credit could be used for education-related expenses such as computers, software, books, tutoring, special needs services, transportation, and academic testing.

The full tax credit would be available to individuals earning up to $75,000 annually and couples earning up to $150,000. Above these thresholds, the credit would gradually phase out by $50 for every additional $1,000 in income.
