Seminary Acceptance Letters sent, uncertainty Remains Re; Vaccines, Deposits
The Seminaries in Eretz Yisroel sent acceptance letters yesterday to girls in 12th grade who applied for the 2021-202 school year. Parents have to sign up and register right away as well as put down a heft deposit. The question is will the seminaries even be open next year lots can change over the next 5 months.
Of concern to some parents is the policy regarding vaccinations as they are fearful of vaccinating their young daughters with limited data available to side effects. Will Israel demand that only those vaccinated may enter the country via a verified green passport will seminaries demand it? will the airlines demand it?
Parents are also worried about putting down hefty deposits with no guarantee that the seminaries will be fully open. The seminaries have so far not given any information to address these concerns and parents are pressured to make a decision.

Court Issues Ruling on Lang Lawsuit For Lakewood Funding
Today the court in NJ released its decision in the Lakewood school funding case. Reb Aaron Lang, an attorney, musmach of BMG and math teacher in the Lakewood school district has single handedly filed a lawsuit going back to 2014 to get more funding for Lakewood students from the state. Due to the current funding formula Lakewood is not considered poor or an abbott district and only gets aid based on the 6000 public school students ratio to the total tax ratebles of the township and does not factor in the costs and expenses of the non public students such as special education and transportation.
Aaron Lang on Twitter: We have an unusual situation in which the judge ruled that the education in Lakewood does not meet the constitutional standard which is a big victory, yet the funding formula is nonetheless constitutional.
The ruling denied that the funding formula is unconstitutional but agreed that Lakewood cannot provide a Thorough and Efficient education to the public school students. In the findings the ruling noted that the population growth in Lakewood has made it unsustainable for the school district and that the district has been given recommendations by both the DOE and the State auditor for reigning in transportation and special education costs and by voting to remove the cap on property taxes. It mentioned appointed a State monitor to oversee the school district’s financial operations and to operate with a balanced budget. The continuation of State aid advances as an unreliable source of funding, and the obligation to reimburse the State over time, have contributed to the situation, as the school district’s financial problems persist, and unrestrained growth continues in the Township.

-Rep. Andy Kim (D-NJ) has signed on as a co-sponsor of a controversial piece of legislation that would likely erode protections for religious traditionalists and advance a key priority for social progressives. The legislation passed the House of Representatives last week. The most concerning aspect of the bill to advocates of religious liberty is its stripping away of legal protections that have shielded traditional practitioners whose faith is in conflict with certain progressive social trends.(Hamodia)
-Senate version of stimulus bill may lower threshold for eligibility to receive $1,400 stimulus checks. The House-passed version included $1,400 checks for individuals making up to $75,000 and couples filing jointly making up to $150,000. Those were the same thresholds in the first two rounds of stimulus payments. Senators of both parties have discussed better targeting the payments to lower income individuals by reducing the threshold for receiving any checks. The current proposal would phase out the checks for individuals making between $75,000 and $100,000, and couples making between $150,000 and $200,000.
