Briskers saying tehilim? At the kosel? Who ever heard of such a thing! The last holdout is going chasidish! Oyvey!
ReplyDeleteSince when do Briskers not say tehilim or daven at the kosel?
DeleteBrisk was always into saying tehillim
DeleteThe Brisker Rav was known for completing tehillim whenever he felt it was a eis tzarah.
The minhag in brisk is to go to the kosel, but stay at the back of the plaza. No one here is changing any mesora.
The photo does not align with the answer
Deletesaying tehillim at the kosel is chasidish? are you retarded?
DeleteYour comment is Divisive and Infantile, are you a student in Lakewood,or anywhere for that matter
ReplyDeleteThey weren’t chasdish but definitely not run in the mill litvaks
ReplyDeleteHuge misconception. Are you referring to lita circa 1800 or circa 1930 with all the chillul shabbos? Each tiny subgroup tries to portray themselves as the authentic but like every other country or society they were many flavors and stripes. There is no unified belief system type or genre....
DeleteProbably starting 1900s
ReplyDeleteYeshiva movement was more influenced by German than lita
Other way around.
DeleteLitvish do not have mixed seating.
Yekkes do.
Litvish do not eat gebroxt.
Yekkes do.
Litvish do not do college.
Yekkes do.
Not really so. But Brisk was partially Central Polish than most of the others who were Northern.
DeleteThey were never as real McCoy as the Wannabees imagined
2:57
DeleteThe first, you might be correct.
The latter two however are shtus
Gebrokts they ALL are
R Z Epstein couldn't support himself in TV, he was advised to go to college.
As R Hirsch Feldman told yungeleit who didn't have support: gei tzu college
typo ALL ate
DeleteEveryone in TV (and CB, even Baltimore) went to college.
DeleteBut yekkes still go, based on the deal Rav Aharon made with Rav Schwab
You are right. Our grandparents all (99%) ate gebroxt. Even chassidim, the Chofetz Chaim, others ate.
It's really a modernishe thing.
I mean modernishe charedi thing.
DeleteWhy weren't we told about the rally beforehand? I would have gone.
ReplyDeleteICE operations are a blight on society
we need to listen to Aguda which is led by Moetzes
ReplyDeleteTroll, Westgate is more fun
DeleteLast week photo they were standing in back
ReplyDeleteHere maybe it were the few bochrim who don’t hold themselves briskers or from different yeshivos
The Hachtara of Rabbi Yecheskel Lowenthal for the Lakewood Commons Shul will take place tonight in Bnos Bracha 1665 Corporate Road West. Seuda at 7:45
ReplyDeleteThe yeshiva movement starting in Velusion failed very soon with the students protesting the need to grow a beard and payos and cut them off. Not much later most of them drifted to communism
ReplyDeleteVoluzhun had several groups of talmidim that were somewhat objectionable:
DeleteChassidim
Lapsed chassidim
Mechalleli shabbat
Tziyonim -- not objectionable, the Netziv just didn't want them promoting it in the yeshiva. Remember, the Netziv home was a Tziyoni.
Hedonists
Communists (in all its flavors)
Maskillim (in all its flavors)
Intellectuals
Poets, Artists, etc.
Oh there we go again the old trope.... The netziv was a tzioni...... Of course we all heard it all..... Yes there are some who need to have it that way
DeleteEh?? Almost Everybody within the Pale of settlement was tzioni in those the days, because official Zionism didn't exist yet.
DeleteExcept for some chasidim who were concerned with only their own little clubs
i'm sure that;s how you would like it to have been.
DeleteMr Cohen -- even outside the "Pale"
DeleteEven munkatch had major tziyonim (see the video of the Minchas Eluzur.) (For those who don't know, the ME was the leading kanoi against Zionism, even more than the Satmar Rav.)
4:31,
DeleteMunkatch was in Galicia, and not in the Pale.Cheers.
He, it should be noted, was against a lot of things. Many were almost nigh contradictory eg he was against Frankfurt
ME was Hungarian, not Galicianar.
DeleteHe wrote in his tzavaah (available online) that he never took money from anyone inappropriate. He meant Agudah.
He was vehemently against Agudah. He's turning in his grave, that his son-in-law sent his grandson to Tekz (the stereotypical Agudah yeshiva) and TV affiliate Bet Medurah Elyon
My father z"l would talk to the grandson in Hungarian, not polish. And Yiddish.
DeleteSame with the son-in-law. He was the Ljublianer Rebbe (son of the Partzover) later of Cholon and Sao Paulo, though he spoke Hungarian.
DeleteAlmost all chassidim around now outside Isreal, are only religious/non-dati at all now because they/their parents/grandparents attended non- chassidish institutions [or places like TV].
Their system had badly collapsed in the first half of the 20th century. It was always going to crash anyway.
Contra to Ami's recent revisionism of chassidus in America.
As R N Weinberg related about his father - slonimer Rebbe grandson-how difficult it was for him to send his sons to very non- chassidish institutions, he knew he had no choice.
Chassidus and those similar to them had no way to square the circle of raising new generations in the early 20th century western world.
If Only They try to be a bit honest about that
Therefore- he ain't turning in his grave. His Biggest
7:21 11:06
DeleteGood. Galicia was under Austro-Hungarian control until the Treaty of Trianon. & then it wasn't.
ps the son-in-law spoke as much polish,as hungarian
PPS the grandson's non-zionism is primarily the credit of where he attended, not ancestry
typo
DeleteBiggest nachas
The mirers and most who learned from briska rov didn’t become briskers
ReplyDeleteMost of r reb Berels talmidim also
If he was even areal brisker
Why do we choose to pattern our yeshiva's today after the original legend Yeshiva if it was such a flop???
ReplyDeletebecause only internet losers think it was a flop.
DeleteBecause part was of the greatest things that happened in centuries
ReplyDeleteAs for other aspects, we make for good reasons more noise about it than we actually follow, subtly you follow a different route. Follow "what we do, not what we say"
