The Lakewood Fire District budget is almost at 7 Million dollars annually ($6,915,734 to be exact) an increase of $300,000 from the previous year of 6.6 million. While there was $1 million spent on capital improvements in 2019, this year even though there is no improvements the budget is up due to hiring of new fire fighters. (In 2017 the budget was 4.9 Million)
Tax payers will also be asked to vote on a referendum to deny or allow allow the dept to purchase 2 fire trucks at the cost of $1.5 million (besides the budget) to replace aging fire engines. In a statement the district said the old engines have become obsolete and cost prohibitive. The project is anticipated to have a "minimal impact on the tax rate" according to the district as the old engines will be sold or traded in to offset the costs.
Some line items in the budget:
Salary and Wages $2,868,564.00
Fire Hydrants $564,000.00
Fringe Benefits $1,633,750.00
