Yes, Jewish Lives Matter

The Federalist  by Moshe Krakowski

When someone drives like a maniac on the New York streets, people shrug and say, “Well, that’s New York for you.” When a Chassid does it, it represents a legitimate concern about his community’s lack of respect for secular law. This perception of Chassidim has its roots in a type of antisemitism that has historically been the most damaging to Jews: the constant portrayal of Jews as “other” and of their ordinary human behaviors as threatening.

Last week, National Review published an appalling article by Zachary Evans about the recent wave of antisemitic violence against ultra-Orthodox Jews in and around New York City. It claimed to provide context for these attacks but was inadvertently (I hope) an exercise in victim blaming.

In response to many readers’ outraged replies, both the Review’s editors and several staff members made matters worse by refusing to acknowledge any problem with the article. The worst was this screed by Kevin Williamson accusing critics of reading the article in bad faith simply to attack National Review, as if the only thing at stake here was a petty media squabble.

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rabbi Yosef Yisroel Grossman zt”l. He was 72.
The levayah will be held at 10 a.m. at the Congregation Sons of Israel Holocaust Memorial Chapel, located at 613 Ramsey Street in Lakewood NJ. The aron will then be flown to Eretz Yisroel for kevurah on Har Hamenuchos in Yerushalayim.

Rabbi Grossman, a noted talmid chochom and longtime veteran of the kashrus field, served as a Senior Rabbinic Coordinator at the Orthodox Union and was the director of the OU’s Kosher Education Department. In that role, Rabbi Grossman was responsible for numerous kashrus educational events, such as the popular ASK OU programs, as well as publications, spreading awareness and providing guidance to tens of thousands of people over the years.

מכת ארבה Locust Swarms in East Africa

The UN has called for international help as the countries in East Africa are under Locust attack. It has been reported that millions of swarms of locusts have descended into Kenya from Somalia and Ethiopia, making it the worst outbreak of desert locusts in the region in 70 years.

Locusts will increase further as a new generation of breeding starts in the Horn of Africa. Egypt, Eritrea, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Yemen are also seeing substantial breeding activity that could see locust bands expand into swarms in the coming months

Trump May Hold Rally at Metlife Stadium this Summer

WILDWOOD, NJ — Speaking at his rally Tuesday night in South Jersey, President Donald Trump mused about speaking at MetLife Giants/Jets stadium in East Rutherford this summer.

"You know they all say Republicans can't win (in New Jersey). I say tell me why," said Trump before a crowd of tens of thousands this evening. "They said, do you want to move this to the Meadowlands? I said no, I want to do this in South Jersey. We want to be with our friends."

"But we could have filled up the Meadowlands arena two or three times. Maybe we'll do it during the summer. Should we do it during the summer?" he asked, to a roar of approval from the crowd.

Trump Unveils Mid East Peace Plan Palestinian Capital in East Yerushalayim

Hamodia/Reuters- U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday proposed the creation of a Palestinian state with a capital in Eastern Yerushalayim, dependent on Palestinians taking steps to become self-governing, in an attempt to achieve a peace breakthrough in their decades of conflict with Jerusalem will remain Israel & undivided

Under Trump’s proposed Middle East peace plan the United States will recognize Israeli communities in Yehuda and Shomron and allow for the extension of Israeli sovereignty in the Jordan Valley and all Jewish communities in the region.

However, it also calls for a four-year moratorium on building, and maintaining the status quo in areas not designated for being part of Israel in the future. All other areas, the majority of the region, would remain in their present status, with no building permitted by either side, while a process of negotiation would have time to take place.
In his remarks, Trump promised that “no Israelis or Palestinians will be uprooted from their homes.”

Super Ads Not Camouflaged Any More

From Rabbi Mordechai Berg ZTL in Mishpacha
The super ads are published again in some of the  Lakewood media. There was a policy accepted not to print any advertisements showing pictures of shaitels, No such policy has been enacted for other type of  ads.
Once again some of the  weeklies have published advertisements of special deals for Superbowl parties this coming Sunday. Its not the first time, as these ads were already running previous years but the ads have gotten much more brazen. While in previous years there was an attempt to hide and hint to it, that is no longer the case. The ads now are straight up with Super Sunday specials listing finger food, buffalo wings for the big game. No one is even trying to cleverly camouflaging their ads any more. The issue is not about following sports but its about making it Kosher like its a Jewish event.
A sign of the changing demographics of Lakewood. Years ago you couldn't get a Hashgacha if there was a seating area it was take out only, now you can advertise for the superbowl and be proud of it.
