- At last night’s meeting, the Lakewood Zoning Board approved a duplex in the Ridge area with restrictions barring exterior basement access due to traffic concerns.
A proposal to build 41 single-family homes off Prospect Street was denied for the third time. Residents from the Prospect area spoke out strongly against the application, citing ongoing and worsening traffic conditions. Some also criticized engineers who regularly testify on behalf of developments in Lakewood, arguing that past projects were approved with assurances of minimal traffic impact, despite clear evidence that congestion has significantly worsened. Board members noted the application could return if Cross Street is expanded.
The board also approved BMG’s plan for 74 homes and a school site at the Woodlake Golf Course. Due to conflicts of interest, three zoning board members recused themselves and were replaced by planning board members. Testimony indicated the homes would be individual residences, though a member of the public raised concerns about the lack of publicly available information. The board responded that plans are available at township offices.
Another duplex application off Prospect Street was tabled due to improper notice, and several smaller applications were approved.
