History Tidbit: Daf Yomi Siyum on Maseches Shekolim

Agudah's Daf Yomi Commission - A history tidbit to celebrate: Maseches Shekalim, the only masechta from Talmud Yerushalmi that is included in the regular Daf Yomi schedule, is only 13 dafim in the Slavita edition of Shas, upon which the original Daf Yomi calendar was based. The later Vilna Shas edition included in its publication on Shekalim a commentary תקלין חדתין, which expanded the masechta to 21 blatt. Many of the Daf Yomi maggidei shiur found it too difficult to cover Shekalim adequately in just 13 days. There was simply too much

If you enrolled in health insurance through the market place at get covered NJ you you will likely be eligible for additional premium reductions. If you did not qualify for financial help before because your income was too high, you may qualify under the federal changes.

Get Covered New Jersey is working to implement the changes and update its system to ensure that New Jerseyans receive this relief as soon as possible.

These new changes make coverage more affordable at many income levels. To ensure that as many residents as possible can benefit from the new financial help, the State of New Jersey has extended the health insurance enrollment window through the end of the year.

Great American Jewish Cities: Worcester & Boston

Great American Jewish Cities Season 2 #1: Worcester & Boston. Jewish History Soundbites is back to launch season two of our popular series "Great American Jewish Cities"! We commence with Worcester, Massachusetts which has a prominent Jewish history. Boasting 13 active shuls in the early decades of the 20th century, it also was home to one of the first Lubavitch Yeshivas in the United States. Visionaries such as Rav Zorach Hurwitz and Rav Hershel Fogelman invested in Jewish education at a time when in out of town America it didn't seem possible.

How has the Pandemic Impacted The Lakewood kehillah

Article Published by Torah Bytes for the Jewish soul

Interview with Rabbi Avrohom Lefkowitz Shlita Rav and Rosh Kollel of Kollel Bnei Torah, Lakewood, NJ

"Unfortunately, people talk about Lakewood and social distancing without knowing the facts. While social distancing is important, it is equally important for people to socially distance themselves from negative online chats and discussions that disparage Lakewood and are potentially more dangerous than the pandemic itself."

How has the pandemic impacted your kehillah?

We were affected like every kehillah, but I’d like to focus on the positive effects. Our kehillah bonded together in a significant way to support each other when mispallelim were sick, providing for their needs and being mevaker choleh. And the connection between mispallel and Rav was strengthened due to the many she’eilos that came up. The olam was given the opportunity to understand the importance of consulting with a Rav and recognizing that the Rav is and will be there for them.

From my own perspective, I was able to be mechazek everyone at a time when we were all anxious. Our Daf Hayomi shiur continued over the phone, as was done in other kehillos, and it will, b’ezras Hashem, go down in history as a continuation of this sacred limud in the most challenging of times. I was able to offer shiurim that never would have been offered otherwise, like a Zoom Pesach shiur showing how to kasher each part of the kitchen [with Zoom being also accessible using a traditional phone]. And my Rebbetzin was able to help out with her many messages of chizuk and guidance.

Can you comment on the divergent approaches between Lakewood and other communities regarding handling the pandemic?

Unfortunately, there is a lot of negative talk that needs clarification. From generations dating back to the Dor Hamidbar, there have been differences of opinion. But the general rule that binds us is that we listen to chachamim. There is no singular voice; we don’t have Moshe Rabbeinu to give us guidance. Each community needs to listen to its Rav. This is critical, because if we are to decide that a particular Rav is incorrect, it results in a total disregard for authority.

Lakewood Committee Meeting No Tax Relief as Budget is Introduced

Update: The ordnance for 4 way stop signs in New England village area did not pass as no one voted on it. Mayor said that residents were opposed to it. The township will work with PD for  safety speed bumps in the area.

Last year during covid they raised taxes but this time officials say there will be no increase to the municipal portion of the budget but no tax cuts either, The township is also receiving $27.3 million from the Covid relief rescue plan no word on how it will be spent or why taxes will not go down because of it.
