Binny, Bina, deja new, and others welcomed in Lakewood
The NYC council voted on a proposal that would allow for quicker removal of illegal Clothing bins and drop boxes. In Lakewood b'h we are a town of tzedaka vachesed we are proud to host these bins as a way to clothe the needy and fund-raise for mosdos. Ashreinu!! we dont see it as an eyesore- unlike NYC they complain many bins overflow with uncollected items, are misused as trash receptacles and attract garbage pickers and vermin, opponents say. When sanitation inspectors quickly tag them, the bins’ owners take advantage of regulations giving them 30 days to haul them away. The battle of the bins comes as the textile-recycling market has grown into a $1 billion behemoth in the United States. Most donors don’t realize their old garments will never clothe the needy".

Lakewod buisnesses featured in the news
While Lakewood is not mentioned specifically but this law is very important especially to Lakewood businesses, which many already have complied. With young married women, kollel wives of child bearing age, supplying the vast majority of the workforce in town, this law is not only important but can make working much easier. Under the Affordable Care Act, employers must provide time and space for new mothers to express milk for their babies until the child turns one year old. It should be a room, a separate quiet place, not a bathroom, and let the mother express her milk and have a place to store it.

Lakewood parents join in the camp spirit
Vuss tut men nit far der kinder! Look around its color war on wheels. As boys camp season begins the camps are at it again outdoing and competing with each other who can have the best PR and placement on the cars. The shtick changes yearly from the simple bumper sticker to a magnet to a flag a mirror sleeve or perhaps soon a fully painted vehicle. Bright colors catching attention as kids drive with pride ans a badge of honor to the camp they are attending. The parents happily join in despite finding it a bit embarrassing, they join along knowing it makes their children happy. That's real pride thats not needed to be displayed.

How much do you pay for that watermelon, how to pick one out.
When it comes to watermelon shopping how many of us actually buy it in one of the local frum stores. Unlike other items, watermelon can not be sold close to an expiration date at a cheaper price. The frum Lakewood stores either can not or wont compete with shop rite or other brand name stores. Many would love to shop and patronize local merchants but not at any price. Watermelon this week on sale at ALDI supermarket $3.99, Stop and shop 69¢/lb. with your card.
To pick a nice watermelon, look for a nice symmetrical shape free of cuts and bruises. The bottom of melon should be a nice yellow color, showing that it laid on the ground as the sun ripened it. Since it is mostly water, it should be heavy in weight so you know it is not yet drying out. There are, of course, certain health risks associated with spoiled watermelon, so always remember to practice food safety and enjoy your fruits and vegetables prior to their eat by date.

Give back to the Doc
DR. Shanik is synonymous to Lakewood like apple pie is to America. Well not really a comparison but you get what were saying here. Doctor Shanik, not only is he Lakewood's pediatrician (no offense to the others) but he and his wife have established Lakewood's original Tzedakah- Ahavas Tzadaka for poor families. Show support and give something back to the doc whose always there for us 24/7 literally. Bais Faiga hall 7:15 pm.

Parking meters coming to downtown?
http://www.app.com/story/money/business/main-street/2014/07/11/lakewood-downtown/12525627/
Who are they fooling here, parking is not the main problem now. Metered parking will not necessarily fix or clean up the mess. You would think there are no other shopping areas in town. Yes many enjoy and would like to shop downtown on main street. Unfortunately, there are still stores and elements that keep people away from shopping there, its not only a parking problem. Although the downtown still seems to be a favorite place to shop for many, more has to be done. Women and children are scared and not comfortable to walk by certain areas of Clifton Avenue. Adding meters will push customers to shop elsewhere.

Busing update
Unfortunately there appears to be no update. There are a few options of staggering starting times but does not seem practical. While the funding for the busing has not been allocated. Askanim involved have secured the necessary funding for their own personal programs and projects. They are strong believers of חייך קודמין. How can they not have a conflict of interest representing the klal when they look out for themselves. They secure and protect funding for themselves such as programs or contracts (many which are not mandated just like courtesy busing) that are funded by the tax payers. Courtesy busing which is a benefit to the entire tzibbur and the only thing tax payers get in return is put up on the chopping block and axed from the budget. Its time for those with negios and personal interests to stop representing the tzibbur. Why are they different then a dayan who is a karov or a pair of eidim that are krovim.

Binny and Bina Buses running despite bus drill
A Robo call went out that the Lakewood Cheder Binny and Binah school buses are operating despite the bus drill. Clothing can always be dropped off any tinme. A cute marketing idea except for the fact that calls were made early morning, rather than the night before.

Lakewood homeowners receive estimated Tax bills-TAXES RAISED MORE THAN 2%
Something to keep in mind as elections near. The Taxes just keep going up and UP.. where the money is going is anyones guess but for courtsey busing there is not a cent. Not only that but there is a shortfall. This appears to be a rippoff of the Lakewood tax payers. WHERE IS ALL THE MONEY GOING??? New construction is adding more money to the tax rolls. Many seniors are moving in paying high property taxes without using services of the BOE at all. Its time to take back control from those that are in power and year after year all they do is raise our taxes.

New store will hopefully bring relief to food prices in Lakewood
http://www.ocsignal.com/2014/05/lakewoods-chateau-grand-demolish-kosher-deli-coming/
A trip to NY is not cheap but the price of kosher food is still much cheaper than Lakewood. You cant compare. With many struggling families, hopefully another supermarket will compete with or break the current monopoly of food prices in town and make shopping affordable, saving the trip over the verrazano.
