This is the first time that military vessels have crossed the Iranian blockade since it was imposed, even though the Iranians have publicly announced more than once that they will sink any military vessel, especially US Navy ships, that tries to cross Hormuz: the two-faced missiles, uncrewed underwater vehicles, and small boats fired by the Iranians towards them. The destroyers were accompanied by helicopters and other aircraft that assisted them in dealing with the threats.
