Agudath Israel spokesman writes oped to NBC in support over overturning Roe v Wade "Our position is impelled by traditional Judaism’s stance on abortion. While there are many Jews who favor an unfettered right to abortion, and there are Jewish religious movements that wholeheartedly embrace Roe, no source in the Jewish legal tradition considers abortion to be a “right” that a woman can simply choose to act upon. Judaism is overwhelmingly about responsibilities, not rights. And while Judaism considers a fetus to be something other than a baby, it considers it the responsibility of both women and men to be concerned about not-yet-babies, i.e. potential lives."more

The manager reportedly presented all the information to the building’s owners. Documentation was hand-delivered to the owners as well. On Tuesday, April 27th, the building’s manager reported back to the local community with a phone call, indicating that the owners regret their original decision and claim that they will be working on a resolution. Rav Forchheimer concluded, “I am hereby of the opinion that, considering the halacha of chamira sakanta mei’issura, all involved parties should ensure that this proposed antenna does not become a reality.” Matzav

- Agudas Israel says they are waiting for the final ruling of the supreme court on Abortion per email sent by Abba Cohen the Washington DC director to the JTA.  “While Agudath Israel is closely monitoring this important — if irregular — development, the Jewish perspective on abortion is nuanced, Thus, we would have to review the precise nuances of the final decision itself — how, for example, it treats abortion rights when the ‘mother’s life or health is endangered,’ or when the ‘mother’s sincerely-held religious beliefs allow or require’ her to seek an abortion, “We would also have to carefully examine state statutes and prospective legislation on these matters. The IDF Thinks – and the Torah Winks

Re: The One who Wields the Sword

Not so many nights ago, the People of the Book made a Seder and retold the ‘Sipur’ of our odyssey in Egypt.

The One Above extricated His nation from Pharaoh’s reign via ten plagues that turned nature on its head.

The ultimate objective was realized as we received Torah from Sinai – that’s the narrative – but are we on the same page?

The Seder message is –
למען תדע כי אני ה' בקרב הארץ" [שמות: ח,יח]"

The Boreh Olam runs this world and orchestrates the course of history.

Iran is a kid on the global block and is not going away!

According to the Talmud [Yoma 10A] ‘Poras’ has a pivotal role to play in the world, a colossal confrontation with Edom – or Western civilization. One opinion says ‘Poras’ will prevail – that doesn’t sound like F-35’s flying out of a Negev airbase and decimating Natanz nuclear facility.

Naftali Bennett and Putin will dance the Kizatzka, sooner than Teheran disappears from the world scene.

If  רצון שמים decrees by design that Iran realize its aspirations for hegemony, any endeavor by Tzahal to the contrary, is a waste of energy and resources, and won’t impact the calculus.

The issue with this Ami piece is not only that it’s wishful thinking that will never transpire, but also the tone of the title and interview, a cavalier worldview that we’ll take care of things [as if it’s up to them]; the Haggadah’s directive casts this philosophy aside into the dustbin, with the rest of the sour-dough chometz.

The Torah’s pen is mightier than [the one who yields] the sword.

Lakewood Zoning Board Sued For Ignoring Neighbors Concerns on Cell Tower

A Lakewood resident has filed a lawsuit against the Township Zoning Board after the Board approved a cell tower facility on top of the Senior Citizen resident building on Clifton Avenue and 5th Street despite health concerns presented by numerous neighbors.

Back in March, Lakewood Township's Zoning Board granted a Use Variance as well Bulk Variance relief to a Verizon subsidy to install a cell tower facility on top of the Senior Citizen resident building on Clifton Avenue and 5th Street.

Numerous neighbors attended the Zoning Board hearing and spoke up in opposition to the installation of the cell tower, citing health concerns due to the proximity of the proposed tower to residential homes.

Attorneys for Verizon counter asserted that the Zoning Board is precluded from considering the health effects of the cell tower, beyond whether they followed FCC guidelines.

In response to this assertion, the neighbors attempted to distribute to the Board articles regarding a Federal appeals court opinion that the FCC, which has not updated their  guidelines regarding the standards for cell towers since 1996, has failed to adequately respond to credible evidence, such as from the American Academy of Pediatrics, of the impact of radio frequency radiation on children. The American Academy of Pediatrics has presented credible evidence that exposure to radio frequency radiation can have health impacts and environmental impacts even at levels lower that those  permitted under the existing guidelines.

The neighbors implored the Board to table the application to a future date to permit them to retain a professional to better present their concerns to the Zoning Board.

The Zoning Board refused to postpone the hearing, and even to look at the federal court opinion after the Board Attorney asserted the articles were irrelevant because "he is sure there are other articles that say differently."

The neighbors have filed a Complaint in Lieu of Prerogative Writs asking the Superior Court asking the Judge to overturn the Zoning Board's decision, arguing that the Board's refusal to adjourn the hearing, despite multiple objectors requesting the opportunity to secure a expert witness was contrary  to applicable law; and was arbitrary, capricious, unreasonable and otherwise wrongful against the neighbors.

Supreme Court to Overturn Roe V. Wade

US Supreme Court has voted to overturn abortion rights, draft opinion shows. A leaked draft decision reveals SCOTUS seems set to overturn Roe v. Wade

Police set up security barricades around the United States Supreme Court building after a draft opinion reportedly overturning Roe vs. Wade was leaked st 8:30 pm by Politico reporters.

The Supreme Court has written an opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision that provides women with a constitutionally protected right to an abortion, a report said.

The majority opinion was written by Justice Samuel Alito and leaked to Politico in an extraordinary breach of Supreme Court procedure.

“Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” Alito writes in the 98-page draft opinion, obtained by the outlet.

The Democratic leaders in Congress, Senator Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, issued a joint statement saying that the draft opinion, should it become the court’s decision, “would go down as an abomination, one of the worst and most damaging decisions in modern history.”

Governor Phil Murphy said "A truly dark day in America with the news reports that the Supreme Court has voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. This year, I signed the Freedom of Reproductive Choice Act – codifying a woman's right to choose into state law. New Jersey will not go backwards on reproductive rights".

The opinion rejects the 1973 decision that guaranteed constitutional protections for abortion rights as well as the subsequent Planned Parenthood v. Casey decision in 1992.

“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” he writes in the document, labeled as the “Opinion of the Court.”

A ruling overturning Roe would be transformational -- legally, politically and socially. Twenty-six states would be likely to ban most abortions, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a research organization that backs abortion rights.

The draft ruling, which was written in February, would end the federal abortion protections and instead leave the decision up to each state to restrict or ban abortions.

It’s not clear if there have been subsequent changes to the draft, Politico reported.

No draft decision in the court’s modern history has been released publicly while a final decision on a case was still pending, according to the outlet.

SCOTUS judges are known to have changed their votes as opinions circulate, Politico noted, and major decisions such as this can go through multiple drafts before a final decision is made.

Levaya will be held Sunday 2:00 pm at Mesivta Tiferes Yerushalayim MTJ in New York City

Matzav- It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Nota Greenblatt zt”l, av bais din of Memphis, TN and noted rov and posek. He was 96 years old.

Rav Greenblatt was born in 1925 in Washington, DC. In 1928, his parents moved to Ellenville, NY, where his father, Rav Yitzchok, a native of Brisk, became the rov of the shul. Rav Yitzchok then became a shul rov in Newark, which had a large Jewish community. Rav Yitzchok was not only a talmid chochom who wrote seforim, but was also a maggid, traveling around and speaking. In 1943, Rav Yitzchok started the first day school in Newark, which was the second religious day school to open in New Jersey.

Rav Nota Greenblatt was born in Washington, but spent the years age 8 to age 12 in Israel. He returned to the US by himself at the age of 12 in 1937 to study under Rav Dovid Leibowitz at Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim on South 9th Street in Williamsburg. The mashgiach of the yeshiva was Rav Chaim Pinchos Scheinberg. Rav Greenblatt learned with bochurim who were much older than him and was able to hold his own due to his in-depth, Yerushalmi chinuch. He spoke a fluent Yiddish, which helped him become close to Rav Dovid. Rav Dovid told him, “If you’re sincere and you know where you want to go in life and have a plan, you’ll never fail. You will always succeed.”

What we do here has significance elsewhere. On the Lakewood BOE yearly budget: " $220M budget is wasted, run by mediocre administrators without vision, b/c they protect $20M for mosdos. Why sacrifice $200M for $20M? Get both! (Same w/elections, b/c of favors, we overlook visionless government) A true innovator can turn the $220M into $1B worth of public weal!
