IDF official statement:In accordance with the decision of the political echelon, a few hours ago, the IDF began a targeted and delimited ground operation in southern Lebanon against terrorist targets and infrastructure of the terrorist organization Hezbollah in several villages near the border, which pose an immediate and real threat to Israeli settlements on the Northern border. The IDF operates according to a plan designed by the General Staff and the Northern Command, for which the forces have trained and prepared for in recent months.

The ground forces are accompanied in their attack by the Air Force and artillery, which attack military targets in the area in a coordinated effort with ground forces.

- The IDF has confirmed that forces began a targeted ground operation against Hezbollah terrorist targets in the border areas of Southern Lebanon.

- Unconfirmed reports israeli airspace to be closed as of 5am this morning Israel time

 IDF began an attack on a number of buildings in the Dahiya district in Beirut.

- IDF Spokesman Hagari: "In recent hours, there have been many reports and rumors about IDF activity on the Lebanese border. We ask not to report about the activities of our forces for their security. Stick to the official reports only and do not spread irresponsible rumors."

- The Israeli government cabinet meeting is over; now a limited meeting of the prime minister and the top security forces is taking place

- IDF forces have begun to cross into Southern Lebanon. The ground operation is starting.

- Lebanese Army and UNIFIL forces are withdrawing to the Litani River. Hezbollah units are moving up to take their vacant positions. The IDF artillery fire has been incessant for at least 2 hours straight. Flares are going up now over border villages.

- Reports of very heavy IDF artillery and tank fire towards South Lebanese border villages

- The IDF has announced that the areas of Metula, Misgav Am, and Kfar Giladi are now a closed military zone.  Entrance into this area is strictly prohibited

- Israel and the USA are preparing for a possible Iranian attack on Israel. This comes after an operational assessment that Iran is expected to attack Israel in the near future. Channel 14

- Ahead of a potential IDF incursion, many of the remaining field commanders in Hezbollah fled to Syria through tunnels (Kan 11)

- Israeli media is reporting that all communication with Yahya Sinwar is lost. According to sources in the security system, he has not contacted any outside sources. Sunday September 29 News Updates Lakewood

 Weather: 66° Showers this morning, becoming a steady rain during the afternoon hours. Chance of rain 90%. Rainfall around a quarter of an inch.

- The death toll from hurricane Helene continued to climb. Hundreds remained missing across the region. Nearly 100 people were killed across Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, The Associated Press reported.

- Atzeres Tefila on Gezeiras Giyus will take place in Lakewood with tens of thousands expected to attend braving the wet weather. The event will start with mincha at 1:30pm and end at 3pm sharp. There will be minyanim for mincha in all botei medrash of BMG. The atzeres will take place at the municipal lot between Clifton Ave and Lexington Ave at 10th and 9th st the dais will be on the Lexington side. Road closures in the area. Ladies will be on 11th st between Lexington and Monmouth.

- Israeli attack  at an apt in Beirut tonight. The three killed in the Israeli attack in Al-Kola in Beirut are Muhammad Abdel-Ael, Imad Odeh, and Abdel-Rahman Abdel-Ael, all senior members of the PFLP

- Unconfirmed Reports over the last 24 Hours suggest that Major General Maher al-Assad, the Brother of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as well as the Commander of the Syrian Army’s 4th Armoured Division, was Killed yesterday by an Israeli Airstrike on his Home near the Capital of Damascus. Maher and the 4th Armored Division are well known across Syria for their Brutal Crackdown against Anti-Government Demonstrations in 2011, specifically in the City of Daraa where his Forces led a Slaughter against Hundreds if not Thousands of Civilians; they are also known for their Close Ties to Iran and Iranian-Backed Forces operating in Western Syria and Lebanon.

-The IDF reportedly identified Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar's location in Gaza but called off the airstrike due to the risk of harming nearby hostages, Channel 12 reports. Sinwar's whereabouts is currently unknown and the IDF is uncertain about his fate.

- Gideon Sa'ar is joining Bibi's coalition. He will initially enter as a Minister without a Portfolio and a Cabinet member. 

The Israeli security establishment believes that only the destruction of the Hezbollah infrastructure in the Lebanese settlements near the border, through a ground operation, will allow the residents to return safely to their homes. (Nir Davori, Channel 12)

- IDF attacks Yemen: In a large-scale air operation today, dozens of IAF aircraft, including fighter jets, refueling, and intelligence planes, attacked targets used by the Houthi terrorist regime in the areas of Ras Issa and Al Hudaydah in Yemen. The aircraft attacked power plants and a seaport, which are used to import oil. They also attacked infrastructure at the port that the Houthi regime uses to transfer Iranian weapons to the region, supplies for military needs, and oil.

 - Israeli official: "The purpose of the attack in Yemen is to collect a heavy price for their [the Houthis] attacks. If they continue to attack Israel - the attacks will increase. The damage caused to the Houthis is enormous, and it will take them a long time to repair it."

- The body of the Hezbollah leader was removed from the rubble in Dahiya intact. At the time of yesterday's attack by the Air Force planes, he was in a bunker in a place without ventilation, and gases entered the room where he was staying as a result of the explosions, and they are the ones that caused his death

-US networks say IDF may have already begun small raids on Hezbollah in south Lebanon – potential ground offensive would likely be limited.

-Despite swirling rumors, Israel has not yet decided to invade Lebanon as part of the ongoing conflict with Hezbollah, multiple top sources have told the Jerusalem Post.

If the IDF does decide to invade, the current initial plan would be a limited invasion in southern Lebanon or in parts of southern Lebanon.

- A barrage of some 10 rockets was fired from Lebanon at northern Israel a short while ago, setting off sirens in Afula, Nazareth, and numerous other towns in the Jezreel Valley.

According to the IDF, some of the rockets were intercepted by air defenses. There are no reports of injuries or major damage in the attack.

The Selichos You wont Hear About

Tens of thousands in Lakewood went to selichos motzei shabbos at chatzos, men women bochurim, girls and  young boys to the traditional selichos in their local shul or yeshivos just like their parents and  grandparents but there's nothing newsworthy about it.

I went to shul heard a fiery speech from the Rav, the chazzan began the traditional kadish to the tune of yomim noraim, fathers with sleepy eyed children, old and young were in the audience all asking for forgiveness and to get closer to Hashem as we get ready for the Yom Hadin. When it was over we went home. There were no photographers, no guitars, no organ, no cello, no musical instruments, no dancing, no entertainment, no carlebach nusach no kumzitz. It was a simple selichos recital seen in many shuls across the world the way it was done last year, and the year before, with the authentic nusach. But you wont see a video of it on the websites because its just perhaps too old fashioned or not newsworthy. Not here to take away or make light of what others do but we have become a man bites dog society.

- IDF confirms killing Hezbollah terror chief Nasrallah in strike on his Beirut bunker. The attack included 83 tons of bombs dropped in the central headquarters of Hezbollah in Beirut on Friday afternoon.

- Hezbollah members found and identified Nasrallah’s body on Saturday morning along with the terror group’s southern front commander, Ali Karaki and 30 commanders 

- As word spread after shabbos Israis were dancing and singing in the streets. The Mizrahi yeshivos of the national religious all danced after shabbos celebrating the assassination of Nasrallah. Machne Yehuda shuk in Yerushalayim was in festive atmosphere

Saying Selichos Before Chatzos

I do want to repeat what I mentioned in previous years, that the Selichos that are said in shuls before Chatzos Halayla, before midnight, are incorrect, they're inappropriate, even in Shas Had’chak. Rav Moshe writes in a Teshuva that Selichos should be said after midnight. You want to say it in the morning, say it in the morning, but not in the first half of the night.

 

I mentioned in previous years, the Kaf Hachayim, who says, better not to say the Shelosha Esrai Middos at all, than to say it in the first half of the night. So something that's very important to know, as we were growing up, nobody did this. It's true, Stolin seems to have had this Minhag for a long time, but there was nobody else in Klal Yisrael that said Selichos at such an hour, and it's really not what a person should be doing. Again, I refer to the Kaf Hachayim, so it's better not to say Selichos at all, than to say it in the first half of the night.

 The IDF used multiple bunker-busters in the attack on Hezbollah HQ. This is the most significant strike in Lebanon since 10/7.

- Reports: The talk of ceasefire and the Netanyahu trip to the UN was purposely done and part of a plan to trick Hezbollah that nothing is coming.

- The parking Lots at Clifton and 10th will be closed off after selichos Motzei shabbos 2:30 am am until after the Atzeres Sunday afternoon. Youngeleit are requested not to bring their cars Sunday to first seder but get dropped off as there will be no parking.

- A fire broke out early today at the brand new building of the new Bais Medrash in New Square.  Thousands aee expected tobgather motzei shabbos for selichos.  The fire started

In the laundry room near the mikva and filled the BM with smoke. Local askanim brought in cleaning personnel to remove smoke and the lingering odor from the shul and  have the building ready to host thousands of Skvere Chassidim for Selichos

- The Atzeres which will be attended by leading gedolim and Roshei Yeshiva, will start out with Mincha, 1:30pm and then Tehillim for our brethren in Eretz Yisroel and around the world, as the unprecedented threats continue to endanger Klal Yisroel. The Atzeres will also feature short speeches describing the gravity of this new law, and the threat it poses to the Olam Hatorah. The Atzeres will culminate with one of the Gedolim leading the thousands gathered with Kabolas Ol Malchus Shamayim to beseech Hashem to nullify the decrees and hasten the Geulah.

The atzeres is set to take place in the large parking lot across from Bais Aharon, bordering 9th and 10th Streets, and Clifton and Lexington Avenues. It will begin at 1:30 PM.

Letter from Baltimore Rosh Yeshiva to Attend Atzeres Tefilllah

 Harav Aharon Feldman shlita Rosh Yeshiva Ner Yisrael Baltimore calls on everyone who can to partake in the Atzeres this Sunday in Lakewood. He writes the decision by the Israeli government to draft all yeshiva bochurim to the IDF is basically a decision to uproot Torah from the nation living in Eretz Yisroel R"L and it is incumbent on us living in chutz L'Aaretz to speak out and make a machaa in the strongest way because this is our life. Therefore I ask that everyone who could to participate in the Atzeres this coming Sunday against this decision.

Lakewood Schools Open Registration for Next Year

 While there are still some girls not yet accepted into school for this year, several Boys and girls elementary schools already opened applications for next year and one school is closing registration tomorrow Sept 27. Traditionally the elementary schools would open registration right after Sukkos which was also early to start. For some reason a few boys schools advertised they are already accepting applications now before Rosh Hashana and the Lakewood cheder is closing registration tomorrow Friday September 27.

This early start by the schools prompted a panic among couples sending to Primary, which forced other schools to jointly put out an ad that they will not open registration until after Sulkos 26 Tishrei.

The mesivtos and girls high schools don't start taking applications until after chanukah, for some reason playgroups and elementary school start a year in advance before knowing much how the child will develop over the year. There's  been a push over the years to have the application start date pushed off to at least Chanuka but now it's just the opposite and  starting even earlier than usual.

Translation 

There's not much to add to the words of the gedolei yisroel. in Eretz Yisroel and America but they asked me to say a few words. The matzav is we are in a terrible sakana there's a gezeira to draft the yeshiva bochurim to the army and it starts off slowly slowly in phases,  there is a yeshiva near us where they learn day and night and 17 bochurim received draft notices to the army and the teva is that not everyone has the strength to get arrested and go to jail or fight with parents. This is a gezira to  eventually shut all the yeshivos and kollelim the yeshivos are the lifeblood of klal yisroel without the yeshivos learning Torah with Ameilus there is no yiddishkeit in klal yisrael and they want to break this, they want to wipe out klal yisroel this is not a gezeira from the outside the likes of geval amon and amalek but from our brethren from zera yisroel  which makes it a double chillul Hashem. This is a big tzara and of course our response must be to daven and pour out our hearts to Hashem to save the olam Hatorah from our brethren. All we have left from all the doros of tzadikim is the yeshivos and if the foundation is broken the building can not stand 

we should gather together the power of tefilas rabbim is great and we are davening for the ruchnius of klal yisroel the tears of such a tefilas rabbim will travel up all the way to the kisei hakavod. Hashem should watch us from all bad gezeiros A gut Gbenched yur

Roshei Yeshiva Gedolei Yisrael Call Atzeres Tefilah On Gezeiras Giyus in Lakewood

The Lakewood Roshei Yeshiva issue a letter calling on everyone to attend the atzeres Tefillah zaakas Hagola on Gezeiras Giyus as the IDF ramps up the attempt to draft Yeshiva Bochurim. Several media outlets reported that this is about the hostages although the letters from the gedolim say the gathering is mainly about the gezeiras giyus that is threatening the kiyum of klal yisroel by trying to close down the yeshivos and it is taking place during the yemeni harachamim when there is sinas yisrael rampant across the world and acheinu bnei yissroel in E"Y are in a physical and spiritual danger

The Atzeres will take place this Sunday first day of selichos 1:30pm at Clifton Ave 9th street by the municipal lot and surrounding area.

A conference call took place last night  for menahlim and roshei yeshiva of the yeshivos in the tri state area joined with  the Lakewood roshei yeshiva and Rav Elya Ber Wachtfogel who spoke strongly about the threat facing the olam Hatorah ibn Eretz Yisroel and specifically as the army is already targeting the weaker boys from the tichonim yeshivos who are not as strong to stand up to the threats of jail by the IDF for ignoring the draft notice. Rav Elya Ber said everyone must attend the atzeres. The Rosh Yeshiva Rav Yisroel Neumen addressed those who cliam that it will be Bitul Torah saying besides that it will be bein Hasdorim this Atzeres is Kiyum HaTorah. Many local and out of town yeshivos will be attending including South Fallsburg and Baltimore

- The IDF has confirmed that a Houthi ballistic missile was intercepted outside of Israel's borders at an extremely high altitude. The alerts were for the debris burning up as it re-entered the atmosphere.

- The IDF has confirmed that the launch was a single ballistic missile from Yemen. It was intercepted at a high altitude, seemingly by the Arrow.

-  Alerts of a barrage toward the center of Israel, including Tel Aviv.

- Bibi, upon landing in NYC: "During the flight, I authorized a strike, and "other things," on the head of Hezbollah's UAV unit, and he was killed. Our policy is clear - we will continue to hit Hezbollah with full force, and we will not stop until we achieve all our goals."

- Behind the scenes of the Biden/Harris ceasefire charade: Over the past 24 hours, what happened with this ceasefire debacle has become apparent. Initially, it looks like Bibi gave the Americans general approval of a ceasefire IF Nasrallah agreed. This is important because Israeli intelligence assessed that Nasrallah couldn't and wouldn't agree to this deal. After all, it would break the conception of tying Gaza to Lebanon.

Biden and Harris have been exerting immense pressure on Bibi by withholding arms shipments and threatening not to veto a UN vote on the issue. The Americans took Bibi's general approval and purposely twisted it to say he fully accepted this ceasefire, all while Bibi was on his plane and couldn't respond. This follows a known pattern from Biden/Harris of taking advantage of circumstances in which Bibi's ability to respond is limited (Shabbat, for example) and using the international media and certain notorious Israeli reporters to try to trap Bibi as if he has agreed to concessions.From Biden and Harris's perspective, this strategy is a win-win; either Bibi gives in to the diplomatic and media pressure, or he will pay the public and diplomatic price as someone who "prevents" a deal. However, this time, it backfired because no one in Israel would have ever agreed to this ceasefire, not on the Left, not in the opposition, and certainly not in Bibi's coalition.
