Chutzpah! LSTA Charging $260 While Township pays Courtesy for Public Schools, No mention of Free Option with Lunch eEigibility

Struggling Lakewood families just got hit with credit card fees charging them $260 for courtesy busing per kid. The LSTA (Lakewood Student Transportation Authority) has raised the price of courtesy busing by $80 from $180 to $260 per student for non mandated private school students for this coming year. The increase is due to rising costs of fuel and labor. At the same time The Lakewood Township Committee pays a few million to thr BOE for the courtesy busing of the public school non mandated students (paid for by Lakewood taxpayer money.)
While the Township Committee is not obligated to pay for courtesy busing at all, but once they do so for non mandated public public school  students, it would be discriminatory that they don't do the same for all private school students in Lakewood, mostly those who go to yeshivas.

When asked about this seeming discrimination township officials have yet to give a coherent explanation. There's been talk of class action lawsuit but nothing has been done.

Another glaring omission from the LSTA and school officials  that could potentially offer free busing is the NJ Law according to NJ Law if you are eligible for the lunch program you can not be excluded from receiving transportation, The LSTA, BOE have not advertised or offered this to local students local advocates and askanim have thus far not publicized this. If you can not afford it, the school district can not deny you transportation you should apply regardless and have tell the LSTA to pick up your children for more info send email to the state DOE:  student.trans@doe.nj.gov or call (609) 376-9064  see more HERE

Conservative media suggested the Biden govt kept the news going to distract from DOJ while blower was and Hunter Biden.

- The Lakewood scoop website came under intense criticism from residents in shuls after davening and all over social media as it continues its campaign of ignoring anything associated with the Lakewood yeshiva Beth Medrash Govoha. Calling itself once the heartbeat of the lakewood community it did not report or have a single mention about the Adirei hatorah event that was attended by 27,000 people mostly Lakewood residents, not one word not a report, or any photos. A car fire in BMG parking lot yesterday was reported to have happened on Clifton Avenue with no mention of BMG. As today gimmel Tamuz is the Yahrzeit of Rav Shneur Kotler zatzal there was no mention of that either, as of this morning, while tls dedicated a full post (Possibly a paid ad) to the yahrzeit of the Lubavitcher rebbe. The glaring omission was called out. Responding to the criticism on twitter TLS did not mention the yahrzeit of Rav Shneur but instead posted other yahrzeits that it has covered in the past. They wrote " A couple non-resourceful and/or hateful readers also claimed we don’t cover other Yahrtzeits. Here are some recent posts about the Yahrtzeits of other Tzadikim". Rav Shneur Kotler who built up the Lakewood yeshiva was not on the list. - Rabbi Steven Pruzansky on the current events A simple protest - because, pride lobby, the Torah is not changing In the Orthodox coddling of LGBT in its ranks, the emperor has no clothes! He is not wearing alternative garb, he is distorting Torah!
Increasingly, Orthodox Jews are being compelled (in truth, many go quite willingly) to participate in charade weddings, complete with “clergy,” rings, blessings, a chuppah, and, of course, the broken glass. All this in the guise of “maintaining the friendship, rallying around the family, trying to keep the child in the fold” that he or she has already left – and in the process, they betray what is most dear to them and trample on the integrity of the Torah.
It is all one big game of pretend, in which no one is allowed to state the quiet part aloud: the emperor has no clothes! It is not that he is wearing alternative garb. Do we ponder the ramifications of celebrating a sham wedding that defiles the very concept of marriage and family?
Do we even take a moment to consider that a four-year-old girl who thinks she is a boy needs her parents to take her to a competent mental health professional – not a surgeon? It is hard to imagine a greater act of child abuse to which children – teens and younger – are being subjected, and all in the name of the golden calf of compassion. More HERE

Tax Increase: Lakewood Committee Raises Taxes Over $800 annually For Duplex

Last night the Lakewood township commitee held a public meeting online thatblasted all of 3 minutes on the municipal budget. The 4 members approved it which includes a tax increase. Faanews broke down the numbers.

The total annual tax bill for FY '23 for a similar new duplex in Oak and Vine will be $13,898.976, which represents a $848.49 increase

Several residents sent comments asking the commitee to cut their salaries which are way higher than neighboring towns and why should the deputy mayor get a salary double than the other commiteeman. The big question asked where is all the money going from the new construction the mayor said that due to the growth they had to expand the police force and other municipal services. Mayor Ray Coles was asked about the tax abatements and he responded that in 30 years our grandchildren will benefit when the full taxes kick in.

Faa reports: The goings have really gotten tougher for Lakewood Township's finances, thanks to all the tax abatements and growth of municipal services due to the continued growth of the population. The tough finances will now be felt in our pockets.

Yesterday the Township Committee unanimously approved the tax levy, for a total of $79,172,923.65. This means that everyone's property tax bill will go even higher.

A big reason for the increased in taxes is due to all of the short and long-term tax abatements that the Township continues to grant.

- A NJ state lawmaker has introduced legislation intended to speed up the investigations of the state watchdog tasked with holding wayward public officials and police accountable. Sen. Joe Cryan (D-Union) said the state Office of Public Integrity and Accountability takes too long to investigate misconduct and corruption cases and should explain their delay to state lawmakers. Under a bill he introduced Monday, the office would have to comply with the attorney general’s policy that requires law enforcement agencies to complete misconduct investigations within 180 days.

American Roshei Yeshiva: Open Letter Regarding Eretz Hakodesh Party

Newly released Kol Kore from American Roshei Yeshiva warning of the danger of Eretz Hakodesh party planning to entice American frum community to vote  in the upcoming elections see full Hebrew letter below

It is well-known that the Gedoley Hador of pre-war Europe, led by the Chofetz Chaim and Rav Chaim Soloveitchik zt”l, and followed by the Gedoley Hador of the last generation, from the Chazon Ish to Rav Yosef Shalom Eliashiv zt”l, held that it is forbidden to join in any way with the Zionist movement. Indeed, in 1929, the Chofetz Chaim ruled this was so even if a majority of Yeshivos would close as a result. Agudath Israel itself was founded by the great Chasidic and

Torah authorities of the time in order to counteract the Zionist movement. The reason is simple: The Zionist movement strikes at the heart of Yiddishkeit, seeking to remake the Jewish people from a Mamleches Kohanim v’Goy Kadosh into a nation like all others, not based on Torah and Mitzvos.

Three years ago, a party called Eretz Hakodesh, self- identified as Chareidi, joined the World Zionist Organization (WZO) and misled thousands of Chareidi Jews into voting for it. Since then, Eretz Hakodesh has been a full supporting partner in the WZO, identifying with its goals and voting for its various programs and allocations. All of this is a direct violation of the rulings of the aforementioned Gedoley Torah.

By joining the WZO, in which the Reform movement is also a member, Eretz Hakodesh – which agreed to “work together as a full partner with [all WZO members] towards our common goals” -- has also breached the ban which eleven Gedoley Torah of America, among them Rav Aharon Kotler, \Rav Moshe Feinstein, and Rav Yaakov Kamenetsky zt”l, placed in 1956 on joining any umbrella organization that includes the Reform movement.

Eretz Hakodesh has now mounted a major campaign to entice American Charedi Jews, here and in Eretz Yisroel, to vote for it in the coming WZO elections, promising to bring monetary benefits to Jewish institutions. But no matter how great the supposed financial gain, it is forbidden to support, join and identify with an organization whose purpose is to remove Torah as the foundation of the Jewish people. Joining the WZO is an immense Chillul Hashem, and by doing so, Eretz Hakodesh rendered itself illegitimate from its inception.

- Mishpacha article  Hot deal or Hot Air - Why smart investors fall for the deceptive lure of easy money  What’s behind the string of losses plaguing our community? Is it a natural investment cycle or something more sinister? Are frum investors more vulnerable to bad deals? And what kind of due diligence can help minimize the dangers in a field that promises high rewards alongside devastating risks? .. Trouble began brewing in 2022 with the increase in interest rates. At first, investors were still riding on the high winds of 2021. It took some time until things started falling apart. Several months ago, however, the flimsy structure began to tremble, and since then many investments have begun to sink or implode.

A well-known Lakewood askan who asked to be identified as David has witnessed the devastation up front. “A young couple had been saving up for a medical procedure,” he says, describing one such case. “The funds were sitting in a bank account when someone approached them with an incredible investment opportunity that would bring in a substantial sum. They still had three months until the procedure, so they figured, Why not make some money in the meantime? Just recently, they learned that the money is gone. After waiting two-and-a-half years, they had to cancel the procedure. It was devastating.” source
