  1. That's interesting, how a delegation that has nobody from BMG, decided for BMG when the freezer should open!?

  4. How about putting the girls in the freezer - Seriously, does any girl need to get married before she is 20? Anything wrong with getting married and having some money in the bank? Is it even good for girls to get married when they are on a spiritual high from seminary?

  5. This campaign blaming everything on the freezer is coming from anonymous askanim who are hiding behind their names using media outlets to attack BMG and Rav Malkiel.
Don't be fooled by their PR and attempts to Sabotage the Yeshiva system in the name of helping the shidduch crisis.
The constant undermining of our holy yeshivos is a tremendous kitrug on klal Yisrael and will do more damage to the shidduch crisis.

Ending the freezer will be way for askanim to pat themselves on the back and say we did something, and it'll take the pressure off of BMG from enacting an age barrier. It's a win-win. All the media outlets will write how smart they are and what got accomplished, all while making no substantive changes.

  9. I am not a great fan of the freezer, but something doesn't make sense here.

Boys and girls enter primary with the same cutoff date.
They leave 12th grade at the same age. One year later, the girls are ready for shiduchim.
Five years later, the boys are ready for Shiduchim. The boys from five years ago are less in number than the girls from this year, causing a problem.

How does the freezer factor in? If the freezer lasted a year, it would add a sixth year to exacerbate the issue. But now it is only a few months, it is still the same cohort of boys that are available for the same number of girls. Making them available earlier shouldn't help anything.

    Am I missing something?

Don't get me wrong, the freezer is wrong for many other reasons. But I don't get how a girl will be helped through this.

  24. Because it is being used unfairly to attack the Roshei Yeshiva for establishing the freezer. The Roshei Yeshiva are well aware of the Mishna Ben Shmonah Esrai L’chupa and are well aware of the nisyonos out there. They are carrying forward the great mesorah of Rav Ahron and Rav Shneur Zecher Tzadikim Livrocho.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Reb Aaron and Reb Shneur had a freezer? Besides, the nisyonos nowadays are far greater than previous generations, while learning after marriage is more accepted and achievable.

If we find Gedolim going against halacha, there is only one explanation. It could be that they understood - for some reason unknown to us - that the halacha didn't apply to their talmidim. If so, we can't apply it nowadays, when the situation is clearly different. The other option is to claim that chas v'shalom the Gedolim felt that halacha from Chazal is no longer binding. Chalilah to believe such a possibility. But if that is what you believe, then they are no longer Gedolim. A Gadol is a Gadol because he listens to Chazal. If he doesn't, he is not a Gadol.

      Delete
    2. The freezer is wrong, but the nisyonos today are no different from the olden days. Bochurim had hormones in the Mir, Telz, Kaminetz, and post-war Lakewood, Ponovezh, Brisk, and Mir. All wanted the same thing, and nothing substantively changed. People have always been saying 'Nisyonos nowadays', and I am older than the internet.

There are certain industries based on the idea that 'today is different'. They do so for their own business purposes. Those who are on their payroll should believe their propaganda. The rest of us, who don't get paid through their accounts, should have more sechel than that.

      Delete
    3. Did 80% of Telzers in Europe look at inappropriate materials on the internet?

Regardless, if you insist that in Telz they were ignoring halacha, then you shouldn't be following that mesorah. Why should you respect a group that (in your misguided perception) doesn't respect Chazal?

  26. The "master’s degree" & all the special ed analyzing & psych degrees & degrees are the biggest cause of the Shidduch crisis IMHO. Look at any resume (another cause of the problem, Resumes) of the girls almost 40 & just above & see if you find one not practicing Special Ed or Phycology Social worker etc. or with a shopping list of degrees. Read the goyish book babies Versus carrier, and see how damaging degrees are to a shidduch.
Let me know how someone whose job is to find the chisaron in someone else & try to fix it, can possibly meet a bochur & it will work, for one he will sense he is being analyzed, that will put him off, if it doesn't by the time, she finishes analyzing she will find something wrong, no one is perfect after all.
IMHO stooping unmarried girls getting degrees, will help a lot to solve the shidduch crisis, just look around & see who got left out.

The degrees that they earn don't make them analyze their dates any more than they would anyhow, nor do they encourage them not to get married. All they do is enable them to support their husbands and families once their married without being taken advantage of by employers who treat them like second class citizens.

  30. Rashi isn't talking about someone who is committing sins because he isn't married. Not all hirhur is considered a sin. What we have in our situation is people committing actual sins because they aren't married.

In addition, it isn't clear that Rashi is discussing someone who is older than 19 (See, Sefer Shem Mishimon).

In addition, with modern technology and cleaning help, many yungeleit are free to learn three sedarim. I am not saying every yungerman can afford a full-time cleaning lady, but there are enough yungeleit who have a rich father or rich shver, so what's their hetter?

In addition, we need to go with what the Shulchan Aruch and all the poskim say especially since some say Rashi is a Parshan, not a Posek (Beis Yosef, Orach Chaim siman 10).

    1. Some people hate Bnei Torah, and when they see someone learning seriously, their minds invent aveiros for them. They are merely showing how filthy their own minds are, but they say it in public sometimes.

It is Sin'as Hatorah at its finest.

The Strikover Rebbe z"l from Bnei Berak used to say, "I knew the Mirrer bochurim in Europe, and the Chassidishe bochurim from Warsaw. The latter were no more 'upgehitten' than the former, with their shaven beards and fashionable suits."

    2. I agree with you regarding Lubavitch. The reason why people speak out against Lubavitch is because they, deep down, understand that they are davuk to Hashem and being mikarev ten times more yidden than everyone else combined. They use frume cheshbonos to justify why they hate Lubavitch.

But that is not correct in our case here. We are quoting even Litvishe gedolim who have a serious issue with the freezer. Don't blame the messenger! If you want to blast Rav Chaim Kaneivsky zt"l, go for it, though, honestly, it's not worth the risk. But, again, don't blame the messenger.

  34. Wow!!!! Boruch hashem that this cruelty which has been causing thousands of agunos amongst our daughters is finally coming to an end!
Without the artificial market manipulation of withholding the boys from the “market” we put our trust in hashem to allow the natural turn of events to play out and each and every person decides on their own when to go into shiduchim.
