Girls still not in High School for this coming year

It's Rosh Chodesh Elul Labor day weekend and there are multiple girls entering high School in Lakewood that still have not been accepted yet. This is in addition to the children if Ateres Tziporah girls elementary school that was shut down and as of today no solution has been made to place the children in other existing schools.

Previously the Roshei Yeshiva would not allow other schools to open until all girls in Lakewood are placed. So far this year no such anouncement has been made yet.

Jackson Board Members Resign after Attending Meeting to Stop Development

Hamodia- By Mordechai Wincorn

"Agudath Israel’s New Jersey Director told Hamodia that the recent revelations are yet another step in strengthening accusations of a concerted effort to block Orthodox growth in Jackson. “These incidents are further proof of the nefarious intentions of those sitting in the government of Jackson,” he said. “It shows a deep rooted problem that they are pursuing plans to keep Jews out and to have zoning and planning board members at a meeting on how to prevent a Jewish development from being built speaks volumes. Remember also, that these are positions appointed by the mayor and council to steer their agendas.”

 - Three members of Jackson Township boards dealing with development have tendered their resignations, following the release of recordings of their attendance at a meeting aimed at stopping the construction of a housing project geared towards Orthodox Jews. Controversy began after an anonymous leak to local officials and media surfaced that Richard Egan, who was a member of Jackson’s Planning Board, and Sheldon Hofstein and John Sullivan who served on its Zoning Board, were present at what was labeled as the town’s inaugural CUPON meeting. CUPON (Citizens United to Protect Our Neighborhoods) has been active in New York’s Rockland County for some time, largely focusing on efforts to oppose the growth of the Orthodox community there.

Yeshiva Shaar Hamelech to Open This Elul in Lakewood

New Bais Medrash-Level Yeshiva in Lakewood to be Led by Rav Yitzchok Schuster. For years now, bochurim have been following up their mesivta years by either moving on to their yeshiva’s bais medrash or by joining any number of bais medrash programs across the tri-state region. That transition, everyone knows, is a crucial one. A bochur grows significantly during his formative mesivta years, transforming from a young high schooler into a bonafide ben Torah seeking additional aliyah. That aliyah is experienced most effectively in a bais medrash atmosphere where a bochur receives hadracha and guidance, while hearing riveting shiurim that allow him to master the sugyos being studied, enhancing his learning both in iyun and in bekius.

Recognizing the opportunity to impact bochurim at this vital stage in their growth as bnei Torah, Rav Yitzchok Schuster has undertaken the founding of a new yeshiva, Yeshiva Gedolah Shaar Hamelech, which is set to open in Lakewood, NJ, this coming Elul.

Mishpacha: The Top 5 Yeshivish Business Ventures

Mishpacha Magazine (issue 536)  5 Yeshivish Business Ventures can you guess? Its not a Doctor, Lawyer or Accountant.
Rabbi Dovid Bashevkin for Mishpacha-   o, what is it you do? In many parts of the Jewish world, this typical conversation starter has three-storied answers: doctor, lawyer, accountant. But I got a glimpse of a host of different answers to the question at last week’s TribeWorks Business Accelerator, a one-day conference dedicated to innovation in the Jewish world. TribeWorks, an organizational partner of Mishpacha magazine, is focused on fostering the entrepreneurial revolution already underway in the Jewish community. Its launch event pulsed with ideas, energy, and an exchange of resources, featuring a high-power lineup of presenters and an overflow crowd of attendees. The inspiring day, dedicated to economic empowerment and professional creativity, is expanding the possible answers to the question, “What do you do?” But of course, just a reminder, before leaving your full-time job for entrepreneurial adventures, always best to double-check with your spouse.
Here are my top five business ventures embraced by the yeshivah community.

A Kol Koreh for Yeshiva Bochurim to Maintain Kedusha during Bein Hazmanim

The Vaad Hayeshivos in Eretz Yisrael issued a kol koreh on Tuesday urging yeshivah students to maintain the highest levels of kedushah during the upcoming bein hazmanim.

Bachurim were encouraged to be careful in particular of their speech and dress during the vacation period, and to avoid inappropriate social gatherings.
Noting that past years have been marked by tragic accidents during bein hazmanim, they were reminded as well to be sure to take part only in supervised trips and hikes with adequate safety precautions, as a matter of pikuach nefesh.

Although yeshivos traditionally do not maintain formal schedule during this time of year, the mitzvah of talmud Torah applies during these days as well, and a regular time should be set aside for learning.

This should be the Last Tisha B'av

Chazal say כל המתאבל על ירושלים - זוכה ורואה בשמחתה. ושאינו מתאבל על ירושלים - אינו רואה בשמחתה
Hopefully this will be the last tisha Bav we had. We await the geula and hope for the day to become a moed speedily in our days.
It should be the last Tisha B'av because we don't know what to mourn and how to mourn.

Unfortunately we are at a time in history that the sad day of Tisha Bav is  sadly no more. Sitting on the floor reading the kinnus in shul is not what the children are growing up with today. The day has been taken over and abused.
Ask a kid today what they know about Tisha Bav and see what the the first thing that comes to mind is.  It has become a day of video binge watching,  marketers use it as a release date for high end productions, premiers and to at times to push agendas.
(Modern technology allows us to sit in the  comfort of our homes and listen to inspiring
shiurim and speeches live streaming  online. These programs are not entertaining in nature its a live drasha broadcasted)
The  messages in these videos  maybe sincere in spreading ahavas chinom, the ills of Lashon hora and sinas chinom. Perhaps all this preparation should be done before tisha bav in the days leading up to it so people can utilize the day properly. It shuld not be a day we look forward to but as  a day we look forward to become a Yom Tov משום דאיקרי מועד

Video: Trump confirms Story he Paid off Mortgage of Orthodox Jewish Couple

The story has been confirmed by Jake Turx here who spoke to both and Eric and Donald Trump Jr.
In 1995 Donald Trump was traveling along a New Jersey highway when the limo in which he was traveling experienced a flat tire. Spotting the disabled car along the side of the road, a passing motorist stopped to offer his assistance. After helping, Trump asked how he could repay the good samaritan. The man asked that Trump send his wife a bouquet of flowers. Trump agreed. True to his word, the bouquet arrived several weeks later along with a note saying, "we've paid off your mortgage." They were an Orthodox Jewish couple from Lakewood.

NWS: Severe Thunderstorms and Flash Flooding Likely Tuesday in Central and Southern Jersey

Trends indicate a southward shift of the flash flood and severe thunderstorm threats. The occurrence of these hazards is between about 3 PM and 11 PM. Thunderstorms are expected to develop across the area on Tuesday. Some of the storms are expected to be severe, with damaging winds the primary threat. However, hail and a few tornadoes are possible as well.

Areas of 1-2 inches of rainfall are expected, with localized amounts up to 5 inches possible. Much of this rain may occur in a short period of time, which would lead to instances of flash flooding. Urban and low-lying areas would be particularly susceptible.
The primary time window for these hazards is from early afternoon through late evening.

LDC gives LSTA $1.5 Million Loan to be repaid with State Loan

Town officials at the LDC meeting yesterday stressed the importance of having busing in Lakewood. They noticed the current camp Traffic in town and pointed out how bad it is when there is no busing. They alluded to the gridlock day when all private school parents drove their kids to school. (There were no carpools and all mandated parents who had busing drove as well).

At  the Lakewood Development Corp meeting ( see video here minute 22:00)
the board voted to give the LSTA a loan of $1.5 million dollars from UEZ funds for back pay as they owe money for June and fund them for now until the loan of $36 million comes from Trenton.
Since the LSTA has not been renewed there is no funding to cover, as they would use future funds to pay for previous shortfalls.

The BOE  has issued a bid  proposal looking to hire a 3rd party company to run the private school busing in Lakewood. LDC chairman told board members said you can assume confidently the LSTA will win the bid and therefore will be able to pay back the loan with the loan from Trenton.

LDC meeting began with the board voting to hire the LCSC  in running their micro loans program and monthly presentations at the Strand. The LDC Chairman who is also the president of the LCSC  recused himself while his fellow members voted to renew his contract.

BOE votes to Demote Math Teacher and transfer Principals

R' Aaron Lang a math teacher since 2003 who is fighting the state DOE to provide Lakewood schools with more funding was demoted by the board members 2 of them were also his students at Belmar Yeshiva.

Students and parents showed up at the BOE meeting to stand up for and  protest the transfer of their beloved  Lakewood high principal and vice principal  to another school. In the end, despite their pleas  the Board members voted to transfer them to the Piner elementary school.

The board also voted to transfer Lakewood Math teacher R' Arthur Lang a BMG alumnus and Lawyer, from his teaching job at the high school to a 8th grade teachers position. A commentor notedo that 2 of the BOE members were students of Mr. Lang at Belmar yeshiva yet they they did not stand up for him one voted to transfer and the other was a no show. The high school currently has 5 vacancies for math teachers and only 2 permanent ones including Mr. Lang. No explanation was given as to the transfer.

APP reports Mr. Lang filed an affidavit claiming the demotion has to do with his lawsuit since he subpoenaed district officials to testify in the case. Officials declined to comment.

Mr. Lang filed a lawsuit 5 years ago against the state funding formula that it does not providing Lakewood students with a thorough and Efficient Education. In a interview with the Yated Ne'eman R' Aron Lang said he has put in hundreds of hours into the case all pro bono. If  he would bill at an hourly rate it would be over $2.5 Million. He said he will never quit and will take the case to the supreme court.

That case has just concluded and a ruling is expected by the end of the year.
