Actually, in Shulchan Aruch תרצה-ד it says:
Deleteוכל המרבה לשלוח לריעים משובח
Each time you give it's a mitzvah . And that is the mitzvas hayom. By advocating giving less and "focusing on emunah" , you are being mevatel mitzvah. This idea tthat Purim is a sollemn day, rather than a merry one, is atzas hayeitzer.
