Guest Speaker: HaRav Sholom Kamenetsky Shlita Rosh HaYeshiva Talmudical Yeshiva of Philadelphia

K’hal Zichron Yaakov, also known as “Rabbi Gissinger’s shul,” was founded in 1987 with a small group of families on “the other side of the lake.” Rabbi Gissinger’s goal was to perpetuate the ideals and lifestyle of his rebbe, Rav Yaakov Kamenetsky, zt’l. Rabbi Gissinger credits the kehilla’s success to its effort to fulfill the mission of “striving to daven, learn and interact with others in a manner consistent with Rav Yaakov’s teachings and personal example.”

Can Non Vaccinated kids Return to School
It's been 22 days since the last confirmed case of measles in Lakewood according to the Ocean county Board of health. Although there have been more cases confirmed as of yesterday, those patients had the measles from a few weeks ago and not so much in position to infect others. The official Board of health policy is once 21 days pass the kids can return to school. The last confirmed case was Nov 6th.
Does this mean that non vaccinated children can now return to school?
Will schools allow them back?

Legal Weed One Step Closer in NJ
NorthJersey.com - Two committees met for a rare joint hearing on Monday and considered testimony that lasted nearly four hours. The legalization bill was approved 7-4 with two abstentions..
The votes were largely along party lines, with more Democrats in favor.
What's next for legal weed?
To become law, the legal weed bill must receive 41 votes in the Assembly and 21 in the Senate. Then Murphy needs to sign it. But when, or if that will happen, is not clear.
Senate President Stephen Sweeney, D-Gloucester, said in an interview Monday that he wouldn't post the bill for a vote in the full Senate until it has Murphy's support. The next possible votes by the full Senate and Assembly are in mid-December.

PTA Week while some kids still out of school
Schools in Lakewood have scheduled PTA for this week. This is the first meetings of the school year that began in September.
At the same time there are a number of children who are still sitting home and have not gone to school yet for this year.
Until recently the list was at 15 including high school girls. As of now those without school are elementary girls. Hopefully by Chanuka they will all be placed.

Interview on Lakewood's Growth
From the interview with NJ.com
So just like there are many young black families or older black families that are being priced out, or Hispanic families, there are many Orthodox families that are being priced out, too. If you asked me, what would be my dream? I would love to see a ton of affordable housing built here.
Where are Lakewood's newly arriving Orthodox Jews coming from, and why?
The why is so easy: they love it here! New Jersey is a great place to live, (even though) we may be the butt of jokes across the country. ... It’s affordable relative to New York or Philadelphia, it’s accessible, there are great jobs here, it’s an unbelievable jobs engine here. There are good schools, there are good neighbors. And there are good people of all types here. It’s diverse, it’s energetic. It has all the advantages of the city without the disadvantages of the city.
Okay. But where are they coming from? Are they being priced out of Brooklyn?
A lot of the Orthodox families in Brooklyn were being priced out by Brooklyn gentrification.

Letter: Giyus update From Roshei Yeshiva and leading Admorim in Eretz Yisrael
Kislev,
5779
K 'lal Yisrael
in Crisis: Re: Impending Draft Law – ‘Chok Hagi’us’
The following is a reply to leading
Rabbonim in America, from preeminent Roshei Yeshiva and Admorei Chassidus
in Eretz Yisrael In
response to your inquiry about the current situation here:
As
the ‘Memshala’s’ legal counsel has already made clear, the impending
bill is designed to upend the Olam Hayeshivos, as well as to stymie the mores
and ethos of emunah and sanctity of Yahadut.
To
begin with, any deferral of B’nei Yeshiva is linked to the caveat that
the Chareidi community at large, fill quotas of conscripts. We’re
talking about recruiting thousands periodically, to compensate for those who
continue to study full time; if this proviso isn’t met, all yeshiva students
will forfeit their deferral status.

APP Editorial Engagement, key to understanding the Lakewood Orthodox Community
The Lakewood meeting may have been the most important of all. It was organized by an Orthodox woman who had attended one of the earlier sessions. When she joined in the conversation, which earlier had focused on some of the negative stereotypes of Lakewood and the Orthodox, the tenor changed. Her story and her experiences dispelled many of the myths, and helped shed light on many of the commonalities.
APP editorial-
Of all the nasty, misleading campaign literature generated during the run-up to the recent elections, the most offensive appeared in mailboxes in Jackson, where competing slates tried to outdo each other in branding the opposition as being in the pockets of Orthodox Jews.
In an attempt to woo votes, the two sides exploited anti-Orthodox sentiment in the community, playing into residents' fears that an influx of Orthodox into the township would turn it into another Lakewood. It was disgraceful.
Disingenuously, both mayoral candidates agreed: "How is that anything but anti-Semitism?" incumbent Mayor Michael Reina said, accusing his political opponents of "spreading more misinformation about me than I've seen in the 12 years I've been doing this."
Said Reina's opponent for mayor, Tracie Yostpille: "It is truly the most disgusting dishonest campaign using the Jewish population in Lakewood to scare voters." Both said they weren't responsible for the ads. Yeah, right.

YERUSHALAYIM - Speaking on Sunday morning to a passenger of the El Al flight, Rabbi Yisrael Halberstam of Yerushalayim, a blow-by-blow account of the story as he experienced it emerged.
Rabbi Halberstam is the head of Mosdos Zhemigrad in Eretz Yisrael and founder and CEO of Merkaz Yedid Nefesh.
Ahead of the Flight
Snow began to fall and accumulate early Thursday afternoon in New York. I called El Al several times, and they kept saying the flight will be leaving on time. However, the did specify to be in the airport on time, due to the weather. I left Boro Park four hours before the flight.
When we came to the airport, we saw the flight was from Terminal 4. In the terminal, the screens showed all the other flights delayed without a new time, or canceled. There were only two flights that were still showing that they were leaving on time: One was our El Al flight and the other to San Jose in California.

Opinion: Lakewood Measles Hysteria
An opinion piece by BY Judi Franco from NJ101.5
NJ1015 -The hysteria regarding measles in Lakewood is a mystery to me. But then, again the hysteria involving many childhood diseases that have been “eradicated” by vaccinations also puzzles me.
The same hysteria has now been attached to the flu and to chickenpox — normal childhood diseases that we all had and we all got over, but now because of marketing, we all think we’re going to die from all of them.
When I was young we all got the measles, the mumps, whooping cough and chickenpox. And no one died from them. (Well, actually, some people did but there were so few that we never even heard about it.)
And although no one has been able to conclusively tie vaccinations to scary, long-term, disabling childhood injuries, no one can unilaterally disprove the connection either. Having been through measles and mumps and chickenpox and flu and coming out of them fine, as we all did back then, I can tell you it’s a much less scary risk to have the disease than to possibly turn into a vegetable as many children have after receiving some of these childhood vaccinations.

Schools sending Acceptance Letters if you didn't get one, CALL
Schools are already sending out acceptance letters for those who applied and registered their child in primary for next year. This years some schools who would usually wait to send letters have done so early on. At the same time there are parents who applied and did not even receive a phone call for an interview or don't even know if the school has their application. CALL THE SCHOOL. Don't be embarrassed, its ok to be a Nudge. If you don't follow up they assume you are not really interested. Call and ask if they received your application, follow up again and ask if they processed your application and inquire if they are setting up an interview. Be engaged, keep on calling.

Urgent call to the Bnei Yeshivos in America
Letter written by Harav Shmuel Deutsch Shlita from EY to his son in Lakewood regarding the dangerous Giyus law that is up for adoption in the knesset. The letter calls on the American Bnei Torah to take responsibility by taking action and publicly oppose the pending threat. The same was done in previous situations, when the Yidden in America scream and protest it can have a positive effect in Eretz Yisrael. There is no greater threat to the ruchniyus of Klal Yisrael and its a matter of לא תעמוד על דם רעך.

Gas Explosion causes Fire in Lakewood
NBC- Multiple buildings were evacuated in an Ocean County, New Jersey, community Monday as crews investigated a report of a fire and gas explosion, officials say.
A call about a two-alarm fire near Second Street and Forest Avenue in Lakewood Township came in around 8 a.m. Monday.
It's not clear where the blaze originated, but Chopper 4 over the scene showed raging flames leaping from what appeared to be someone's backyard. That backyard was sandwiched between large trees and other homes.
Fire officials say cops are looking into whether a contractor may have hit a gas line. The flames ebbed once a valve was shut off. NO injuries reported

A spokesman for the Igud Hamosdos who requested anonymity told Hamodia that some 15 schools had sent any unvaccinated children home in accordance with guidance from Lakewood’s renowned pediatrician Dr. Reuven Shanik,
"Other schools have taken a “wait and see” approach. Rabbi Yisroel Schenkolewski, director of Bais Kaila and long-time askan, told Hamodia that upon consultation with Rabbanim, they had decided not to send any students home for the time being.
Hamodia: Lakewood- Two weeks after the recent measles outbreak spread to Lakewood, news of additional cases have sent hundreds scrambling to receive vaccinations and school administrators working to ensure that those in their charge will not be compromised by the highly contagious virus. Jewish Press Endorsement for Lakewood Township committee
Lakewood township committee Election: Vote for Aaron Hirsch. He pledged"As to the LGBT books: when elected I will do all I canto stop the Lakewood Library from exposing our children to such indecent propaganda. this is poisoning our children" He has also said"The establishment have told us over the years to hold our nose and vote as a bloc for immoral people instead of voting for persons with values and beliefs which are in sync with our community. all for the greater good
"This has been filing and has gotten worse over time. A most recent example is with our new governor. He promised to create a board of education formula that treats Lakewood fairly and dosent deprive our children of state funding, instead he has cut more of our state funding and reducing state aid going forward putting Lakewood into deeper debt.. Not only are our interests ignored but our basic societal beliefs are being trampled. It is difficult enough raising kids in a right environment.

The Yated Ne'eman Newspaper had an exclusive interview with NJ Republican candidate for Senate Bob Hugin who is challenging incumbent Bob Menendez. The Yated spoke with Mr. Hugin this week to find out where he stands on issues important to our community. He shared his view of President Trump, told of his relationship with Israel, and offered his thoughts on the Pittsburgh massacre.

YN: What can be done to alleviate the financial burden on tuition-paying parents who send their kids to private schools?
BH: I certainly believe that having choice in education for all students is an important thing, whether that is a religious choice or any other choice. Though I do believe in the separation of church and state, the government should still play a role in ensuring the transportation needs, the security needs, and the fundamental support of basic services. All kids, no matter where they are brought up, should be able to reach their full potential, and many different schools provide that opportunity.

Editorial: Vote NO on Ballot Question
NJ Star Ledger: The only question on the ballot on Nov. 6 asks voters whether to approve the $500 million in new debt for school security, county colleges, vocational schools and water infrastructure. The constitution requires that new debts obtain voter approval. (this will not go to private schools)
Many desperate and worthy causes are left to fester in New Jersey, like NJ Transit or the ramshackle rail tunnels we depend on to get into Manhattan, or the raging opioid crisis. That's how it is when you're broke. Our state is drowning in debt, yet our lawmakers continue to pile on more, while sidestepping the tough part - finding a way to pay for the things we want, whether it's with a tax or a fee.

Hakoras Hatov for Trump
Submitted.
Don't vote against Trump by voting Menendez. Lakewood voted 90% for Trump
Trump moved the Embassy to Jerusalem and got lots of slack for it. This removed Palestinians prerequisite for peace of recognizing Jerusalem as Palestinians. Trump Frees Rubashkin, something others didn't consider. Trump and Republicans put into law the Taylor Force Act, that blocks US money to Palestinians that funds terror. How much Jewish blood saved from that act alone? Many countries in the middle east that have never had any relationship with Israel that now do. A great alliance against Iran has been formed under Trump in the middle east. Hillary and Obama, lit the middle east on fire and destroyed that part of the world. We need to show support for Trump so he can continue the good, and to show hakaros hatov for the amazing things he has done for us. Don't vote against Trump, by voting Menandez. Lakewood will really decide whether Menendez will win and get reelected to the Senate from NJ.

Pittsburgh Victim Wore Tefillin every day
Mr. Melvin Wax, was one of 11 victims killed in the Pittsburgh shooting last shabbos. He has relatives in Lakewood who are saying Kaddish for him. Melvin was 88 years old and he never missed a day of putting on Tefillin. It would be a zechus if anyone can learn Mishnayos for his neshama Moshe Ben Yosef a'h.
