A Sefer Torah for Ahuva Malka Zirkin A"H

                                                          DONATE HERE
To our dear family and friends,
Returning home from our dear Ahuva's levaya to sit Shiva is the hardest thing we have ever done. Raising our dear Ahuva Malka a"h and memories of her will stay in our hearts forever.
Her special smile and precious soul touched all that knew her.
Ahuva, we learned so much from you. You taught us to be happy, to appreciate life, and how to love and care.
There were so many heartwarming experiences our family underwent through the challenges of raising Ahuva a”h. We ask the tzibor to join us in doing two very special things as a zchus for Ahuva;

‘Hug your children, put away your phones and listen to each child. Use every precious minute you have to love them.
Our Rav said that when a child is niftar the biggest zchus and nechama is for a sefer Torah to be written and dedicated lieulu nishmasa - we are asking everyone to unite and help us make this a reality. Please click on the link, every bit will help make this possible.

We can't tell you how much the outpouring of love and care in the last two days has meant to us. The outpouring of chessed and how much you care has helped us get through each day. Each act of chessed should be a zchus for our dear Ahuva … May her holy neshama stand as a melitzas yosher for her family and all of klal yisroel.

Who Is Watching Your Baby?

In this weeks issue of Ami Magazine featured a article of two recent cases were private nurses harmed a baby they were hired to care for. In response Lakewood veteran Pediatrician DR. Reuven Shanik wrote a letter to his patients urging them to be vigilant and perform background checks when hiring a nurse or a Nanny even from a reliable agency. Letter was written on March, 29, 2018

We advise all families to use caution when hiring a private duty nurse for your children. It is imperative that you ensure the person you are bringing into your home to care for your children has had a background check. Do not assume an agency nurse has had a proper one.Ask for references. There have been several recent incidences of issues with these nurses. Even with references, it is recommend that you get a nanny cam". The nurse should be told that the camera is on at all times.

Judge Rules: Chabad Can Operate in Toms River Home

APP reports that the Chabad Jewish Center can continue to operate in a home on Church Road after a federal judge ruled that Toms River wrongly required the Chabad to acquire a variance to operate in a residential zone.
This ruling can pave the way for future zoning issues.

The report says, "U.S. District Court Judge Freda L. Wolfson said the township's Board of Adjustment violated the federal Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act, the Fair Housing Act, and the U.S. Constitution in  barring Rabbi Moshe Gourarie from operating the Chabad without a variance."
"I'd just like to say that our clients are very pleased with the result and look forward to many years of a productive relationship with the community in Toms River," said Roman P. Storzer, of Storzer & Greene in New York and Washington, D.C., who represents the Chabad Jewish Center.

LPD: Voluntary Security Camera Registration Initiative

Lakewood Police Dept  joins other municipalities across the nation by offering residents and business that have cameras on their property to register with the police department to help solve crimes known as SCRAM. You will only be contacted if a crime occurs in your neighborhood and you are willing to share any footage your cameras may have recorded and/or photographed. In 2014 a bill was introduced in NJ that Permits municipalities to enact ordinance requiring registration of private outdoor video surveillance cameras.

from the LPD website:
"In an effort to continue our commitment to providing excellent police services, the Lakewood Police Department is forming a community partnership that all residents and business that have cameras on their property can register with the police department. Participation in this partnership is completely voluntary. All registered information will be kept confidential and will only be viewed by authorized Lakewood Police Department personnel. We are not asking and will not monitor your cameras. This is strictly to be used as an investigative tool to aide officers and detectives."

Obviously, people are hesitant giving over access of their private home video to the govt, Read this article on copblock explaining the other side.

A growing number of police departments across the US want access to your video.
Surveillance Camera Registration And Mapping, or SCRAM as it’s called, is a program where police have residents ‘voluntarily’ register their home surveillance systems with the local police. The way the program is supposed to work, is when a crime is committed near your home, police can ‘request’ all the footage that your system recorded. Of course, if you don’t voluntarily give up the footage, police will either take it by force, or get a warrant to secure the footage.

I know what you’re thinking: Why on Earth would you tell the police you have a CCTV security system? It’s a very logical argument. I, for one, wouldn’t want the police to have access to any audio/video that I have. But in some areas of the country, residents are required by law to register those devices with the local police departments.

Gas Prices in Lakewood Over $3 a Gallon

This is when the gas tax comes back to bite, Some gas stations in Lakewood (Exxon Madison) are charging $3.10 per Gallon for credit. Other gas Stations in Lakewood are still in the $2.70 range (see Gas buddy) but prices are going up.

Gas prices in New Jersey and across the nation resumed their upward trend, due to Mideast tension and the approaching deadline to switch to more expensive summer-blend gasoline. The average price of a gallon of regular gas is $2.71, and was at $2.41 a gallon at this time last year.
Analysts say higher prices are expected as Memorial Day approaches along with the May 1 deadline to switch to summer-blend gasoline.

Israeli Police Brutality Make International News

The Israeli Police harsh response to protests in Yerushalayim about Giyus Banos has made the international media. See Video below.
The story was posted on the front Page of the Drudgereport April 15 edition along with a picture of frum Yidden. The headline read: Israel police use stun grenades to quell ultra-Orthodox 'rioters' and linked to a article on Yahoo News . Protesters were beaten and hospitalized in a new tactic to quell it.  "Israeli police used stun grenades Sunday to try to calm a violent protest by ultra-Orthodox Jews in Jerusalem, the latest angry demonstration against the military draft. A police statement said four officers were slightly injured in scuffles as law enforcement tried to disperse "several hundred ultra-Orthodox extremists" outside an army enlistment office in the holy city. "Police used stun grenades and water cannon against rioters," police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told AFP."
Even more shocking are the comments on yeshiva world News Youtube channel: "Shoot them with real bullets" and "These people dont deserve to live".

NJ Dep Of Health: Romaine Lettuce linked to E.coli outbreak

Good thing it's not Erev Pesach. Dr. Shanik says to follow the CDC Guidelines and not eat Chopped romain

TRENTON –April 13, 2018 Chopped romaine lettuce grown in the Yuma, Arizona region is likely the source of an E. coli O157:H7 outbreak that has sickened at least seven New Jersey residents, including one in Sussex County, and a total of 35 people in 11 states, according to the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
More from NJ Herald
No deaths have been reported.
At this time, the CDC said, no grower, supplier, distributor, or brand of romaine lettuce has been identified.
Consumers who have bought romaine lettuce -- including salads and salad mixes containing romaine lettuce -- should not eat it and should throw it away, even if some of it was eaten and no one has gotten sick. If you don't know if the lettuce is romaine, throw it away, according to the advisory.

Website Launched "The Lakewood Response" Giving a Voice to the Vaccine Reaction

The Anti Vaxer Movement launched a website The Lakewood Response Giving a Voice to the Vaccine Reaction. Two Months ago a email sent out by The Vaccine coalition  reignited  the Vaccine debate again specifically in Lakewood. It set off swift responses within the frum Jewish Media and in Lakewood. They were called a small, fringe group that ignores the advice of medical professionals who overwhelmingly support immunizations. Dr. Rich Roberts painfully dis invited non vaccinated people from his bi annual Chol Hamoed carnival. Letters by prominent pediatricians in Lakewood were written in support of immunizations for children to prevent tragic occurrences and denouncing this movement.

On the website they claim there is a Deep State in Lakewood that has a monetary motive to push vaccines.

An Interaction at the Bowling Alley with a Lakewood Family

The original story (see below) was posted on the  Facebook page Portraits of the Jersey Shore  by Mr. Gregory Andrus and has been picked up by other media outlets. it was on Chol Hamoed Pesach.

This is a follow up post:
Hi everyone, Gregory from Portraits of the Jersey Shore sharing my heart here, and I just have to say how blown away I am for a second. I shared abut how I became friends with this man pictured here, Joel, and how I really enjoyed getting to know some of the people in his Orthodox community yesterday while bowling with my family. That post has reached over 8,000 people, has over 800 "reactions," 60 shares, and over 50 comments. The conversations that have ensued from people of different backgrounds and cultural contexts here on this page from that post have been amazing. People have been sharing their perspectives, their hopes - and yes their fears - with each other, and no one is calling each other names, or being disrespectful or mean-spirited in any way. You all are what makes this page so amazing. I am such a grateful man, for you each give me continued hope that this world can be a better place, one person, one interaction, one story at a time.

Original Post
My family and I went to the local bowling lanes on this rainy day. The place was filled to overflowing with people from the Orthodox Community, as they had off in celebration of their Passover. I didn’t mind, it just meant that we had to wait longer to get a lane. Now, elephant in the room, it is no secret that this community has been reviled wide and far by many people who live in proximity to the Orthodox community. So I was interested in seeing what my experience would be.

Letter About the Double Tragedy R'L

Dear Parents,

It has been a difficult few days.
The horrific, double tragedy that occurred on Chol Hamoed has hit not only two of our families, but our community and Klal Yisroel as a whole.
What is our task, going forward?
First and foremost, we have to be nosei b'ol with the two families, every second of our waking days. We cannot be maisiach da'as (shift our focus) from their indescribable pain and tza'ar.
At the same time, there are lessons that are incumbent on us to glean.
 Who was this wonderful couple-to-be?
Yisroel, a"h, was a talmid in our yeshiva who loved learning and loved helping people. He had an infectious smile and simchas hachaim. He was just overjoyed to be able to live and enjoy the world Hakadosh Boruch Hu has given us.

Elisheva, a"h, was a Kaplan - as we know them all to be. Like the rest of her family, she was possessed of unadulterated joy. She was just happy to be alive and 'smell the flowers' - to enjoy Hashem's world.

NEW YORK -  Community Mourns Chassan and Kallah Niftar in Crash

Yisroel Levin, z”l, a young chassan from Flatbush who was killed in a horrific car crash during Chol Hamoed Pesach together with his kallah, Elisheva Kaplan, a”h, of Far Rockaway, was laid to rest on Sunday, Isru Chag in Eretz Yisrael.
Their tragic petirah over Yom Tov shook many in the Jewish community. The couple had only been engaged for a little over a week and was set to marry in the coming months.

Harav Binyomin Carlebach, shlita, a Rosh Yeshivah at Mir Yerushalayim, where Reb Yisroel was a talmid, spoke briefly, noting that one does not deliver hespeidim during the month of Nisan. He brought attention to the broad nature of the dual tragedy.  “The way this news traveled around Klal Yisrael made it so obvious that this is a gezerah on Klal Yisrael, and each one of us needs to internalize it and hear what it is that Hashem is saying to each individual and [to] the klal,” the Rav said.
