Updated: Israeli MK intercedes on Behalf of Lakewood Bachur in IDF Prison

Update: מעבדות לחירות B"H The Bachur was released before Yom Tov in Eretz Yisrael thanks to the help of Rav Shmuel Rabinowitz and MK Aryeh Deri. He will return to prison following the first day Yom Tov and finish the 20 day sentence.

While the frum knesset members remain silent, in a last minute attempt to free a Lakewood boy from IDF Military Prison for Pesach,  Knesset Member Dov Khenin of the Communist party  penned a Letter to the Defense Minister Avigdr Lieberman on behalf of the boy to set him free. He writes there is no question this boy is not fit to serve in the IDF due to his health conditions and other personal issues. He was acting on advice of his Rabbis not to enlist or go to the Recruitment center. There is no reason he should not be freed and be able to spend the Seder night with his family. There is no reason that this young bachur should be a target of a national political debate especially considering his health and current emotional state.

Families Could Still Count on You

In Yiddish there is a saying the Yom Tov is called pesach because you
Pay- asach(pay a lot) The expenses that come along with yom tov are known to all. It was back in the days of the Gemara that chazal instituted the minhag of Maos Chitim, wheat money. It was collected to help pay for the wheat to bake the matzos with. There are Mishpachos that are in over their head with tzorchei Yom Tov.

Today its more than just the matzah that's expensive, the cost of making Yom tov includes wine, Meat, fish, Kosher L'pesach foods and new utensils. Those making pesach for the first time incur great expenses buying new dishes, utensils, pots, pans, appliances and more.
Pesach had become the time when many buy new clothing for shabbos and yom tov for the year. Yeshiva Bochurim restock their wardrobe during pesach bein hazmanim looking for bargains on  Suits, Shirts, shoes, ties, hats, and on and

A Lakewood bochur on his way home from Eretz Yisrael was arrested at Ben Gurion Airport by IDF military Police. Custodian Arrested for tipping Off Drug Dealer about Raid

Patch- A Lakewood Township custodian has been arrested after authorities say he tipped off a drug dealer about a coming raid, authorities said Tuesday.
The arrest of Jorge L. Lopez was announced by Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato and Lakewood Chief of Police Gregory H. Meyer. The arrest stems from a March 16 incident where Lopez observed officers assembling in a township building to execute a narcotics-related search warrant, said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the prosecutor's office.
Lopez was authorized to be in the building as a township custodian; however, he was not authorized to share what he observed, but Lopez allegedly alerted his drug supplier, who was also the target of the raid, Della Fave said.

Book: Lakewood and Lubavitch

Lakewood and Lubavitch preview by Rabbi Chaim Dalfin (Author)

After years of research, Rabbi Chaim Dalfin, author of over 50 books including Rav and Rebbe and The Real Shlomo, has published another bestseller. He looks at the two largest Torah movements in the USA, Chabad-Lubavitch and Rabbi Aaron Kotler’s following in Lakewood, and examines the relationship between them. This book opens for the first time a detailed documented presentation of facts, not fiction, While Chabad seeks to establish Chabad Houses throughout the country, Lakewood seeks to establish kollels in small communities. While the method may differ, the end mission is united: in preserving, spreading and celebrating Torah. Thus Rabbi Dalfin sees that what unites us is stronger than what divides us. He recognizes that what is needed now is ahavat chinam, not sinat chinom the purpose of showing how far the two groups have come in uniting.

Lakewood Ranked as Youngest Town in New Jersey

In a list of the 10 Youngest towns in NJ, Lakewood tops the list with a average median age of 21. According to a report in NJ.com
The youngest town in New Jersey is a bit of an anomaly. Surrounded almost entirely by towns where residents are 20 years older, Lakewood in Ocean County has a median age of about 21.
On the other hand the town of Cape May Point, tops the list of the oldest town in NJ where the median age is about 73 years old.

The Report explains Lakewood's number is "almost exclusively due to the fact that it houses one of the largest yeshivas in the world, drawing young members of the Jewish Orthodox community from around the globe."
Lakewood is followed by the one of the state's biggest college towns, New Brunswick. Except for Chesterfield in Burlington County and Prospect Park in Passaic County, all the 10 youngest towns have median ages well under 30. red more at NJ.com

Lakewood Officials confident on Funding Formula Fix for Lakewood

Lakewood officials hint they are hopeful that Gov Murphy will address the funding formula pertaining to Lakewood and other towns. At the recent Township committee meeting a resident asked about the potential shortfall of $30 million for the School district. officials said they are confident that something will be done that the BOE will get its funding from the state. The Mayor said he does not have it in writing but it appears something is in the works. The acting Department of Education commissioner, Lamont Repollet was grilled yesterday at confirmation hearings about the funding formula.

APP reports that "Lakewood school district has bet on Repollet, as a former neighbor on the Jersey Shore when he was superintendent in Asbury Park. The report says that One Lakewood board member, Thea Jackson-Byers, worked for Repollet in Asbury Park schools and Sen. Robert Singer, R-Ocean, said he’d spoken to Repollet about how to fix the funding problem."

Thank You Hashem for the Beautiful Weather on Purim

Thank You Hashem for the Beautiful weather on Purim.
It's a week before Pesach but looking back we truly see the chesed Hashem bestowed on us by having gorgeous weather on Purim day. Since then, we had 3 Nor'easters  freezing temps and snow storms. Nice weather on Purim made it easy for everyone and for families to drive around with their children delivering shalach manos and visiting friends and family. It could have been a freezing day with snow that would have put a damper on a day of Simcha. We thank Hashem everyday, but here we see it in a special way.
Submitted.

Back to Back Storms could Dump 4-6 Inches of Snow

From the NWS- The counties expected to receive the most snow from Tuesday morning to Thursday morning are Monmouth, Ocean, Mercer, Burlington, Gloucester, Camden, western Atlantic and northern Salem counties where 4 to 6 inches is projected.

A coastal storm will impact the region on Tuesday. A wintry mix is expected to overspread the area from the south Tuesday morning and could impact travel during the day. Rain and sleet mixing in with the wet snow could cut down on snowfall accumulations on Tuesday, especially in southern New Jersey and Delmarva. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible Tuesday into Tuesday night with the highest amounts likely at higher elevations closer to the Mason-Dixon line. A second, probably stronger, coastal low is expected to develop Tuesday night and impact portions of the region on Wednesday. There is a potential for significant snowfall if the storm tracks close enough to the area. The combination of heavy wet

Toms River Jewish Community Council:To Focus on Outreach and Charitable acts, not on Politics.

APP- TOMS RIVER - Michael Waldner remembers the black-and-white signs.
Nearly two years ago, they dotted the North Dover neighborhood off North Maple Avenue where former Brooklyn resident Waldner had purchased a new home for his family. "Don't Sell! Toms River Strong," the signs proclaimed. The signs urged Toms River residents not to give in to real estate agents who residents said were pressuring them to sell their homes to Orthodox Jewish families eager to move to Toms River.  "There were a lot of Toms River Strong signs," Waldner said recently. "Now there are hardly any." To Waldner, an Orthodox Jew and member of the newly formed Toms River Jewish Community Council, the paucity of signs is an indication that relations between the Orthodox and long-time Toms River residents are not quite as tense as they were back in 2016.ht not be legal

The community council, a group of 11 Orthodox men that formed last fall, hopes to do its part to improve relations and promote understanding between the growing Orthodox community and its neighbors, Waldner said.
Toms River Jewish Community Council members want to show Toms River residents that they moved to the township for the same reasons most people come here: for nice homes, large yards and a relatively peaceful suburban life.

"The influx of Orthodox Jewish families moving into Toms River, the people who move here, move here because of the beautiful quality of life," said Waldner, 38. "We wanted to live in a nice, serene, pristine, friendly community."

Yated: Rav Eliyahu Yanofsky zt”l- A Living Example of Shleimus

By Rabbi Yossi Rosenberg Yated Neeman Mar 14, 2018

YATED NE'EMAN
We live in an age of ever-increasing polarization and extremes. Groups with different opinions or ways of doing things look more and more at other groups as enemies or evil, rather than simply as people with another opinion or way of life. People involved in communal affairs or organized chesed are often looked upon as not having been successful in the world of Torah learning, while many steeped in learning seem to feel that getting too involved in the broader tzibbur will inevitably take them away from their learning.

Just as the professional and medical worlds have evolved into specialists and sub-specialties, so too, it seems, have we become a community of individual – and seemingly exclusive – specialties. Yes, we have maggidei shiur, shadchonim, counselors, mechanchim, askonim, poskim, baalei mussar, those versed in machshavah, baalei tzedakah and so much more. Everyone seems to have his particular niche, his specific area of expertise and excellence.

All of this is good, but what about an adam hasholeim, a person who could not be described by any one particular area of strength, but rather as someone who does whatever Hashem expects of him at the moment? Such a person would be almost impossible to imagine – had I not known Rav Eliyahu Yanofsky zt”l, an unassuming, yet unforgettable, personality who lived just a block away from this writer.

After Petition by Youngeleit, Township Installs 4 way Stop Sign at Intersection

The intersection of 9th Street and Lexington Avenue in Lakewood has seen many accidents prompting Kollel guys from BMG to sign a Petition asking the town to install a 4 way stop sign. An Ordnance was introduced on February, 8th this week it was finally established, hopefully bringing traffic improvements to the area.
 Petition courtesy of FAA website.

To the Township Committee Members, Lakewood Police Department, Township Manager, and Rabbi Aaron Kotler: We have seen many accidents occur at the intersection of 9th St and Lexington Ave. The township installed a four way stop sign on the corner of Monmouth Ave and 9th St which drastically reduced the number of accidents. We kindly request you do the same for the intersection of 9th St and Lexington Ave. It is one of the main routes to Bais Shalom and has heavy traffic and accidents occurring there on a weekly basis. Attached you will find petitions from Beis Shalom, 9th St. Shul and 801 Lexington Avenue.

Murphy's New Jersey's Budget Would Raise Taxes on Almost Everything

The NJ sales tax that was lowered after the new gas tax, will now be raised again according to Murphy's Budget plan.
(Bloomberg) -- New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy proposed taxing online-room booking, ride-sharing, marijuana, e-cigarettes and Internet transactions along with raising taxes on millionaires and retail sales to fund a record $37.4 billion budget that would boost spending on schools, pensions and mass transit.  The proposal, 4.2 percent higher than the current fiscal year’s, relies on a tax for the wealthiest that has yet to be approved and lacks support from key Democrats in the legislature. It also reverses pledges from Murphy’s predecessor, Republican Chris Christie, to lower taxes in a state where living costs are among the nation’s highest.

Yom Kippur Koton for Erev Rosh Chodesh Nissan

Minyanim around Lakewood for Erev Rosh Chodesh Nissan, Gedolei EY called for a yom Tefillah today. See letter below
Some have the minhag to say the tefillah of Yom Kippur Koton at Mincha on erev Rosh Chodesh Nissan even if they do not regularly say it on erev Rosh Chodesh. Because Nissan is the beginning of the year according to the opinion of R' Yehoshuah that the world was created in Nissan. When erev Rosh Chodesh Nissan comes out on Shabbos, the tefillah of Yom Kippur Koton is said on the preceding Thursday. (Halacha Yomis)

Lakewood Safety Campaign With Cards in Yiddish

Several Lakewood Township agencies and organizations met recently to design a safety campaign for the town that will feature Pedestrian Safety Cards in English, Yiddish, and Spanish, among other safety tips. Many injuries and fatalities happen because drivers and pedestrians simply don’t see each other. Each organization will distribute the Pedestrian Safety Cards as part of Lakewood’s safety campaign and concern for its citizens to remind pedestrians how to safely walk during the day and at night. Some of the Pedestrian Safety Card tips include Stop! Look both ways before you go; Cross only in the crosswalk; and Don’t walk distracted (by talking on cell phones or listening to music, for example). Pedestrians should also watch for turning vehicles; wear light colored clothing and reflective materials; and walk on the sidewalk if there is one or walk facing the traffic when there is no sidewalk.

Lakewood Organizations Issue Rebuttal of Anti Vaxxer Coalition

IN response to an anti vaccine coalition forming in Lakewood, The APP Reports 'Some of Lakewood's most influential Jewish institutions rebuffed the effort, calling it the work of a small, fringe group that ignores the advice of medical professionals who overwhelmingly support immunizations.

Among those are Beth Medrash Govoha college; the Lakewood Vaad, a council of Jewish leaders and rabbis; the Center for Health Education, Medicine and Dentistry on Route 9; and doctors Robert Shanik and Jonathan Cohen. They issued a joint statement supporting immunizations for children.

“We are strong backers of the current state regulations that require that every child in school be properly immunized," the statement reads. "The regulations are proper and should not be changed. The regulations allow appropriate exceptions for exceptional cases when a child’s immune system is compromised, such as a child undergoing chemotherapy treatment, and no other exceptions should be made.” read more HERE
