Zika Update 11/21/17 from Lakewood pediatricians DR. Shanik & DR. Haimowitz of Pediatric affiliates. A sign in the office reads: "There have been 2 cases of Zika Virus in Miami-Dade County, Florida. A woman of child bearing age and/or her husband should not travel to that area until at least the end of December. More information will be forthcoming over the next few weeks."
There is NO active transmission of Zika in Florida and no restrictions on women of child bearing age traveling to Miami Dade County. These facts can be easily ascertained by visiting the website of the CDC or the Florida Department of Health. There has only been one local transmission in Miami Dade and not two as described in his letter. There was a second transmission in the Sarasota / Manatee County area of the Gulf Coast which is nowhere near Miami Dade County.
