The unpaid tuition balances are a quiet crisis in Lakewood that isn't getting nearly as much attention as it should. Schools are collapsing under the weight of the unpaid tuition, but at the same time, the families with unpaid balances are genuinely unable to pay up. With just three days to go until boys start their school year and two weeks until girls start theirs, many families literally have no idea whether their children will be able to continue to attend school this year.
ReplyDeleteSchools had no right to charge what they did with so little rachmanus for struggling families. They didn’t ask parents before putting up huge, beautiful buildings and taking on $30 million mortgages. Then, instead of raising the necessary funds, they kept adding registration fees and other expenses on top of basic tuition, making it nearly impossible for struggling parents to keep up.
DeleteIf schools wanted to take on those kinds of expenses, they also needed to take responsibility for raising the funds to support them rather than continually passing the burden on to parents.
And to all those who screamed during the election about “free tuition”: now is the time to own up get involved, roll up your sleeves, and help raise the funds to make it happen.
Running a school is NOT a business. If school owners can't figure out how to run school with parents behind on tuition, should NEVER have opened a school , and should shut it down or give it to someone more capable to run!

The leadership and decision makers are tonedeaf and not in tune with the middle class. Its not that there's money and they are just not paying they simply don't have. The expenses are rising faster than the ability to make more money.

Nobody can honestly claim that less money was distributed to local tzedakos since the Keren Olam Hatorah started.
Additionally, I don't think it is disputable that the long-term viability of Yeshivos in Eretz Yisroel are our problem no less than Yeshivos in Lakewood. If they collapse, we are all in trouble.
I think what he means is that the $$$ or at least some of the $$$ that went to keren olam hatorah should have gone to help the local mosdos. Not that the local mosdos got less because of keren olam hatorah. The town needs to be accountable for its mosdos before helping the outside and various glamorous organizations where the donors names get splattered all over. Just like the chassdim take care of their mosdos. Parents paying upwards of 5 tuitions can't possibly pay up unless they're earning over 300k. Just like the baalabatim team up and organize funds for keren olam hatora and mosdos in e"y let them sit down and figure out how to help the local mosdos.

Actually, Rav Moshe says in Darash Moshe that everyone has equal right to shefa Hashem sends to this world. Hashem gave the Ashirim more as his shluchim to help the anyiim. If they don't give their fair share, they are being gozel the anyiim.

It's not a matter of who's getting the money there's enough money to go around for everybody the question is the focus, the perspective, how much attention we we give to the organizations in ey and if that takes away from our attention of the organizations here in town which after all said and done come first. Thats easy. The perpetpators of ponzi schemes are a miniscule portion of the population. They are doing things which are obviously wrong. Most people wont learn from them. The topics which you mentioned are things relevant to the general public, which many think are okay to do and others may learn from them to do it as well. So instead of wasting their words on ponzi schemes they address issues where they feel they can effect change.
