Those who get chizuk from Rav Shayala's yartzeit, fine. But it should be remembered that it had no significance in Rav Aharon's vision of Lakewood.
ReplyDeleteYour comment also has no significance
DeleteIts indeed significant to remind people that Rav Aharon would not want this. If you want to reply with substance, please do.
DeleteAll the selekzia in the moisdos he did want????
DeleteThere was only one mosssd in his time.
DeleteEveryone was together, beAchdus, everyone got along. Boys and girls together.
Even Rav Shneur sent his children there.
I didn't say it was the only thing he didn't want. But he was very clear and outspoken that he didn't want a Chassidic influence .
DeleteDifferent generation with different challenges. If people need chizzuk from a yartzeit that should be the biggest problem we’re all facing. I think R Aaron would be happy to see the amount of Torah in this town.
DeleteHatzlocha
Thank you. Much better. ;) At the same time, we would have said "If a person has inspiration from wearing a shtreimel, that should be our biggest problem"! but Rav Aharon didn't allow it. He wasn't "anti Chassidim" but he wanted Lakewood to be an exclusively Litvish Yeshivah.
DeleteAnd now there’s chasidim learning in Lakewood yeshiva so things have changed. Nu Nu. More Torah being learned now than before and I stand by what I say.
DeleteA yartzeit seuda shouldn’t be our biggest problem. More Torah and Mitzvos and let people live. There’s no issur to make a seuda like this.
I don't really disagree with you. i'm not looking to marginalize the Chassidim. My real issue with all the big "Rav Aharon did this" and think nothing can change.
DeleteAh so maybe I misunderstood you were on the same page I think
DeleteBe careful when googling smash burger there's treif stores with a similar name called smash burger
ReplyDeleteWhat kinda steaks are they serving at the cemetery
ReplyDeleteGravy
DeleteThe article about the schools was not realistic and focused on the chasdisihe schools.
ReplyDeleteNo parent will control or have a say in a school e enjoy they strat it and send their children there.
The bosses and owners run the show
Same with the litvish schools
DeletePeople who were brought up as chassidim or misnagdim would all have a mahalach of Yiddishkeit that is the background to their avoda and minhagim
ReplyDeleteNone of us have a background for the fressfest called 'Reb Shayala' that borrowed the name of a great baal chessed and tarnished it forever.
Why has nobody publicly announced what a travesty this is? Why are our children growing up normalizing this bi-yearly monument to people's base desires? How has this become acceptable? Chassidim understand the idea of a lechayim that opens people's hearts to appreciate the lesson of the tzadik, and a little mezonos to allow the lechayim to go down.
But there is no Jewish basis for this fress business, it is a goyishe idea that has sneaked into our world through the back door
Relax, take your meds. Go to sleep early you might feel better in the morning.
Delete@5:20 take your meds. Go to sleep early
DeleteProjecting?
He's got a point. Feel free to respectfully disagree. Respectfully
The only solution to this is for us to teach our children how terrible this is.
DeleteDon't be afraid of telling them that what they see is wrong.
I would never go to a Rav Shaya M’Keresteir Yartzeit seuda and even for some reason I had to be there I would not think that I’m getting any zchoyos or doing anything for his neshomah by being there BUT I don’t oppose them. There are people who feel more comfortable in the type of Yiddishkeit that promotes these type of things, it is at least in theory mechazak their own value for cheshed and hacnasas orchim so I’m not going to knock it. No, Rav Ahron would not have approved of it but that is very far from the only thing that goes on Lakewood these days that he would not have approved of. Even among those who believe they are going on his derech. A Rav Shaya M’Keresteir Yartzeit seuda certainly isn’t any worse than being on hefkervelt. You’ll probably find a lot less people who are angry at the world there than here. V'dai L'maven
Delete3:36 AM It is very bad chinuch to tell your children that things other groups do that you don't agree with are "terrible" . I have a sibling who went OTD in large part because my parents were always criticizing other frum groups.
DeleteFunny.
DeleteR Yerachmiel Milstein claims ironically people who are nice without strong attitudes on any topic have the highest percentage of kids going OTD
Even assuming R' Milstein claims that and even assuming it is true there is a major difference between having strong personal opinions and being a self righteous jerk who frequently has strong words of condemnation for others. One of the things that I've noticed about the latter crowd is that almost every single one of those people I know who had a child that went OTD R'L moderated his haskafa and attitudes towards others afterwards. Some even ended up doing a 180 degree shift. I can only think of one person I know who moved even further right after two of his children went OTD. But he was never a remotely tolerant person to begin with.
DeleteIt's not 'another form of Yiddishkeit'.
DeleteI don't tell them Chassidim are wrong, I don't bash Chabad, Sefardim, or Mizrachim.
But when distortions creep in, invented by caterers, singers, or newspaper salesmen, it is not the same.
Your (Anon 8:04) sibling may claim that being the reason for going OTD, but he is the smallest authority on the topic. Literally everyone else can see things about his life clearer than he can.
However, the main point is that there are many different derachim in Yiddishkeit. We should and do respect all of them. But none of them include fressfests. Not one. So we have no problem with Lubavitchers when they focus on kiruv, although we don't. We have no problem with those who don't learn our derech, although we believe in our way. But we do have a problem when someone claims that eating in 'honor' of a tzadik is the same as doing hisbodedus. It is a zilzul of Yiddishkeit, and a zilzul of chassidus.
Rav Yosef Breuer’s yahrzeit is also tomorrow. Rumor has it that the Yekkish Shul here will nonetheless be saying tachanun.
ReplyDelete
DeleteThere's a beautiful vort from Rav Breuer which I haven't seen anywhere else. Brachos 12a says the mishmar of Kohanim leaving say to the ones coming...
Mi She'shachan shemo babayis zeh, yashkin bey'neychem
Ahava, Achva, Shalom Virei'us"
We bless the Choson and Kallah with the same words used for Kohanim in the Bais Hamikdosh.
A Jewish home being a Mikdash is a literal truth . Not poetry!
Yehi Zichro Baruch!
@6:15 why are you so angry at those who have other opinions
ReplyDeleteWhere do you see any anger in my post?
DeleteYou called others angry ppl
DeleteThat is projection 101
By that logic every whiner on hefkervelt is guilty of whatever he is whining about and criticizing. Little as I think of those people, they aren't that low
DeleteYour mockery of others is despicable. You push a narrative that anyone who speaks up isn’t worthy of being heard dismissing their pain while they’re already hurting. it’s cruelty.
DeleteYou show no rachmanus, only achzariyus, where there should be basic human decency. Take a hard look in the mirror at the gaavah and nastiness driving this. It’s not insight it’s a bloated ego or worse denial of reality.
I'm in 100% agreement that most of the of people who feel the need to speak up against a R' Shaya M'Kerester Yartzeit sueda taking place somewhere in Lakewood are in pain. But the R' Shaya M'Kerester Yartzeit sueda is NOT the cause of it. I'm also in agreement that I should be more accepting of those people. I hope and try that to one day do so. But as Chazal say about the judgment of Hashem himself. It is is a lot easier to be accepting of the faults of those who are humble and minding their own business than it is of those who frequently self righteously talk against others.
