Parsha of Shidduchim

This week's Parsha discusses the shidduch between Yitzchok and Rivka  as Avrohom sent Eliezer his servant to find a girl for his son. There was no shidduch crisis than it was all with Emunah. Eliezer is the first known shadchan in the Torah. Many important lessons in Shidduchim are derived from this parsha. Rav Elya Boruch Finkel ZT"l the Mir Rosh Yeshiva would give his yearly hashkafa shmooze on shidduchim friday night Shabbos Chaya Sara. Yated article reported He would speak for four hours and always begin with the Rabbeinu Bechaya that says that the Torah details every part of Yitzchok Avinu’s shidduch because “ma’aseh avos siman labonim.“ He would add that the reason why the Torah elaborates on Yitzchok’s shidduch and not Avrohom’s or Yaakov’s is because Yitzchok had his father take an active role in making his shidduch.

- Lakewood Vaad member doubles down with a follow up post on LinkedIn after he received backlash for the first post how Lakewood traffic is good. He. Blames the state for the traffic and calls those upset about traffic complainers

See post text below:
I wasn’t expecting that! A few days ago, I wrote a lighthearted post about looking at the bright side of situations. I used the Lakewood traffic as an example.
Sure, traffic can be frustrating, but I pointed out that it’s also a sign of a growing and thriving community. It was like I opened a can of worms.
Honestly, I can write an entire post about how the State promised multiple times to widen Rt. 9 and make it a full double lane, or how efforts are being made to push the County to widen other roads. But that’s not the point.

The post wasn’t about traffic, it was about perspective. Life always gives us two choices: to focus on the challenges or to find something positive in the situation.

It reminds me of a story from my childhood.
There was a member of our shul who always seemed to find something to critique—whether it was the chazzan’s pace, the length of the drasha, or even the room temperature. One day, frustrated, I asked my father why this person never seemed to have anything positive to say. His wise answer?
This man's father was the same way! My message to you- smile!
Look for the good, even when it’s hard to find. Life’s too short to spend complaining. And if you can’t do it for yourself- do it for your kids.🙂
Are there aspects of everyday life you’ve learned to appreciate in new ways?

Some responded via comments on the post:

"Why are you blaming the state when the zoning board you control is approving a project 4-story office building at 685 River Avenue that will preclude the state from widening Route 9?"

"I’m sorry to contradict you on this, but you did not write “a lighthearted post about looking at the bright side of situations, using Lakewood traffic as an example.” You wrote a post specifically about the Lakewood traffic and how it was a good thing. Of course it’s important to look on the bright side of things. But you are talking about an unmitigated disaster that is only getting worse with every passing day, and it didn’t have to be like this. People are suffering, watching countless millions of their dollars in lost productivity going up in smoke. When someone’s house is burning and his values possessions are going up in smoke, we don’t lightheartedly tell him to look on the bright side. Especially if more could have been done to save his house."

- Lebanon ceasefire negotiation: Lebanese sources to Sky News in Arabic: American envoy Hochstein is still in Beirut and is expected to stay until tomorrow before arriving in Israel. There is an apparent seriousness about reaching a ceasefire agreement. The Lebanese concern remains about the Israeli position. Hochstein's team continues to hold technical meetings with the Lebanese side

- American envoy Amos Hochstein said at a press conference, "We have a real opportunity to end the conflict, and now is the moment to decide. We are committed to doing everything we can to work with Lebanon and Israel to end this conflict."

- At least five people were wounded after rockets fired by Hezbollah hit central and northern Israel on Tuesday morning, as the United State’s special envoy arrived in Lebanon to make a final push for a ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese terror group. Hezbollah launched rockets at central Israel for the second time in less than a day, setting off sirens in Herzliya, Kfar Saba, Ra’anana, Hadera, Netanya, and numerous other towns north of Tel Aviv shortly before 9 am.

- The IDF was surprised by the amount, scope, and quality of the Russian weapons seized from Hezbollah strongholds in southern Lebanon. About 60-70% of all the weapons and means of warfare seized by the IDF in the first days of the fighting in south Lebanon were made in Russia - some of them old, from the days of the Soviet Union, and some of them are very modern and were produced in 2020

- Hezbollah confirms in an announcement IDF forces are in the south of the village of Biacha The village of Albiacha is located on high ground overlooking the coastal axis and can be an important springboard if the IDF decides to continue north towards Tyre and expand the ground operation.

- Ramat Gan Missie update: What happened was that the Israeli interceptor struck the ballistic missile, but for reasons that are now being probed, did not cause it to explode as designed. Rather, a small part of the missile exploded, but a larger part was simply cut off from the rest, leading it to drop relatively straight down at high speed from the 12 kilometer shoot-down point.
The fact that so much of the missile remained whole was part of why the damage was much larger than usual, and larger than it would have been if what had fallen out of the sky had “just” been smaller pieces of shrapnel.

A respomse on LinkedIn  to the Lakewood vaad member who posted about Lakewood traffic:
"I’m sorry, but I never heard of something so ridiculous in my life. Do you think that the people wasting literally hours of their lives each week are happy about the extremely poor developmental design of Lakewood, for which you surely have had some degree of influence from your position? I’m wondering how many people would agree with your sentiment were you to actually take a poll of Lakewood residents and drivers. Your statement reeks of complete disconnect at best, and of elite condescension at worst. Just remember that an election was just won by a landslide over those who tried to gaslight the masses into believing that everything bad for them was good and vice versa. People are smarter than you think."

Lakewood vaad member post on LinkedIn continues to draw harsh criticism on social media for comparing Lakewood to Manhattan saying traffic is a good sign of a vibrant town. A local store owner  wrote how  lakewood traffic has destroyed his local business  and other local  businessesOnly in lakewood will you find multiples od the same store within a mile or two of each other because their customers will not come to them if they need to sit and hour in traffic. The vaad member is lucky that nobody has opened a competition to his business in another part of town.

The original post on LinkedIn why Traffic in Lakewood is a good sign.  The article started with "I love the Lakewood traffic!"
I know that’s not what you were expecting to hear, but let me explain why.
I believe the traffic is actually a symbol of a healthy community and economy.
When so many people are going about their day, there’s more opportunity to connect, do business, and grow. Yes, it might be hard to get around, but it’s a sign of something great!
Think of Manhatten.It’s always congested.
But you know what?
👉That’s where all the business happens.
Yes, if you go out to the boondocks, you may have a much quieter, peaceful existence, but the business opportunities are just not the same.
And it’s not only better for the business owners, it benefits the consumer as well.
More businesses = More competition = Better Prices. So, next time you find yourself stuck in traffic, and feel like complaining, remember this. It’s just a sign of a robust vibrant community. And that’s a good thing!
Do you agree?

- A Lakewood vaad member writes a post on LinkedIn why Traffic in Lakewood is a good sign.
