- News reports of illegals getting dropped off at a motel in Toms River on Rt 37 as busses were seen at the motel. Toms River Police issued a statement saying that the bus drivers stayed the night there but did not drop off the migrants. On a local Facebook group there seems to be conflicting reports confirming that migrants are staying there.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended Wednesday that people 65 and older get a second dose of the coronavirus vaccine made available last fall because they are at higher risk for severe disease from the virus.

Every morning there are buses riding around  mostly empty as they do the shachris route for mesivta boys in Lakewood. Getting up early is always a struggle but the routes that are scheduled are making money for the companies while not fulfilling the purpose which is transporting the boys to school. 

Theres no point to expect the bochurim to wake up at 6:30 am when it is not more than a 15 minute drive and sahchris does not start before 7:45 or 8 am. 

Bus companies for some reason can't arrange buses at a more practical time.

The result is either parents have to drive the boys or the bochurim end up hitching or missing shachris in yeshiva. 

Just to have a route picked up that lines the pockets of others while not  having realistic routes is unacceptable.

Due to the inadequate routes, Schools have to either arrange their own vans, parents have to carpool and bochurim are hitching every morning.

The solution  would be to have  either school buses combine yeshivos and do a few pick ups in specific neighborhoods and drop off at the yeshivos that are next to each other or to have a public bus system utilizing, the Lakewood shuttle (that rides around empty) and drive up and down the main arteries  like rt 9, E county line, central ave, Pine/James during the morning and evening so boys can hop on the bus knowing that there's a system to rely on .

 Why should in town mesivta bochurim have to worry everyday  about getting to and from Yeshiva.

- Over 100 Palestinians were killed in a stampede in northern Gaza following an ambush and looting of humanitarian aid trucks, with the IDF responding to the situation. Gazans were reportedly trampled and crushed after they looted humanitarian aid trucks entering the northern Gaza Strip. 

IDF  said Israeli gunfire caused some 10 casualties out of the hundreds of people allegedly hurt and killed during this morning’s crowd crush in the northern Gaza Strip, according to an initial IDF probe.

Following a stampede as Palestinians tried to rush aid trucks, which reportedly caused dozens of casualties, a small group of Palestinians began to move toward IDF troops stationed in the area.

The soldiers fired warning shots in the air and shot at the legs of those getting closer to the forces.

- Tonight The Lakewood Republican Club endorsed Deputy Mayor Menashe Miller and Moshe Raitzik as the party-line candidates for the upcoming June primary. The  Club’s president, Craig Theibault, resigned  after moving out of Lakewood to Wall twsp.

- A $1 Billion Donation Will Provide Free Tuition to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, in the Bronx by Dr. Ruth Gottesman, a longtime professor at the  College this donation is making free tuition available to all students going forward. Her late husband was an investor with Warren Buffet and left her a will to do something with the money.

-  Jackson, 4,893 students who currently attend non-public schools would qualify for transportation through the Lakewood Student Transportation Authority, according to Jackson School District spokeswoman Allison Erwin. Some of Jackson's private school students do not qualify, because they live within two miles of their elementary and middle schools or 2.5 miles from their high school.(App)

- Bagatz The High Court of Justice orders the government to explain why it should not annul a government resolution passed in June 2023 which instructed the IDF not to draft ultra-Orthodox yeshiva students for nine months, and, by extension, why it should not begin drafting such men.

- The High Court al issues an interim order determining that a provision of the law for military service which provides those individual with service exemptions if they are not drafted within two years of turning 18 shall not apply to yeshiva students who have not been drafted because of the government’s resolution, a further indication that the court believes the petitions to have merit.(TOI)

-  Intelligence noted the night before Hamas's October 7 invasion that hundreds of Hamas members were switching on Israeli SIM cards, the censor finally cleared for publication on Monday, more than four months later.

The fact that so many Hamas members were switching to Israeli SIM cards could have been strong evidence of a potential invasion. Senior IDF officials were notified about it at the time but brushed it off. 

- The prospect of an Israeli-Saudi normalization deal remains a possibility as diplomats move to leverage the deal amid ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas. (Atlantic)

Lang Case Update

 The NJ Dept of Education comprehensive review of the Lakewood school district in response to the lawsuit filed by R' Aaron Lang will be released no later than March 1,2024. The crux of the lawsuit is that the funding formula does not work for Lakewood and hopefully this review will show that the school district does not have the funding to provide a thorough and efficient education.

- Mesivta farhers update:

There was a line going around "no nesivtas can give farhers until all boys have a mesivta". A sad reality of what went on this year despite initially everyone signing on not to start farhers before Tuesday, nevertheless alot of mesivtos jumped the gun and started accepting bochurim even before the farhers. This caused other yeshivos to start giving farhers on Sunday since they lost out of having a chance to meet and farher the boys.

As of today despite what some are saying as the easiest and best year ever for the acceptance process, there's are still many boys who were not accepted and are waiting around to get placed.

The Shulchan Aruch (OC 697:1) writes that we do not recite tachanun or  למנצח  on Purim Katan, nor are we permitted to fast or deliver a hesped. The Rema adds that some maintain that one must eat a special meal and be joyful on Purim Katan. This is the opinion of the Rif (cited by the Tur 697). Tosfos (Megila 6b) quotes this position as well but argues that it is not correct. Similarly, the Rema quotes the opinion of the Rif that one should eat a special seuda on Purim Katan, but the Rama concludes that this is not the accepted minhag. Still, in deference to those who are strict, the Rema writes that it is proper to add something extra to the meal in honor of Purim Katan. In the final statement of the Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim, the Rema concludes this discussion about Purim Katan by citing the verse in Mishlei (15:15) “v’tov lev mishteh tamid” (“And one who has a good heart will feast continuously”). What does the Rema mean to convey with this pasuk? Many suggestions have been proposed, and the Mishnah Berurah (sif katan 5) offers a brief comment as well. Perhaps the Mishnah Berurah understands that a “tov lev” is a person who recognizes G-d’s miraculous supervision and intervention in the world. Such a person invites guests and shares with them his acknowledgement of the Divine providence. Turns out not all the mesivtos abided by the takanos not to give farhers earlier than the agreed upon date. A few yeshivos gave fathers and acceptance from Sunday.

Parents were forced to give immediate answers without having a chance to check out and try another mesivta

Due to on the spot acceptance many  scheduled farhers are getting canceled

Not everyone got an immediate acceptance and there are boys and parents waiting for answers

- Mesivta Farher day 1 while some boys got instant acceptance there are many boys who were not told anything and are left in limbo.

- Super Tuesday today as hundreds of 8th grade boys will be taking farhers to get into 67 mesivtas in Lakewood. The farhers are started this morning 9am through and will run for 3 days Parents will have little time to give an answer once accepted. Some will demand an answer on the spot others will only give a few hours. There's no shortage of space between all the mesivtas.

The oral arguments on the defense's motion to dismiss Rabbi Eisenman's case entirely have been rescheduled for March 6th due to a conflict in schedule.  On January 25th, the prosecution submitted its written response to the defense's motion. In an attempt to defend themselves from the intentional Brady violation of withholding the identity of the person who made the entry alleged to be a loan write-down, the prosecution invented a brand new and bizarre prosecutorial theory. The prosecution is now claiming that it had never been relevant whether Rabbi Eisenman made or directed the entry in question. Indeed, there is no evidence to this effect. Rather, the transfer of money to the school itself was the setup to trigger a loan write-down, as it would be self-understood by the bookkeeping department to credit this particular transaction to this alleged loan account.  Lakewood Toms River can get snow Friday night 2-3 Inches - NWS: Winter weather advisories have been issued for eight New Jersey counties ahead of a storm system that’s expected to bring up to 4 inches of snow to parts of the state overnight Friday into early Saturday. The advisories will be active from 10 p.m. Friday through 10 a.m. Saturday in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean and Salem counties, with the National Weather Service calling for light to moderate snow accumulations across the region and the potential for slippery driving conditions. The higher snowfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are expected in the southern half of the state, with 1 to 2 inches or only a lighter coating in northern counties this weekend.
