Ki Keil Melech - Eitan Katz

Ki Keil Melech - Eitan Katz | כי א-ל מלך - איתן כ״ץ
This Nigun was composed while visiting my dear friend Moti Kest ז״ל. Moti was a pillar of Chesed to his community, a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather to his beloved family, and a friend like no other to those who were zoche to know him. I'll never forget how, even in his sick and weak state, he picked up the bongo and started playing along as we sang this Nigun. May this Nigun bring comfort and happiness to those in need.

The Difference Between טעם עליון טעם תחתון and why we Stand During עשרת הדברות

The Shulchan Aruch (Orach Chaim 494) rules that on Shavuos we read the section in the Torah that contains the Aseres Hadibros in Parashas Yisro. The Be’ur Halacha  notes the two different sets of Te’amim (cantillation notes) that exist for the Aseres Hadibros טעם עליון and  טעם תחתון. Most shuls read the Taam Elyon for Yisro and Vaeschanan. If we open to the text of the the עשרת הדברות in Parashas Yisro or Parashas ואתחנן in most printed Chumashim, we will find the version called “Ta’am Tachton.” The second version, which is called “Ta’am Elyon,” is generally printed in the back of the Chumash or after the Parasha.

What is the difference between these two versions?

One who looks at the text of the Aseres Hadibros in a sefer Torah will notice that the Torah assigns a separate paragraph for each commandment. Even the very short commandments, such as “Lo Tirzach” and “Lo Tinaf,” comprise an independent paragraph, as do the longer commandments, such

One Kosel Campaign It’s more than a wall.

 AM ECHAD One Kotel Campaign
It’s more than a wall.

Whether you refer to it as the Kosel or the Kotel, there is no denying our deeply-rooted ties to this holy site. For 2,000 years, this wondrous space has been the physical embodiment of our nation’s endurance through the darkest of times.
Our sages teach us that even after the destruction of the Beit Hamikdash, Hashem’s presence has never left the Kotel. Each of us have felt it. And every visitor, no matter their religious affiliation, respected it.
But today, this status quo is being threatened by those who don’t share our values. With the supposed claim that Jews in the Diaspora wish to see this tragic change, it is incumbent upon us to set the record straight. The Am Echad petition is our united voice to protect our most prized asset.

Township Votes For Raises, Public Criticizes

Watch replay of the meeting Here 6:00 minute mark

The township committee voted unanimously  to approve the pay raises to themselves, family members and the MUA board who just raised water rates by 15%.

Outraged residents sent in emails to the online meeting to be read by the public comments critical and opposing the pay raises. There was no public support. The Mayor showed off his speed reading skills by quickly reading the emails and comments sent in. Normally at the meetings each person is given 5 minutes for public comment, here their voices were disrespected and you could barely hear what they wrote.

Residents asked why do these commissioners who don't work too hard deserve a 10k annual raise, why don't planning and zoning board members get compensated if they work more than the mua board members. Others pointed out to the increase of water rates and that MUA commissioners in surrounding towns make 2-3k a year in compensation.

The mayor did not respond to any of the complaints, only saying that the 5k for MUA members has been set at the same rate for the last 15 years and this ordinance is raising it by 10k a year.

Adding insult to injury, the mayor who is on the MUA board that raised the water rates by 15% said that for those who have a hard time paying their bills there are federal and state programs  they can take advantage of.
