Erev Pesach on Shabbos Guide
This year, the first day of Pesach falls on Sunday, which means that Erev Pesach falls on Shabbos. This changes many Pesach observances. Below is a simplified guide to the practices of Erev Pesach that falls on Shabbos.

Thursday

Since Erev Pesach is Shabbos, the fast of Taanis Bechoros is pushed earlier, to Thursday. A bechor or the father of a minor bechor is obligated to fast on Thursday, but he can discharge his obligation by making or attending a siyum. If attending a siyum is not a viable option because of COVID safety concerns, please consult with your LOR (=local Orthodox rabbi) as to whether you can attend a siyum online.

APP: Fires reporter Explains how Offensive Caption Slipped Through

From the editor: How an offensive caption ended up online and the new checks we put in place

Paul D'Ambrosio, Editor  Asbury Park Press, published at 9:03 am

APP- The call came shortly after 7:30 p.m. Sunday. A photo with an obscene and offensive caption had been published on APP.com, appearing in a photo gallery that accompanied a story about a Lakewood health center administering COVID-19 vaccines. I was shocked and disgusted when I learned it was true. We immediately issued an apology, but I also want to be transparent with you about what happened and what actions we’ve taken since to ensure it does not happen again. I won’t repeat the caption here, but the words were offensive to women, the Jewish community and Lakewood, and included a slang term that was simultaneously offensive to Jews and Asian Americans. I thought someone had hacked our content management system. In reality, it was a reporter who admitted that he did a “stupid, stupid thing.” This was an inexcusable act. The objectification of women and religious insults are intentional actions.

The reporter in question is no longer with the company.

JHS: The History of The Kiruv Movement Part I

The Kiruv movement, or the Baal Teshuva movement, or the movement of Jewish Outreach, is a curious postwar historical phenomenon. In the counter culture environment of the 1960's, many youth began searching for their Jewish identity and roots, and pioneers and eventually institutions began to fill the role of providing them.

Lakewood School District Reacts to Ruling in Lawauit by R' Lang

The lakewood BOE acknowledged the Lawsuit brought by R Aaron Lang  at their board meeting on Wednesday. District officials and the board attorney ripped into the judges response calling it FOR SHAME and out of touch with the facts. They encouraged Reb Aaron Lang to keep on fighting to change the funding formula for Lakewood. Officials pointed out inaccuracies in the ruling by judge Scarola such as the recommendation that lakewood spend less on busing, even though the town has not spent a dollar for courtesy busing since 5 years ago. The judge also said that the town should raise taxes more than 2%. District officials said it would have to be a 60% increase which means people would see their annual taxes go up by 2000 to 3000 dollars. The Judge also said that the district place special needs children within in district schools and not spend more by sending them out of district schools. The officials said that even if they did that the parents have the right to object and can keep their child in the current school it would end up in expensive litigation. Through the meeting the judges ruling was called out for shame for shame

Lakewood Yeshivos strong Statement against Recreational Marijuana

Kol Kore signed by Lakewood Roshei Mesivta, Roshei Yeshiva Rabbonim in a strongly worded statement following the law in NJ to legalize the recreational use of Marijuana. The letter makes no mention of Medical use. " one who engages in this kind of recreational activity should not be considered a member of our community" Any talmid that engages in the recreational use has no place in the community or in any yeshiva

Translation

Recently, the government of the State of New Jersey legalized the recreational use of marijuana. There is no need to go into great lengths to describe the emotional. psychological, and spiritual destruction that is caused by any kind of drug use including marijuana. This leaves no room for any Jew to engage in recreational drug use of any kind, and one who engages in this kind of recreational activity should not be considered a member of our community

To our great sorrow there are unscrupulous individuals in our community who engage in the business of selling marijuana and marijuana related items for the purpose of profit making, and they have already ensnared precious souls in their terrible net. Now that this type of drug has been legalized it will be easier for them to push their wares more publicly and aggressively.

Therefore, we are coming to give warning to all the residents of our town, "Remove yourselves from the tents of these evil individuals, and you will not be destroyed through their evil deeds".

We also turn to the Rabbonim of our town with a plea. Please explain to the community at large the great danger that is hovering over our community, so that this terrible scourge should not chas veshalom spread in our community. We ask as well, that the Rabbonim reach out to all those that dedicate themselves to the tzibbur and plead with them to do all that is in their power to uproot the unscrupulous sellers of marijuana and marijuana related items from our community, so that they should not be able to continue in their crooked ways.

It is self-evident that allowing this culture to pervade our ihr hatorah will put the entire fabric of Lakewood into great jeopardy. Therefore, we hereby serve notice that any student of our Yeshivos who will engage in the recreational use of marijuana in any form at any time even in the slightest way, is considered a poretz Gidrei olam, has no place in our community nor in our veshivos, and will suffer severe consequences as is appropriate to a terrible breach such as this one.

Murphy: NJ Nursing Homes Should Pay the Price For COVID Approach

(Patch)Gov. Phil Murphy on Sunday defended New Jersey's approach to dealing with nursing homes 8000 deaths amid the COVID crisis, saying long-term care facilities should "pay the price" if they didn't follow the guidelines for preventing the disease's spread. See video below.

Murphy, appearing on CBS's "Face The Nation," acknowledged New Jersey ordered long-term care facilities to admit people who tested positive for COVID. But Murphy said state health officials, in turn, ordered patients to be separated on their own floor, "their own wing, their own building, and staff as well" Murphy said the instructions were "explicit, black-and-white." Some nursing home staffers, however, were walking in and out of the facilities even though they were COVID-positive but asymptomatic, he said.
